Hearth & Home Signature Virginia Spice

Hearth & Home Signature Virginia Spice is ideal for the pipe smoker who really enjoys the clean, sweet spiciness of a mixture of matured Virginias, but who wants something a little different. The difference comes from the use of cool-smoking Perique for a bit of plum and pepper and the addition of maduro cigar leaf to add creaminess and body. If you shy away from Virginia/Perique blends because the smoke is too thin, Virginia Spice is sure to please.

purchased a pound of this.
purchased a pound of this. pretty tasty. wasn't cut up enough before blending but is a decent smoke. cigar leaf in it makes it taste a little dry on the palate but I will enjoy this for awhile. Probably will age real well.

I have discovered with this
I have discovered with this tobacco the moisture content and how tight you pack it is very influential on how it tastes. If damp, pack looser, if dry a little tighter. Flavor when optimum conditions are met is very good if you are a Virginia / Perique lover.

Cellar this stuff now 😁
Funny thing is I do not like cigars but I can definitely taste the smoothness from the Maduro leaf in this blend and it enhances the end of every draw Just enough sweetness and little spices especially on the retrohale this blend is like the drug to me every bowl I have makes me think I need to order another 4 oz of it ha highly recommend

A Different Kind of Review
I purchase this selection for flavor extraction (cold maceration) to be used in home made e-liquids. This selection is a little different than most. The Virginia and Perique are joined well by the Maduro leaf flavor. The VaPer is not as strong as Louisiana Red, it is more reminiscent of H&H's Anniversary Kake. Neither of the tobacco flavors stand out but rather are blended together quite well to provide a rich, well balanced and smooth vape. I have shared this flavor with several others vapers and it is always well received. H&H Virginia Spice is an annual purchase for me, as it is one of my favorite tobacco flavors.

Va Spice
DNA cousin to Anni/Marble Kake that checks off a lot of boxes. Pack n go ribbon format. Cigar leaf adds a bit of mystery. I should load up the boat here.

Virginia Spice
Nice smoke. It does have a slight spicey taste with medium strength. Bottom line, I like it.

Nice occasional treat - prefer other Virginias
[Tin/Bag - Repulsive smell out of the bag and into Mason Jar yesterday. I am sure it will be different once lit, but it was definitely revolting. Today not as bad or my nose or palette has just not tuned up. More of a sourness with little cough surypiness (brown kind, no sugary flavors). Think it was the cough syrup heavy smell yesterday, not a nice syrup, more like the kind that gag you badly. Moisture just right to load up a bowl.] Some spiciness right away on char light, then just a hint some grassy virginia after hale. Next after good light, orange, then little spice. On and off, orange, spice, and not much virginia grass. Some citrus tang here and there, like Sunny Delight on and off. I liked Anniversary Kake much better yesterday than this, but it is an interesting blend with that orange hit. I haven't had that in another tobacco. Little cream and citrus tang about half way. Not getting lots of flavor overall. Do seem to be catching some of the cigar leaf in there along the way in the retrohale. Burns well, and not bitey at a light pace. (2 months) Little tang and some spice, little woody cigar leaf. None of the orange as before. A little toastiness. Some sweetness, creaminess too. Catching more of the cigar on small sips with retrohale. Slight orange did come back. More of the maduro leaf detection with progression, not much of the spice, no pepper at all except on very slow retro. Some good pepper later in the retro along with lots of maduro after let it set out 6 minutes, a palate cleans with Glenmorangie, and a relight. Yeah, intentionally let it burn out for a relight, hoping to get more of the fresh light on the maduro and perique in the retro, and it seems to kick in on a relight. Tad of that before mentioned orange just once. More of the maduro through the end. It's a good blend and I'll keep a little around to compare once in a while to remind me that I like other blends much more. However it is an enjoyable solo treat.

A Fine VA blend, indeed.
I fell in love with Russ' blends years ago but I'm still exploring his work and this is one of my favorites. After sampling Virginia Spice in the small tin I immediately ordered the large. Now, I'm getting it bulk. Smoking some as I type this, actually. This is a fairly full flavor, medium body smoke for me. I have smoked it in about all my pipes and have not gotten the slightest nip of tongue bite, which some experience often with VA blends. I love the balance created by the addition of cigar leaf and perique, both of which I enjoy and am happy with the amounts used. I want to taste complexity sometimes in my pipe tobacco and this one is perfectly melded to have an individual "personality", so to speak, while speaking to the individual components simultaneously. I smoke VA, Vaper and VPB blends almost exclusively, have for years, and this is easily in my top 10...if not top 5. Highly recommended.

A Decent Smoke
This is one that I will probably keep an ounce of in stock. It makes for a good change of pace from my usual English blend rotation, but is a bit generic tasting. The Virginias fade and let the other components take over at the halfway point. Yet they cigar leaf doesn't have the signature of any particular national origin or varietal. It is just an earthy taste that seems to be chosen not to offend anyone not use to smoking cigars more than bringing in cigar fans. A decent blend, but not one I would go out of my way to stockpile.

Nice combination
The cigar leaf added to this is a nice combination with the virginia and the Perique. Sweet and spicy and bold.

My new favorite.
Smooth, creamy, & spicy. I got sweetness from the Virginia, a little raisin from the Perique & just a tad of cigar at times. I could smoke this all day!

Mildly Enjoyable
Smooth, creamy smoke. Pairs perfectly with black coffee or a stout beer. Has a smidgen of bite, but that could possibly the shoddy pipe I used. I suggest this. It's a tasty smoke.

exactly as advertised
The bag note when I first opened this baccy up was an acidic/citrus flavor, I didn't know what to think. First impression with the char light was "wow, that's a little intense on the perique" but I was wrong. On the relight I got smooth and creamy Virginia flavor with a nutty/cigar room note that left everywhere I went smelling faintly of toasted peanut butter. The end of the bowl starts to get a little spicy, kind of like a good meal with some spice that builds the more you eat. Definitely a sipping smoke, it gets hot if you get too hungry with your puffs, which is tempting because it's a tasty smoke.

Where have you been all my life ????
Virginia Spice, where have you been all my life? I thought for quite a while I'd not find another non-aromatic that I'd enjoy as I do MM American Patriot, but Virginia Spice is quickly becoming my #2 favorite Non-aro, maybe tied for first, maybe even edging ahead... I'm not much for describing flavor profile, I just know I like spice, cinnamon, and real tobacco flavor, and this has it all! thanks H&H.

Customer Testimonials
I've been fan of Russ's work for years but only recently got around to trying Virginia Spice. I'm a little surprised at the other reviews for this blend. For me, as a long-time VaPer AND cigar smoker, this stuff really hits my sweet spot. While I find it to be pretty mellow in strength, and I normally gravitate to the stronger stuff, I feel Russ blended this to perfection in flavor and overall balance. The best qualities of all three tobaccos compliment each other very well and it smokes cool and delicious right to the dottle. As far as any type of tongue bite I get none at all, even when smoking it hard and I've smoked it in a variety of pipes. Right now I've got 8 oz on back order and cannot wait for it to come in. This is absolutely my new favorite everyday/all day smoke.

This mix is nice. Albeit a bit light for my taste right now. I think I'll cellar it for a month or so, and see if it picks up a bit. It burns quite hot, even if you sip at it. Out of the bag, it has the taste of the virginias but little perique. I'll try it again around Christmas or New Year and report back.

I love Russ' blends and I thought I'd give this one a shot! I was not blown away though, I thought it was good but just not what I was hoping for. You definitely get some of the smooth creaminess of the maduro cigar leaf but, for me, there was just not enough spicey perique. Nevertheless, its a good tobacco if you want a nice creamy, all day kind of smoke!
