John Cotton's Double Pressed Latakia Sale

Many people who enjoy English and Balkan blends will buy them and age them for months or even years to take the "edge" off the Latakia flavor, and also to let the Virginias become a bit sweeter. With John Cotton's Double Pressed Latakia, a lot of that effort has already been done for you. It starts out as a flake that consists of smoky Cyprian Latakia, select ripe Virginias, fragrant Orientals, and a bit of Burley to add even more body. Then the aged flakes are fully rubbed out and allowed to breathe for weeks. Then the tobacco is put back into a press and formed into a crumble cake. The second pressing helps to mellow the Latakia and deepen the other flavors for a truly harmonious result. This isn't a "lat-bomb" by any means. The balance of John Cotton's Double Pressed Latakia is just about perfect if you don't like getting bowled over with smokiness.

A Surprisingly Wonderful Tobacco
I've been a pipe smoker for a long time, and I've tried dozens of different tobaccos and blends. Of everything I've smoked, this tobacco has surprised me the most. I like English blends, but I tend to prefer those a bit on the less smoky side; my same preference in scotch and bourbon. I expected a double-pressed latakia to be pure smoke, like a drop of liquid smoke on your tongue. I couldn't have been more wrong. This is a wonderful smoke if you're partial to the mild, peppery bite of English blends. It isn't very smoky at all. The very pleasant surprise I experienced with my first bowl, returns every time I fill a pipe with this stuff.

A smooth blend reminiscent of
A smooth blend reminiscent of a college professor’s office with notes of leather, old books, and a burning fire - a Latakia lover’s tin.

Excellent blend, but think twice.
Great stuff, but it costs ‘way too much. Factor in the costs for postage and handling and the price has doubled. I prefer Star of the East which one can buy in bulk.

Surprisingly Smooth and Mild
Surprisingly smooth, and much less 'smoky' than expected for a tobacco simply labeled as "Latakia". If you like a proper English blend, you will enjoy this double-pressed tobacco. I can't always taste individual components in tobacco blends, but the processing of this blend is such that the Virginia component clearly comes through. It's a bit pricey, but it's a nice way to spoil yourself now and again.

A very well balanced blend
A very well balanced blend with a latakia forward flavor but not as strong as the name would imply . I will buy this blend again

Very nice tobacco. Not harsh
Very nice tobacco. Not harsh or overbearing at all. Enjoyed it daily for about 7 days. Would recommend it to anyone who likes English tobaccos and I will purchase more for my cellar

This is definitely a nice quality tobacco. It was a little rough on the tongue at times, but overall, very nice.

J. Cotton's Double Pressed Latakia
This is a very slow burning, dense, lat/balkan blend. It's rich and definitely something a lat-lover would enjoy! Similar to a few G.L. Pease blends, Spark Plug and Gashlight.

Nuanced
This is a very delightful Latakia blend. It is subtle and can be an all day blend. Burns to a fine ash.

Excellent latakia blend
This stuff is one of my favorite latakia blends. Yes its latakia, but a whole lot more. I like blends that have interesting multiple dimensions to them and this is one. It's not sweet like an aromatic by any stretch, but it's definitely not one dimensional latakia either. Just....complex and interesting. And to me, super flavorful.

A new standard from Standard Tobacco
The mature, mellow flavors achieved by this treatment of the tobacco is spectacular.

Rich and wonderful
As a long-time smoker of English and Orientals, I recently discovered this unique blend from John Cotton. It is pretty pungent and strong smelling, but if you like those unique fragrances, you will like this.

No locker room here folks
I am new to pipe smoking and still trying to find my feet as to what I like and don't like. The first few Lat's that I tried were strong and overpowering to me and honestly tasted like a locker room smells after a big game, nasty. On suggestion I bought a tin of JC's Double Press and off the bat I knew that this was one I would be back for time and again. I don't often leave reviews but this one I feel strong enough about to do so. Now I need to find it in bulk.

Very nice
I'm very fond of this tobacco and find it smooth and easy on the tongue. I've no previous experience with a cake this thick and am unsure as to moisture needs to be added to it occasionally.

Hmmmm, what a surprise! ;)
Latakia is my all-time favourite baccy, I smoke it neat and also use it in my own blends. Wow! I just received my first 3 tins of JCDPL and couldn't wait to get cracking! Popped the tin open and was amazed there wasn't the "Lat Whack" I was expecting. Into the pipe, and away we go! Burns beautifully, and I was impressed by the smoothness. The Lat has certainly been tamed, and I think I would recommend this one to those pipe-smokers who can't stomach the intensity of full Lat, but enjoy the smokey aroma, and the subtle flavours. (…and don't forget, you can always add more Lat to ginger it up a notch! ;)
