Lane's BCA is a fire-cured and steamed Cavendish tobacco with an amazingly rich yet pleasant aroma that is so easy on the tongue that it can easily be smoked all day. BCA is far and away the most popular black Cavendish tobacco on the market and is very popular as an addition to other blends. See for yourself why this has been so popular for so long.
Got some when I got my first pipe and from day one I have been in love with the BCA very enjoyable smoke its my favorite so far.
I first smoked a pipe in 1976, and BCA was the second tobacco I tried. I have tried many other tobaccos, but always have returned to BCA as the one I normally smoke. It does bite less, and that is probably why I like it so much. I like English tobaccos, but they have a sour note for me, and BCA used afterward sweetens it up.
Nice Vanilla flavor. It was almost not there at first but continued to build as I smoked.
So far it is my go to but im trying different ones.
One of my favorite everyday smoke. Morning and evenings mostly
One of my first entries into pipe smoking. i see why this stuff sells well! creamy, slightly sweet, smooth, cool, excellent! this is a treat. Stuffed this in my MM legend and went to work. lovely!
Very enjoyable. creamy, smooth. smoking it straight is a delight. would be a nice addition to something that was harsh or burnt too hot. this is a staple item.
Lane BCA is gratifying and enjoyable, cool smoke without any tongue bite. The aroma is a creamy rich vanilla with a hint of mild whiskey. The vanilla top notes were evident from the first draw. With each subsequent sip, the flavors developed. By the time I had finished the first third of the bowl, the mellow whiskey flavors had become apparent. Upon reaching the last third of the bowl, the smooth vanilla had commingled perfectly with the whiskey to become what I can only describe as a honey dipped toasted marshmallow cappuccino. In fact, I was enjoying a late afternoon bowl on my porch with my friend while his five year old son was playing in the yard and enjoying the nice weather, when he suddenly ran up to us and proclaimed, "Daddy, I like Mr. Tim's yard! It smells like marshmallows!" He's quite the perspicacious little fellow. Needless to say, I was sold on BCA before I had finished my first bowl full. It's a wonderfully satisfying aromatic smoke. I'm a big fan and I think you will be too!
Lane's BCA is one of my favorites along with Lane's 1-Q and RLP-6 (try this one for sure). Great rotation, mild with no tongue bite. Definitely a winner for both beginners and Pro's.
Sticky, wet, gurgled in my pipe. Mellow. Flavor is subtle and not terribly memorable. I'll keep it to smoke from time to time.
Just finished my first Bowl of what will be many bowls of this fine tobacco. No tongue bite what so ever. Great flavor. I can see why so many people like this blend. Can't wait to try 1-q next.
Hands down best Cavendish out there. No bite what so ever and an absolute pleasure to smoke. You can easily smoke this all day.
This will be my daily goto. Such a pleasure to sip. Lights and maintains easy. Absolutely no bite. A wonderful aroma I can't really identify. Probably the only con is I should have ordered more. I will definitely be exploring the Lane Line. Stay puffy my friends!
I like this tobacco, it's flavor is good, it burns nice and long. I like to smoke this when I'm driving to the beach to go fishing.
This has to be the mildest tobacco I have ever smoked. Good quality tobacco that burns well and is very cool. On its own it is quite bland but it is great when blended with other tobaccos. It adds some coolness and another level to the smoke.
Tried a couple ounces of this based on reviews here. Excellent! Mild and a pleasant aroma. I liked this maybe a smidgen more than 1-Q and maybe a smidgen less than Black Raspberry. Very, very nice.
Read ALL the reviews on this and said to myself..."self, you gotta at least try it". Ordered a couple of ounces...got it...tried it...liked it. My every day, at least twice a day, is Nightcap by Dunhill. I'm an English blend fan (first and foremost) AND an aro fan if that's possible! Love the variety of both. Lane BCA (black cavendish aromatic) is a nice mild, suttle, great tasting aro with a smooth cool vanilla and caramel/chocolate flavor; at least that's what I'm tasting. It was quite pleasant and enjoyable. I smoke in the garage. Sometimes with the door up and sometimes not. After smoking a bowl of Dunhill Nightcap with the door shut, the fragrance in my garage is like I lit a campfire. Very pungent. After smoking a bowl of Lane BCA, and walking back in a little later, it's like I lit a vanilla/caramel candle and let it burn. Prominent but not overbearing. BCA is very nice in my opinion for anyone trying to find a good balanced aro blend. Yes, I've read reviews saying it's a great base to blend with other tobaccos. It may be, but I think it's certainly very nice on its own. Getting ready to order another 8 to 16 oz to stock up on. Good thing I've got Mason jars ready to go!
I loved it for the first 7 or 8 smokes. Than it began to taste progressively bland. I mixed it 50/50 with some of Boswells Pipers Pleasure and enjoyed that for a few smokes. Now I just don't care for it much or Boswells Pipes Pleasure for that matter. It is very mild and pleasant to smoke, but for my sweet tooth it needs more flavor.
Yup, good stuff, like everyone says. A regular in my rotations... Nicely done by Lane.
Okay, there is nothing I can say more than what has been said, but I'm still going to say it in case of anyone's doubt. This is a great smoke! It is mild, but very tasty. Easy burning, no tongue bite, and just plain flavorful. I'm at a phase where I am reducing the number of different tobaccos that I want to stock at home. Now with BCA, I can reduce the variety even more. I plan to buy this tobacco by the pound.
Hands down my favorite smoke. If you haven't tried it, you must. It smokes smooth with no bite. I do find that on the deeper bowled pipes, it can get a little gooey at the end of the bowl, but perhaps that is because of the way I pack it.
A very enjoyable tobacco. I would rate this tobacco 4.5 stars out of 5. The only negative that I found is that it is too moist and stays that way for a long time. So don't pack it too tight. BCA is also great to blend with strong or hot tobaccos to tame them down. The room note is also very pleasant. A great tobacco for a beginner pipe smoker.
Great everyday smoke smooth and no bite.
My mainstay, smoke it by itself, mix it with anything, I have been smoking a pipe on and off for over 35 years--BCA for a long, long time and it never changes, always great--Until the day i die there will always be BCA nearby
I am a new pipe smoker and recommend BCA very highly to others getting into the hobby. Like many other new smokers I find I am very sensitive to tongue bite and was starting to wonder if pipe smoking was just not for me but the other night I smoked a bowl of this stuff and was amazed, this stuff really bites a lot less than the others I had tried (Prince Albert, Solani Aged Burley Flake, Mac Baren Vanilla Cream Flake) and I had a much more enjoyable experience and was able to focus on the flavor which is (to my inexperienced palette) a sublte and very pleasant caramel/vanilla taste. Other reviews have stated there is no bite at all, I will say that this is probably as close to that as exists anywhere I got a little bite when puffing during re-lighting at the bottom of the bowl. The smoke is pleasant and does not burn my nostrils if I accidentally inhale some throgh my nose, and i found the aftertaste more to my liking than others too (expecially the PA and ABF, which I felt left an aftertaste of cigarettes). I don't smell like an ashtray afterwards either. I enjoyed it in a MM "Pony Express bent" and I had to do a few more re-lights than I prefer, I think this is mostly due to my inexperience packing tobacco and the narrow bowl of that pipe which makes it a little more difficult but I may try drying it out a bit to see if that helps. I do like the smaller bowled pipe just because I don't always want a full large bowl of tobacco at this point and I do recommend the MM cobs to new smokers because of their good price and smooth draw (I have ordered a churchwarden stem for mine and am excited to try that out). Overall, I found that this tobacco helps me to focus on the positives of pipe smoking as I learn and I will definitely be ordering more soon as i don't expect the 2 oz I got will be lasting long! Excellent service from P&C, I will not hesitate to order from them in the future.
I was pipe smoker since 40 years ago, quit smoking for a long time, now pick up my pipe again, trying to find my go to tobacco, after tried some tin can British, Dunhill, Cann, Escudo, they more or less has a degree of tongue bite, tried Tinder box captain spice, Wilshire, North Sea, they are good, but when I tried Lane BCA and Q1, they became my favorite, just the right balance, smooth and easy burning, BCA can turn into white ash to the last bit, great to break in a new pipe. good room note, no tongue bite, I doubt anyone will dislike these two, all the praises in other review are valid. I will try other Lanes to find my favorite. P&C seems dependable merchant, I m pleased with all my purchases so far. Both 5 star!
I have been searching for a suitable replacement for Flying Dutchman. I loved the aroma and that is actually what got me started smoking a pipe. The Flying Dutchman Match didn't do it for me. Actually, I mixed two parts of Lane Limited BCA with one part of Lane Limited 1-Q and experienced wonderful results. I had a fairly cool burn with just a little kick, lots of rich and creamy smoke, nice flavor, and a nice aftertaste that wasn't like an ashtray. I must agree with many reviews I have read. The tobacco burned all the way to the bottom, leaving a little white ash. For an Aromatic lover, BCA is one fine smoke and hard to beat. JJ
Great stuff! Great aroma and taste! Love it! It's almost exactly like Captain Black Dark. I think they're made by the same company.
Love this tobacco!! I have tried a lot of tobaccos as I am new to pipe smoking. I bought about 7- 1oz bags of different tobaccos and by far this BCA is the best I am going to order a ton of this next time. I smoked my pipe at a restaurant on the patio and had about 6-7 people come over to me and ask me what I was smoking. They loved the smell and I really love the taste.. Vanilla and Chocolate notes and very sweet tasting.
BCA is a great tobacco and has fantastic aroma. I find smoking it straight or blending with such as Lane 1Q a real treat. BCA smokes easy with no bite and stays lit. The room note is very pleasant to others and get many compliments. It is not 'gooey' or ultra hot like many aromatics, but very subtle. It is a good all day smoke and in the evening is great also. I really like it's blending qualities.
Difficult to believe that there is only two reviews! This is one of the best tobaccos for a beginner or experienced smoker. Wonderful aroma..no bite detected ...mild smoke..usually.smoke two bowls in a row and it is great. Pipe used churchwarden.
What an absolute pleasure to smoke! Moist, but burns easily with plenty of rich billowy smoke. Creamy smooth, the flavor deepens with every puff and simply refuses to bite. Doesn't ruin the new car's upholstery scent like cigarettes or cheap pipe tobacco. This smells so good even non-smokers will enjoy it.
I have been smoking BCA for nearly fifty years now! At first I bought it from pipe shops not knowing who made it or what is was called by the manufacturer. It had a different name at every shop. I finally learned that it was Lane Limited BCA and from then on would go into a shop and ask them what they called BCA. They always knew what I was talking about. I find it to be mild, flavorful and non biting but, of course, this is all subjective and depends on the smoker. I am a heavy smoker, smoking about ten pipe fulls a day on average. I have tried many other blends but always come back to BCA. It is always a balance between what tastes good to the smoker and what smells good to those around him. BCA is a perfect balance. My wife loves it and so do others who enter my cloud.
Lane Limited started in Dresden, Germany in 1890 and relocated to New York City in 1938. The number one maker of bulk pipe tobacco is the US and the manufacturer of Captain Black, Lane's logo is familiar to most pipe smokers, and now you can get a white ceramic jar with their logo emblazoned on it. This bail-closure jar will help keep your tobacco in fine condition for daily use.
