Lane Limited HGL is a mixture of black Cavendish laced with smoky Latakia blended with mellow white Burley and golden Virginia to produce a sweet, fuller-bodied smoke, that is still cool and slow-burning. This was purported to be the personal blend of Herman G. Lane, the man who made Lane Limited what it is today. If you like a pleasant aroma but miss the taste of Latakia, Lane HGL should hit the spot.
I've been smoking this for a couple of years now and like it very much. It's a nice change from Lane I-Q, with a little more life and sharpness to it, but not too much. The price is right, too.
Lane HGL is a cool nice burning smoke, that is a good replacement when Russ' s magnum opus is out of stock, when is almost all the time, thank heaven for Herman
I have had 6-8 bowls of my first order and enjoyed its consistent packing, lighting and burning. Very easy and effortless. The taste, for me, is a mild Virginia with an underlying tone that I would not be able to identify if I did not know it has latakia. I am a lat fan of Russ's Magnum Opus and find this blend is a good alternate. It is not one I would call bold or even strong and it has no nic effect: a requirement for me. If I was Herman Lane, know all the sellers and could have any tobacco in the world then I would smoke this blend regularly. But, then he did not have a chance to try MO.
