Mac Baren 7 Seas Black

Mac Baren’s 7 Seas Black is a toasted Cavendish, but unlike most American versions, Virginia is used as the base tobacco, which gives it more natural sweetness than the Burley-based types. Dark fruit and cream notes make this a winner across the board. Make sure you add Mac Baren's 7 Seas to your daily line up with your favorite briar.

Perfect choice for the evening smoke after dinner.
Mac Barn 7 Seas Black is a pleasant smoke with a mild black cavendish and a pleasant taste that doesn't overwhelm. Perfect for an evening smoke after dinner.

A Good Virginia
This isn’t my favorite tobacco, but this is a good, solid Virginia that is smooth and and has surprisingly very little bite…in fact, I would say no bite. Like every other Mac Baren I’ve tried, it is very light on the flavoring and very subtle. What I tasted was the Virginia, not the flavoring. I found it hard to light, but once lit, it easily stays lit throughout the bowl.

This is the aromatic that sets the bar for others. Great Smoke! Wonderful room note, little to no tongue bite. Smooth and enjoyable all day it’s my go to tobacco if I decide to have multiple bowls a day. As far as aromatics go this is one of my favorite.

aromatic
You can smell the tobacco through the bag, very aromatic, and a wonderful creamy smell. However, my first light of this did not go very well. I had trouble keeping it lit, and the taste was rather acrid. Upon further inspection, I realized my pipe had not been cleaned recently and was the likely culprit. After cleaning it and letting it rest, I have not had a chance to smoke this blend again, but I'm looking forward to round 2! Make sure to clean your pipes regularly!

Hints of anise, chocolate, and coffee. Top shelf pipe tobacco.
A lovely, deep, rich pipe tobacco with hints of anise, with an under current of chocolate and coffee.

Very tasty!
Currently this is my favorite aromatic. It does seem to need a little drying time before packing, but it pairs particularly well with how I take my coffee; sweet and plenty of creamer.

Perfect Black Blend
Wow! The tin note is of a Spice Gingerbread Cookie with a hint of Licorice. I also picked up hints of raisin and prune. Delicious tint aroma! The smoke is light, not harsh, tasty with zero tongue bite. The room note is superb. This is unlike a Black Cavendish. Not wet or "greasy", just perfect. I have to say this is my favorite blend to date.

Ok, I just fired up
Ok, I just fired up a pipe of 7 seas black. Well it is definitely a evening smoke. It's dark, I mean that it's very dark chocolate, espresso bean dark. I was chilaxing on the deck with the perfect drink, an oatmeal stout. The smoke enhances the ale and the stout enhances the smoke. Perfectly! Make sure you smoke it soft. Deep pulls cause heavy bite and cough. This needs to be savior slow.

Makes the Finals
Having recently returned to pipe smoking after decades, I have been experimenting with the dizzying plethora of tobaccos available hunting for that perfect blend. 7 Seas Black has moved up on the list of everday finalists. Plenty of flavor and a nice smooth smoke.

Great Smoking for the evening
Already a five star review as I am a black Cavendish and aromatic smoker and I also like using my old German Clay Pipe for tobacco like this and from what I am seeing on the reviews on here I can tell it's going to be a good smoke.

I purchased a pipe stand
I purchased a pipe stand and some tobacco for my wife for Christmas to remember her dad who has passed away. He was a pipe smoker and she had a few of his pipes but nothing to display them on. I also bought a small amount of tobacco for her to occasionally burn a bit for the aroma. The stand and his pipes reside next to her monitor on her computer desk and she occasionally burns a small pinch of #7 in memory of her dad.

Delicious with a great room note. It does have a light licorice aroma to it that I don't like as much as 7 Seas Red, but fans of aromatics should try it and see for themselves.

The heavy smoke of this
The heavy smoke of this tobacco is my favorite thing about it. But With its heavy vanilla and coco flavor that makes it a great smoke in the morning with a Texas pecan coffee. This smoke burns smooth and cool, it has very little tongue bite of any at all. That depends on how hot you smoke it. But be careful not to draw to hard, this tobacco tends to have burnt flavor of smoked to hot.

Delicious
The Smoke is cool and the flavor is delicious. This tobacco is awesome! High quality leaf and the flavor is not too sweet with a great tobacco taste. If you like aromatic smoking you will love this one.

It burns evenly, smells fresh
It burns evenly, smells fresh like a proper Cavendish tobacco ought to unlike the stuff you get in a pouch. Also, it has a blended cherry taste to it like other aromatics have, perfect for smoking in my Hobbit church warden pipe.

Quite good, actually
From the first puff after charring, it is a very pleasant taste on the tongue. It burns very nicely and evenly, not too moist nor too dry. Smelling it in the tin isn't remarkable but once you start smoking it you'll soon become addicted if you like the slightly sweet tasting tobaccos. I can't attest to how it's welcomed (or not) by non-smokers as I don't get out much where they are and only have my dog in the house and me, and she refuses to tell me how oggd or badly it smells inside. I personally like this type of tobacco and I *will* be getting more of this as I could smoke this all day. No bite, and not hot, even my little Bent Bulldog burns cool (although I have to admit I always take any stinger out of any pipe I buy that happens to have one...they *do* make a pipe get hotter, I don't care what you say or how you smoke it!) and I could smoke this in it all day long.

Black Cavendish defined.
An excellent quality tobacco that is cool without much bite if any. There's no bells & whistles or flashy neon signs with 7 Seas Black, nor does it need any. It just does black cavendish the way it was meant to be.

Best of the 7 Seas blends
Cool, flavorful smoke. Flavors of dark fruits and honey. If you are a fan of CB Dark you in to yourself to try this. In fact this one has richer tobacco flavor than the CB. One of my favorite automatics.

Great Taste
McBaren 7 seas is a great tasteing Aromatic with mainly a Vanilla taste and a hint of Fruit. It burns well, but if smoked to fast it will definitely bite your tongue. It burns well producing a thick creamy smoke. For me it’s a tobacco to smoke when you want something different and not a all day smoke.

Great taste and smell.
I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed this brand. I got it as part of one of the sampler deals and was very happy I took the chance on it. I will be ordering more. It has a great aroma, a nice mellow black cavendish taste, with a hint of spice and very low bite.

A European approximation of an american tobacco blend
I sampled all 5 blends of the 7 Seas line. It was like ordering an "American style" cheeseburger in New Zealand and finding beet slices instead of pickles within (true story). There are good points to the 7 Seas blends: not too wet, lights easily, burns at a medium rate; not hot, and the tin art is beautiful. But the flavor is just....odd. Like trying foreign fruit from another part of the world...and deciding you never want it again.

I didn't particularly care for it. Too strong, harsh for me.

I enjoyed this although it needs to be dried out a little before smoking. The flavors are like a silky smooth crème liquor.

Standard to Judge other Tobaccos
I'm fairly new to pipes and am still trying a variety of pipe tobaccos. After smoking a full bowl of each of the MacBaren 7 Seas (minus Red because I don't like cherry), I tossed out the other tobaccos I had. The bar has been raised!

A One-Time Buy
This blend burns well. It is not overpowering. It has a light sweetness on the tip of the toungue, but not much more in terms of flavor. The room note is pleasing. If this blend were a person, its conversation would be limited to small talk.

Dark and Sweet
Absolutely wonderful taste, and cool burning as mentioned by others. My powers of description are not all that, so I won't really try to describe flavor. If you are looking for something smooth, sweet with a great room note, you can't go wrong.

Good smooth smoke
Upon opening the sac of jet black goodness, it reminded me of a sweet ocean smell. In a good way,not a dead whale on low tide way.Amaretto, licorice, vanilla, chocholate whatever anybody else might be smelling ,I am reminded of being a kid in New England traveling to the Cape .When you start getting close, you smell the ocean.Out of the sac it is a little moist but still burns with a very enjoyable, rich, buttery smoke without bite.
3 out of 5
Seaworthy, but a little waterlogged
A good middle of the road aromatic blend. Its a lot like a more upscale version of Captain Black. Nothing extraordinary or too dull about it. It was a little too moist for my tastes when I first got it, so I air dried it a little to reduce the risk of tounge bite and it improved the flavor immensely. Take heed to remember that the Cavendish in this in this blend is made from Virginia tobacco which has a tendency to bite easily so smoke it slow. I bought a pound of it and experimented with half of it by mixing a little perique in at a ratio of 3:1 to spice it up and give it the nicotene 'oomph' I like and further reduced its bite. Takes it from a dark creamy fruity taste to a dark spiced rum.

Rich, Rounded, Delicious.
I'm a relative newbie, only been a pipe smoker for 3+ years now, but I love this tobacco. I have probably tried twenty-five to thirty tobaccos from this site and others, and this is the first time I have ordered more of the same tobacco. I've been looking for a rich, deep, "old fashioned" smoke, and this one has it all: a treat for the nose before you even light it; a smooth smoke with tons of character and it doesn't get too hot. I know taste is very subjective but for what it's worth, I think this one is a gem.

I'm pretty new to the pipe scene but thought I'd give some input anyway. As others have said, this tobacco is very moist from the start. Once you break the seal it doesn't take long for it to tone down. As far as smoking, I loved it! I've burned several bowls now and each one has been very enjoyable. I would buy again if there weren't so many other tobaccos/flavors to try!

Very pleasant note upon opening. Starts with an amaretto flavor (the reason I bought it), later in the bowl I started tasting the licorice. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Very Nice, Mellow, Silky Smooth Smoke with Gentle Complexity and Great Flavor
This is the first time I have tried this tobacco. Opening the tin, you are presented with a chocolate, vanilla and what I would describe as like a Bailey's Irish Cream/Other creamy liqueur aroma. It is a very rich and a VERY pleasing smell. I could sit and just smell the tin and be content. One thing I noticed right away was how moist it seemed. Compared to other tobaccos, this had a very dense and moist feel in my fingertips. It was easy to pack, but not so easy to light, I imagine because it was so moist. With a Zippo pipe lighter, it probably took about a minute to get it lit sufficiently. Once I got it lit though...oh it was SO smooth. Drawing it into my mouth was silky smooth and moist and carried with it great flavor and texture. The way it drew in, lingered and then exhaled was so smooth. It almost had a weight to it and you could feel the smoke glide out of your mouth and over your lips. A very pleasing and relaxing sensation. The smoke itself had great flavor. Mostly I could subtly taste the chocolate/liqueur flavor and once it heated up, it had a wonderful hint of citrus-like flavor. The deeper you drew, the stronger the citrus flavor became. As the smoke progressed, I noticed a mellow walnut-ish flavor. It was very mellow and never became overwhelming and never really grew in intensity once it was there. This is the type of flavor I notice with other tobaccos that tends to be the lingering aftertaste that isn't so pleasing after a while, but this flavor lasts for only a short while and doesn't leave the less-pleasing aftertaste that other tobaccos can leave. As far as the room note, I smoke outside and it was slightly breezy, so I didn't get a chance to really enjoy it to its fullest potential, but it was pleasant from what I could tell and should be pleasing to most others around you (my wife and son enjoyed it). It smoked cleanly and completely, despite how moist it was. I was prepared for a sticky mess, but there was none.

This blend had no flavor at all to it but charred smoke. It had quite a bit of bite and took many relights. I will be going back to lane bca.

As a newbie take this with a grain of salt, but I was just not impressed with this blend. I bought this along with Peter St. No. 47 Dansk Black, Sutliff Vanilla Custard, Cult Blood Red Moon & CAO Eileens Dream (and I like them in that order with this blend my least favorite). This blend just seemed to have no flavor at all to it but charred smoke. It had quite a bit of bite and took many relights. Blah!

Good body and easy to light. However there seams to be a very cheap and wet chemical taste that comes out.

I smoke this in my Peterson Dracula and have always liked it. The tin note is a sweet dark chocolate with a hint of fruit. The taste is similar to dark chocolate but with a warm buttery hint. Its almost like Ole Shenendoah to me.

I am a huge aromatics fan, it's mostly what I smoke. I especially love the dark aromatics so this one does not disappoint! Great aroma! It smokes nice and smooth with no tongue bite! Now one of my favorites!
