MATCH Country Doctor

This is a match to House of Windsor's "Country Doctor". A good share of cube-cut Burley is combined with yellow Virginias, smoky Latakia and sweet, spicy Perique - a classic example of the American-style English blend.

A Very Plesant Smoke
I have been sampling english blends but decided to try this one mostly because of the cube cut. It burns very nicely (not too hot and stays lit) and is all together a very pleasant smoke.

Not sure of the topping
Not sure of the topping on this. I really like the cut: it packs well. From my experience depending on what you smoke it in this can develop an excellent flavor

Fantastic blend. Love these old
Fantastic blend. Love these old “codger” blends! Nice crossover between English and Aromatic.

Just needs a little flavor.
I'm still trying to zero in on blends I like and tried this yesterday for the first time. I thought the burn was wonderful. It just kept on burning. I found it to be a very light smoke with no heat and a somewhat muted room aroma. My only complaint is that it had minimal flavor, almost to the point of being neutral. I'm going to try adding different things to small amounts of the Country Doctor to see if I can pick up the flavor a bit without affecting the positive attributes.

Kind of "Carter Hall-ish". Not terribly complex, so I kind mindlessly smoke it. Wife likes the aroma. For some reason, has a cigar creaminess. It's a good one that I seem to instinctively keep going back to.

Priced Right for a Pension
This is becoming my go to reasonably priced tobacco. Nice mid strength with good taste however unlike some I have not noticed any topping which is a good thing in my opinion especially when you go to clean your pipe bowl. Mine has always been fairly moist when I get it and smokes fine. Btw I am a true codger so I can't guarantee it for you newbies.

Country Doctor pipe tobacco
Liked the flavor just fine, but the cut is just a little too long for my complete satisfaction.

Nice change from my normal
Nice change from my normal preferences for English style tobaccos, satisfying smoke, I will keep in my rotation regiment.

A Latakia blend that isn't too strong.
Never smoked the original. It grows on me as I continue to smoke it. Pleasant taste and aroma, Latakia not too strong. I mainly smoke it at night but it could be an all day smoke. I think this blend would be a good "intro" to those who haven't smoked Latakia, it's not overpowering and the Perique makaes it more interesting. It's on my list of tobaccos that I will probably order again.

The Doctor is in!
After reading all the reviews, I decided to give this blend a try and I am so glad I did. Being a newbie to pipes[long time cigarette smoker] I've been looking for an everyday tobacco and after trying quite a few this became my instant favorite. Smooth but with enough nicotine to satisfy. Burns beautifully down to a nice white ash.

Codger goodness
Country Doctor was one of my favorite blends when House of Windsor produced it, but it's been over 10 years since I had that blend (never had any earlier version), and I'm not one of those guys who believe they can accurately compare a current version or match to the original they smoked back when the Celts still ruled Gaul or whenever (and they usually insist the new one is total garbage compared to the fine old blend. It's hard for anything to live up to our memory). This match is pretty close to what I *remember* the HOW version being like (I seem to remember HOW-CD having more cubed Burley, though). Take that for whatever it's worth. I may not be comparing it to what grandpa smoked in the 50s, but 10- 20 years is long enough for details to be hazy. An American codger blend from a time when Americans made lots of good pipe tobaccos. And lots more Americans smoked pipes. The tobaccos are mostly Burley with a dollop of VA, a couple pinches of Latakia and one of perique and a light fruity topping (so now you know the exact formula, haha). So you get lots of good Burley flavor with a bit of VA sweetness and zest, a bit of woodsy smokiness from the Latakia, a bit of spice from the perique, and they are all very nicely balanced into a whole greater than the sum of its parts. To top it off (pun intended) there's a mild berry-like topping that is absolutely delicious to me and really sets the blend off. The topping is most evident at the beginning, of course (and in the "tin" note, which makes my mouth water), but then it sort of marries into the rest and adds to the overall goodness. Lights and burns well and doesn't bite. It does need a bit of air drying before smoking. For newbies and occasional smokers the nic might get to you, but for us old smokers it is satisfying. Room note is...well, who cares? If SO doesn't like it tell 'em to go outside. Happy puffing.

Carter Hall but better
To me smells just like carter Hall but tastes like a lot better. Really wet but better than dry.

Nice Smoke but burns a little faster
I had not bought any of this for about 4 years, so when I ordered a couple of ounces of it I found it seemed to burn faster than it used to. I will order again though because it is a very pleasant smoke

It tasted great. I never had the original. Just a little to wet. Took several times of lighting to get it going

The counrty doctor is ready now!!
Very enjoyable smoke … Burned well and required very few relights in a Missouri Meerschaum corn cob . Not to sound cliché, this blend is and "all day smoke" This blend reminds me of both of Mixture 79 and Velvet. Trust me , play 1930-1940"s music sit back and enjoy this old time smoke.

Great smoke. Great price.
This is my new go to tobacco. I like English blends, but they can sometimes get too heavy. This is a great milder alternative to a straight English. A definite all day smoke.

Delicious light blend
The taste of this blend is amazing. It's an extremely light English with just a hint of latakia and perique - you have to almost look for them to taste them, but they are easy to find. The base of burley and Virginia makes for a very smooth and slightly sweet smoke. Jar note is slightly sweet and smokey, but it does not taste quite as sweet or smokey as it smells, which is a good thing in my opinion. Perfect for those who like a super mild smoke with a hint of woody flavor. In short, this is really delicious stuff! Now for the bad... the cut is terrible. It is chunky and leafy, which I like. But the dust... there is SO much dust. By "dust" I am referring to the powdery flakes that result from tobacco being crushed up. Most blends have a little dust in the bottom, but the bottom third of the bag I received is pure dust! It's so bad that the first 5 or 6 puffs of every pipe pulls through enough dust to choke on. You've got to either use a filter or spend a few minutes sucking up and spitting out the dust before you can being smoking. Maybe this is a result of the dryness (mine came pretty dry - I jarred it with a humidity disk for a few days) or just a result of the leafy cut getting crushed too easily. If MATCH can resolve the dust issue, this would be a top notch blend. The taste and lightness of this English-style blend are fantastic. I would recommend adding an extra ounce or two to your order just to compensate for the amount of crushed up dust you will need to filter out (which is only acceptable given how low the price is)
