Approaches But Does Not Quite Match Van Rossem Troost
Approaches but falls short of the Van Rossem Troost. Not as smooth with some bite. would like to see a match to the low aromatic Troost.

Vanilla Custard has too much
Vanilla Custard has too much flavoring. Smokes very smoothly, though. Troost match is excellent! Just like I remember the original...except no hassle, waste or mess from dealing with the slices that was the case with the original.

When i first started smoking
When i first started smoking a pipe I smoked Troost and stayed with it until i tried Cavendish, which I have been smoking for 15 years. I find Troost a little too harsh now. My intro to Cavendish was with Amphora and then Borkum Riff, but I my favorite now is Captain Black Dark, which is smooth and slightly sweet. Troost is a good tobacco, with a complex flavor that changes as it's smoked, and which I still enjoy. Thanks for bringing it back.

Its simular to the original
Its simular to the original but lacks something. The original had a chocolate undertone that gave it a smoothness

Not bad at all, quite mild aromatic
I never smoked the original Troost, so in a way I can judge this on its own merits without comparing it to the original. As an aromatic, the flavor and room note is quite mild. The strength is mild-medium. As another reviewer noted, the moisture level is just right. However, it does produce some gargle in the bowl for some reason (I don't get that with pretty much any other tobacco) plus a slight gooey ash in the bowl. Overall, 3.5 stars.

Reminiscent of Troost
I smoked Troost almost exclusively from about 1966 when it came in tins and was it it's best then settled for the packs until it's total disappearance about a year ago. Match Troost is reminiscent of the original but not quite up to snuff. I would encourage P&C to continue to try make Match Troost closer to the original. I would occasionally smoke Balkan Sobranie - another great tobacco for contrast. Today's blend seem to be too heavy on the aromatics and flavorings. This leaves me to surmise that the quality of tobacco has declined and all these aromatics and flavorings are added to cover up poor today's quality tobaccos,

Not what I expected
Not as I remember it, probably due to my senior dormant taste buds.

Good flavor, Nice aroma.
The tobacco came at the perfect amount of moisture: it felt slightly dry. It has a good flavor, nothing special but tasty. It's tobacco forward and not flavoring forward. I mix kentucky dark fired in with it at a 1:4 ratio and adds a little more body to it without overpowering it. I was smoking on a bench and a hipster walked up from about 1/2 block away to tell me he smelled it from there and it smelled great. He asked me what it was and where he could by a pipe. So...guess it has good bench note. The park is "no smoking" but it's only a graphic sign with a red bar going across a cigarette. no one gives me the stink eye when I smoke this, 7 seas (white, gold, or black), or Match Flying Dutchman on the bench. Guess I'll do it until they put another graphic type sign with a pipe crossed out under the cigarette crossed out graphic sign. I only smoke in the park on my walk if there's very few people in the park though. So, I'm not a total delinquent. If you smoke 1-Q because others around you like the smell, then try this. It apparently smells nice as well but it definitely has a bit more tobacco forward flavor.

Good, Not Great
The tobacco is pretty okay but not really Troost; Troost-like or Troost-ish but lacks something that would make a perfect replacement for the original Troost Aromatic. The flavor is very close in its approximation yet misses the full-bodied flavor the original had and the room notes are a little off, a little like a burnt cigarette. It's also missing the touch of sweet the original had. It's not a bad clone but if you are expecting a flavor like the original Troost you might be disappointed, just a little. On the other hand, it's a pretty good tobacco and worth a try. I found it a little milder than the Troost I recently smoked from my saved stock [a local shop was still selling the small bags last year at this time], but that mildness makes the clone appealing if one found the original had too much bite to it. It's reasonably priced so trying it out isn't going to break you. I'm going to try it again because I really kind of liked โ€” it's close enough to Troost Aromatic for me to try it again [and probably again and again]. Thanks Team Pipes and Cigars!

Very nice blend
This is an awesome smoke! Very nice nutty flavor and pleasing aroma. My first time trying this blend and I will absolutely purchase more!

Not a very close match, though good tobacco.
Four stars, BUT- this is not a match for Troost. I don't know if Van Rossem's is still in business and not importing to U.S. or if they are out of business, so I may not be able to make a side by side comparison. However, Troost was my regular bowl for years, and while this is similar, it is far from what I would call a match.

What 1Q Should Have Been!
I have no experience with the original Troost. However, this match blend is splendid...mild, no bite, and just a beautiful, deft blending of tobacco and flavors. The sweet, nutty burley comes through, but I don't get much presence of the oriental. The flavoring is more vanilla and honey to me, with just a faint hint of the butterscotch. It's the gentleness of that flavor melding that was, and continues to be, delicious. Am definitely ordering more, and keeping this one for those moments of relaxation when there's not that much to do...which is most of the time for me, being retired now. If you've been looking for something that is mild, but still tobacco forward, and yet well behaved in your mouth, and among guests, and where the tobacco and flavors don't fight for dominance, then this Match Troost is well worth trying. A keeper.

Great Clone!
I've smoked Troost Aromatic (with the blue trim) predominantly since 1971 or 1972. The aromatic version has been my favorite over all other types: aromatics, non-aromatics, and Englishman. Occasionally, I smoked Troost Special Cavendish (with the red trim). I much prefer the aromatic version because of its butterscotch top note. I regret that the Scandinavian Tobacco Group discontinued production. Thank you, Russ, for this match blend. I have a difficult time deciding whether or not match is exactly the same or hair-splittingly close to the Van Rossem original. Because I can't make up my mind, my quandary attests to your excellent skill as a tobacco blender, Russ! Thank you for your tremendous effort. Sincerely, Joseph B.

better than I remember
Much better than I remember, not overpowering with sweetness and not a bit of bite!

Great all-day smoke
Smooth, rich, a bit nutty, notes of bread and honey, and a little brown sugar in the background. I detect very little if any added flavors- they're undiscernable. I find myself coming back to this blend repeatedly. Smoke this one carefully because it can be a bit bitey if pushed. Definitely worth a try for the price. I'll be buying more.

MATCH Troost
These match blends can be all over the place so buy a sample first, if you like it, jump in with both feet. This is my 2nd batch and I'm really liking it. It's natural, it has that certain something you look for in this type of blend.

I long for the original Troost Aromatic.
i found this match to Troost aromatic to be better than any of my other attempts to find a match. However, it isnโ€™t as satisfying a smoke as the original bled. I will continue to purchase this cavendish blend. I long for someone who will pick up the original blend for those of us who miss it. BTW why did they quit producing it?

Nice taste, but 2 drawbacks
I enjoyed the full flavor of this one. The aroma was OK at first but later left the room smelling like a butted out cigarette. My wife was not crazy about the ashtray stench that this tobacco produced. The worst part is no matter how slow and cool I smoke this blend it destroys my tongue, even several hours after I smoke. In one instance I smoked a bowl at noon and at 6 O'clock I had a soda and it stung like heck. It's a shame about the cons because this really is a nice tasting tobacco. If it were not for the 2 drawbacks I mentioned, I be smoking this stuff all the time.

Very likable
Almost as good as the original, little peppery and little if any bite. Not real strong, but distinctive room note.

I've never tried the original, but this is an extremely mild smoke. Room note is barely there. Not bad, but not really my cuppa.

I truly enjoy this Match Trosst Aromatic, it's low in room smell and I can smoke inside. Regards, Oiva from Harbor Oregon
