The Pony Express is a smaller, barrel-shaped corn cob pipe, available in bent or straight and doesn't use a filter. They're a great shorter smoke, and the perfect way to quickly round out your rotation at a bargain price.
What a great little pipe. Bought this as my first ever pipe, figured it was smarter to break into the hobby with a pipe that's cheap and simple. Highly recommend as a first pipe for those wanting to give pipe smoking a try. If you don't like the experience you haven't invested much. The bowl is small and even as a noob I haven't got it too hot to hold. It does scorch a bit easy at the top, but my lighting skills suck too, also why pipe smoking noobs should automatically be assigned one of these, as to not scortch a beautifully crafted more expensive pipe. After a few noob smokes the pipe is holding up very well. I am ready to graduate up I think.
Great pipe for a quick smoke, however very narrow bowl, a bit difficult to fill up without a pipe tool. Forget trying to put your finger inside it, not gonna happen.
Just received this little workhorse yesterday and took a mid morning break to give it a try and I have to tell you it smokes great. Just the right size for taking a 20 minute break from writing and studying. I normally don't smoke without a filter but as I packed in some of my daily favorite and put the flame to it, I just didn't want to put it down. Like an old pocket knife I am carrying it around with me waiting for another break. Great little pipe with a little price to match.
Great smaller pipe. Bought one for my introduction to English blends. Added a walker forever stem in the churchwarden style and went to work. Perfect for stronger English, as you can smoke in moderation and the nic won't affect you as much. And the price is right. Sometimes you gotta have that smoke and this works, 20-25 mins your back in the house on the couch.
Standard MM cob. Smokes well--dry and fairly cool. My two biggest issues with the Pony Express is that the bowl is a little small for my taste (good for a quick smoke, but can't fit index finger inside the bowl) and that, unfiltered, the large bore inside the stem tends to allow filters to slip through. Other than that, it's an economic, quality cob pipe.
