Orlik Golden Sliced is one of the most iconic Virginia-based flake tobaccos in the world. Enjoyed by thousands around the globe every day, this nicely pressed blend is formed from sweet, bright flue-cured Virginias and an angel's breath of Perique. The slices are easy to prepare, whether you prefer to fold and stuff or fully rub. A favorite among Danish pipe makers, you'll know why immediately when you try Golden Sliced.
I smoke a little bit of everything, but my most enjoyable smokes are full-bodied, smoky, Latakia blends. I do enjoy an occasional VaPer (mostly Escudo) or even an aromatic from time to time. Hearing all the great reviews about OGS, I was excited to try it, so I threw a can in on my last order. Opening the can, the flakes were beautiful, about the right moisture, and just a gorgeous presentation. It had the nice, sweet and grassy smell of Virginias, and I could barely smell the Perique. I rubbed it out first and it felt great in the hand, so I was REALLY looking forward to smoking this! Unfortunately for me, that was the END of my enjoyment of this blend. I found it burned very hot, and tasted very "cigarettey." I was stunned at how unpleasant this was for me. It was so unpleasant that I dumped it out after several minutes of trying to get into it. For the record, I've only dumped out one or two other blends in my smoking history of close to several dozen different blends. Now, I don't give up on a blend until I've tried it a few more times over a several months and let it age a little, so we'll see how it fares down the road, but for in my opinion, and to my palette, it was DEFINITELY on the "Do not recommend" list.
What can I say about this tobacco that hasn't already been said. It is great and I will always keep some of this in stock!
I really don't know why I haven't had this blend until recently. Very nice Danish tobacco, some of the flakes/cavendish blends from Denmark can be a little rough around the edges...but not this one. A nice little Virginia sweetness to it keeps it interesting and no rough edges, smooth smoke. This is my kind of pipe tobacco.
My first flake since taking up pipe smoking three years ago. Tried the fold and stuff method and was met with complete failure, I guess I'm not ready for that yet. Then rubbed it out and had a completely different smoke. Very nice with no bite.
Definitely a quality flake. Unlike any other Virginias or VaPers I've tried. There's a huge Palmolive and black pepper tin note and taste that mellows with age. Not my favorite, but definitely quality stuff. May see how it does with a few years on it.
One of the first tobaccos I smoked, still a favorite and a great daily smoke, sweet virginias with a definite citrus note.
This is one fine smooth smoke. Quality tobacco that unrolls from the flat pressed flake easily in your fingers and packs nicely and burns cool white smoke like you're Gandalf. This would be prime smoke ring material. You can smoke pipe after pipe of this without your head swimming or getting a bitter taste.
I got a tin of this in the pipe club of month and just recently opened it, haven't been able to smoke anything else as this is just so good! Sadly it's almost gone. Says "High Grade Pipe Tobacco" on the tin and boy do they mean it!
I found this mild, clean smoke hints of well if I'd had to describe juniper or a little soapy. It's easily a daily smoke as calm as white wine. Funny thing and I'm sure it's just me but the smoke almost looked blue come out.
Smoking some of this right now for the first time. It's a great smoke! Nice mouth feel. Mellow flavor. Stays lit easily. My new favorite!
I really like these flakes. I only smoked aromatics prior to trying several Orlik blends. I don't think I'll be going back to the aromatics (not very often anyway). I enjoy the clean tobacco flavor of Golden Sliced very much. The flakes don't have a lot of different flavors present, but the flavor they have is very pleasing. I have found out the flakes burn best when broken up prior to packing the bowl (as apposed to folding). These flakes inspired me to take the plunge and order several higher priced English and Virgina tobaccos. I'm looking forward to finding out what fits my pallet the best. I believe another reviewer stated Golden Flake was a perfect transitional tobacco for an aromatic smoker, I completely agree.
Best va flake I've tryed never want this pipe to end citrus notes outstanding I will definitely storing many tins in my celler
Very nice, mild everyday smoke with an abundance of rich flavor that doesn't play out at the end of the bowl.
This an awesome VA.
Have tried a lot of different tobacco looking for just the right one as a standard. Orlik Golden Slice is the first one to "WOW" me. Great taste, no bite, smokes great stuffed or rubber. I highly recommend this tobacco.
My favorite flake hands down. Kind of "bitey," but tastes great. If you haven't tried it, get it.
I smoked pipes as a hobby but got away from them when I began smoking cigars about 20 years ago. I have since begun to enjoy a pipe again and I have been searching for some good tobacco to smoke. I started experimenting with aromatic tobaccos only but decided to venture into non aros recently. Orlik GS has made me wonder if I have been wasting my time up until now. Wow this is an excellent tobacco! I love the creaminess and mellow sweetness of this beauty. I was afraid non aromatic tobacco would be too much but it is quite the opposite. No bite and just pure tobacco flavor. I'm sure I will still enjoy my RLP-6 but as far as I am concerned I wish I had tried this a long time ago! I can't stop smoking this!
Really enjoyed this. It was my first venture into VaPers... so once I learned how to smoke it and what pipe to pair it with, I enjoy it very much. Hate that I missed having it during the summer because it would be excellent being out in the warm sunshine with it.
A favorite of mine, I am a big fan of Virginia tobaccos. Orlik golden slice is a very good mix of Virginia'a to provied a smooth mild smoke. I smoke most Va's in a small bowl and take my time, the sugar content in Orlik is somewhat high so watch for over heating the the bowl. I have several tins in my cellar, and buy more when I can.
Smooth Virgia taste with a light Perique zing, and a subtle sweetness.
Great smoke has become one of my favorites. Highly recommend.
Love, Love this stuff. Started pipe smoking last month and smoke two to three bowls a day. This is always one of my three I choose.
while it is a well made tobacco, I found that OGS burned too hot for my pipe, so much so that I think that will long term use it could ruin it. I think this tobacco is better suited for a corncob pipe or a hand rolled. That way you wont have to worry about the heat, and you'll still get the great flavor this tobacco has.
Dagner was right! Smooth, mellow, and nice flavor. Packed a bowl as soon as I unwrapped it, heaven in a bowl.
OGS is a classic Virginia blend. Mild, lemon/citrus flavors that come from naturally curing the tobacco, with just a touch of Perique to round it out. A pleasure to smoke and a good tobacco for a beginner who may be looking to step beyond aromatics. Seasoned pipe smokers appreciate it for it's pure, simple quality. You will never go wrong with Orlik, guaranteed.
Delicious stuff. If you love Virginias you will love this. Burns nice, tastes better.
A must have for those who enjoy flakes. This was my first Virginia flake, and the more varieties I try, the more I appreciate it. I've only had 7-8 others, but this one is the best so far. The only comparable product, for me, is the Mac Baren Virginia Flake. It is slightly different, likely due to the absence of the Perique that exists in the Orlik, but is nearly as good. Orlik takes the top prize due to that extra little flavor and the fact that it cost 20-25% less per tin.
This was the first flake tobacco I tried. It is smooth the taste is of pure, well aged Virginia. I was surprised how easily lit and burned very well, despite being quite moist. For some reason, it seem a bit harsh in my nose, leaving a slight burning sensation. This disappeared after the 2nd bowl. I attribute this to my pallet adjusting to a new type of tobacco. A great choice for the first time flake smoker.
Not a bad tobacco, but if you're looking for a heavy perique blend this isn't it.
loved it wish I bought more instead of the other stuff, I will miss it while I smoke my other tins. They probably won't go fast enough for me.
I'm very much in the middle on Orlik Golden Sliced. I found it to be not good, but not bad... mostly just pretty bland to me. It smokes pretty well, but... I must be honest when I say that I found it to be pretty underwhelming and kinda boring. It's not a tobacco that I plan on ordering again.
A great way to move away from aromatics and the perfect first flake. Sweet and a balanced spice to familiarize yourself with the style.
A really mellow smoke with no bite . will order again
This was the first flake tobacco I tried. I have to say it's not bad, I kind of like it! Has a fruity kind of aroma. Smokes nice. I will definitely keep smoking this one!
Don't overlook this gem! If you're exploring flakes, this one is up there with Dunhill Flake and Peterson University Flake. And at a much better price. I actually prefer it over Capstan, which is literally TWICE this price! Drop a tin in the cart. You won't be sorry.
this is my #1 daily smoke so if you like Va. flake you need to try this one
Some friends recommended this tobacco and I am glad they did. This is one I smoke every day. Nice, mild, and no bite to the tongue. I highly recommend this stuff.
