Peter Stokkebye 23 B&B

B&B has been one of the favorites in the Peter Stokkebye line for decades. This smooth combination of mellow, nutty, pressed Burley and gently-steamed black Cavendish is finished with a creamy vanilla note for a nicely sweet flavor and outstanding room note. B&B is one of the best examples of a mellow Danish aromatic.

Welcome Home
I love this tobacco. They say it's burley and cavendish, but it sure seems like there's some virginia in there. Either way, it burns very well, has a wonderful vanilla-esque room note but not a phony smell. It smells like pipe tobacco. No bite. May be a bit damp for some out of the pouch, so you may want to let it air for a half day or so, but I like it just the way it comes. This is probably my most frequently smoked tobacco. For me, and this is a personal preference thing (I guess all reviews are), it loses something in a meerschaum--especially a fairly new one. Decent in a well seasoned meerschaum, but it definitely excels in a briar. Has a nice "welcome home" scent and taste. There is some welcome complexity/layers to it as you begin to understand the taste. A very slight bit of raisin, definitley vanilla, and some straightforward tobacco taste, though that is way in the background. Very little goop in the bowl, even the larger sizes. I highly recommend it.

Simply The Best
I was introduced to Stokkebye tobaccos back in 1978, when a good friend had a small local tobacconist business. Being as young as I was (around twenty), I had only smoked "drug store" tobaccos. After learning to appreciate the art of smoking quality tobacco in quality pipes, I ended up working at the store, and eventually partnering with another employee who had become a close friend, and buying out the original owners. Sadly, the competition from two larger cities, combined with the growing mail-order option, did not provide a successful enough environment to stay in business as the years passed. However, during that period of purchasing a wide variety of pipes and tobaccos, as well as blending and learning to "marry" different tobaccos to get a new flavour, I was able to try several of the top brands. None came up to the standards of Peter Stokkebye for both rich flavour and mildness. Others tried to copy their blends (PS #23 or "B & B" was probably one of the most popular, and at least one other major supplier offered their own version of "B & B", but as good as it was it just wasn't the bite-free pleasure the Stokkebye original was. I've been smoking for decades now, and can still say there is just no topping any of the Stokkebye blends, with PS #23 likely being the best all-around fit for a majority of smokers. I also love the Black Cavendish, Nougat, and Pistachio blends, amongst others. I cannot overstate my appreciation for the fact that your firm carries these wonderful tobaccos at affordable prices. It makes the pleasure of pipe smoking something anyone can enjoy.

Great, solid, burley aromatic
It's a bit like a fancier Carter Hall or Half & Half. It has significantly more vanilla than either of these two blends, though. I also find that it works well as a mixer with overly-aggressive English blends (particularly one that has too much perique, in my experience).

Sweet cool mild smoke.
Mild cool smoke with a hint of sweetness. Touch of nuts. Great with coffee. I enjoy it with a MM Country Gentleman cob

I love it
I love this stuff. It's basically like a superior, richer, tastier version of Carter Hall. It's become my go-to smoke.

I like this as a change from 1Q which is my mainstay. Most everybody likes it too.

A better vanilla than most
As others have noted, vanilla is not extraordinarily noticeable in this blend, and the ability to discern natural tobacco taste is a large factor in my judgement that this is a good aromatic at a great bulk price point. I get more of a sugary raisin note from the pouch note and charring light, but the room note deliciously evolves into what I can only describe as fresh pecan pie. I get more flavor out of this blend than I do with the majority of aromatics, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it will knock your socks off. It's unobtrusive, mild, mellow, perfect for sipping while in the mood for an aro and a good book. It burns evenly with little maintenance. I've enjoyed mixing a dash of this in some of my strong balkan, english, and VaPer blends to create some interesting variations. I plan to keep in my rotation and will buy again.

Tin description is accurate
When I first light it there is almost a warm brownie smell that does not seem like flavorings. That smell does not last long as the nutty, coffee almost chocolate, taste comes through; although very mild. The further down it burns those traits begin to diminish. No nic buzz--I am nic sensitive. The tin description is accurate.

A superior choice for discerning smokers.
I'm a natural smoker with only Capt. Black original as my previous desert smoke. After trying B&B I was blown away with the quality of the flavor and everybody I have given some too has turned away from BCA and 1Q and even the Captain for this superior Aromatic for grownups. No more goopy candy tobacco, get yourself some B&B today!

Peter Stokkebye 23 B&B
I'm a big fan of Peter Stokkebye's quality pipe tobaccos and its 23 B&B did not disappoint. Its a long-lasting, smooth, clean and dry smoke. Nothing but white ash left - leaves no moisture in the bowl. Very enjoyable when out for a long jaunt with the dog. While I mainly smoke very aromatic tobaccos (everyone around you loves and compliments you on an aromatic pipe tobacco unlike cigarettes and cigars), privately I smoke and enjoy better tasting, higher quality and more enjoyable pipe tobaccos and this is one of them. Highly recommended that you try this enjoyable one!
