Peterson Early Morning

For all of the P&C Faithful who were concerned that Dunhill tobaccos had disappeared forever - good news! The blends are back using the same exact blends and tobaccos, coming from the same factory. The only thing that's different is that they are now under the Peterson name. Even the classic artwork remains.

Peterson Early Morning Pipe tobacco is one of the true classics. This blend starts with golden and red flue-cured tobaccos which are matured under pressure while heat is applied, deepening the flavor. Choice Oriental tobaccos are added for spice, and just enough Latakia is incorporated to give the blend a smokiness, with a hint of leather. Early Morning Pipe is a mellow tobacco that’s smooth and delicious, a perfect choice to start your day off, but packing enough flavor to enjoy any time of day. This ribbon-cut tobacco is lightly pressed and easily enjoyable. For a light English blend accompanied by sweet tobaccos, Early Morning Pipe is a superb Peterson selection.

Outstanding, full of flavor without overwhelming
Just ordered some emp from this site but I figured I'd toss my two cents in from a previous purchase at a local cigar shop. I went in just to see what their selection was, and the only person in the pipe room swore by it. At that time (3 months ago) I had just begun my pipe journey in earnest and was fixated on aromatics. The guy at the shop warned me that this was an English blend but to give it a try. I purchased it. After researching English blends online, I found myself hesitant to try it. One night I finally pulled the trigger and popped the tin open and wowww. If you're an aromatic type who can actually taste the flavors of the topping, good for you. I couldn't ever taste aromatics with the exception of east Indian trading company cellar reserve (still love that stuff). But I definitely tasted early morning. Good for any time of day, but even better with a cup of coffee. The flavors of this blend enhance the taste of coffee, and vice versa. Smokey, but not overpowering. Slightly peppery in a way, but it's a good thing. To those curious, I'd say this blend is worth it if you want more than the flavors added to aromatics. This is true tobacco flavor shining through. Personally I find it a mild, interesting and tasty smoke with a decent nicotine hit that leaves a tolerable after taste. It opened a whole new world of possibilities for me and I can't wait to get my new order of English blends and Balkans.

All Day Smoke
Despite the name, this is an all day smoke for me. I see it as the inverse blend to Nightcap - whereas Nightcap is a deep lat-bomb, EMP is light and the Virginias seem to come to the fore. This is a great English for VA fans. The Virginias and Orientals play very nicely together. I'd almost call EMP more of a Balkan/Virginia than an English.

A Proper English
— Tin Note Kind of a leathery sweetness, slighty smoky. — Tasting Notes Shoe leather, slightly floral, smoky and spicy, maybe a subtle nutty note here and there. Exactly what the desription says. Straightforward English. I smoke hot so I got a bit of tongue bite but it wasn't too bad. — Room Note A toasted, natural tobacco smell. Very pleasant woodsy kind of scent. I could see this as a tobacco my hardworking grandfather would smoke. A proper English with a nice little nicotine hit to boost the morning mood AND affordable to boot. If a light English is your thing, this is the pipeweed for you.

Almost English
Very mild ‘almost’ English blend. Mostly comprised of sweet, bready Virginias with just enough Latakia to know it’s there. I tend to prefer more robust English blends, but this is a good middle ground when I need a change-up. Smoke is cool, mellow, creamy, and flavorful, and pairs well with a strong cup of coffee.

really matches the reviews
Super Tasty. Super Savory. if it were a tv show, its name would be "The Spice Is Right". maybe dont smoke it before a meal could be the only con i for-see. the savory after notes really coat the palette (in a great way in my opinion). i will be stocking up on this one next order.

A light pepper, warm nutty, smoked barrel, earthy, morel mushroom, nostalgia inducing blend.
This was my first time trying a latakia blend. After hearing people raving about blends on this website I put aside the Sir Walter Raleigh can and decided to give them a try. The tin note to a novice nose is going to smell strong of smoky campfire with maybe a touch of motor oil. Strange as the blend tastes nothing like that. Upon lighting it and getting an ember going I noticed a duality in this blend. A peppery flavor lightly stings the tongue at first but then a warm nostalgic flavor of campfires, nuttiness, earthiness, a flavor sort of like morel mushrooms, and a bit of a bit of a bread like flavor creeps in. I found myself intrigued and saying "hrmmm" over and over again while trying to describe this blend to myself. It's hard to put my finger on what part of this blend I enjoy exactly. But it is a wonderful balance. I can't wait to see how it tastes with more experience and age. Very nostalgia invoking flavors going on here. Don't smoke it on an empty stomach if you aren't used to latakia. Glad I didn't go with the nightcap first. If toppings and flavor are your thing this blend may not be for you. This is a very unique combo that requires you to feel out the flavors beyond the smokiness. Latakia is known to ghost so maybe try this in a cob the first time around. Glad I did enjoy it. One of my favorite pipes is now for English blends only.

May be my imagination...but
The 5 year old stock I have in hand is honestly MUCH better than this newer blend. Of course, I realize that the additional years on the tins make a big difference. but honestly I did notice a difference between the new tin of the Peterson's version and my original Dunhill tobacco. Don't really know i it is my mind or actual difference, but the original Dunhill has a more satisfying hit.

Just right for a light, don't have to think about it blend.
Not my favorite Peterson English offering. But, it has it's merits. When I am in the mood for an English that is light and easily digested mentally. This is it. 965 offer's much more in depth. Which I am not always in the mood for. This is in my change of pace tobacco's list. Slightly sweet, nutty, and only a hint of Latakia smokiness.

Very nice!!
This is *everything* it claims to be in flavor. It is simply stunning how good this blend tastes. It's so good, I actually *do* take time for myself in the early morning to sit on the stoop and throw the ball with the dog while smoking my pipe with this stuffed in it. It's so easy to smoke, meaning it burns very nicely, and the flavor is so mellow that it's very easy to just relax and not think of much more than enjoying the moment. I *will* be getting more of this blend! It's well worth having and as far as I'm concerned it can be a daily smoke quite easily...if one has the funds to keep stocked up on it, heh.

Nice smooth smoky start of the bowl, with a nice sweet graham cracker taste on the first third. The second third starts to die a bit but if you sip on it slowly you definitely get a bunch of different flavors. The third of the bowl starts going out with flavors definitely get a smoky taste. I would rate this 3/5 stars because of many my preference of taste I’m definitely have a taste for more boulder blends.

A Personal Favorite
This particular blend is the first pipe tobacco I ever tried, and it is easily my favorite thus far. I think it would be a great intro into English blends, as it isn't too harsh, but has just the right amount of smokiness. This blend, with me being a relatively new smoker, give me a slight rush or buzz about midway through the bowl. The aroma isn't too strong, and smells like lightly spiced burning hay.

Love affair of EMP
I sit here writing to you this review of Early Morning Pipe. Although, not the Peterson rendition (though I imagine the profile to be just the same) but the Dunhill blend! I had managed to buy one of the last tins of Dunhill before they discontinued the EMP and it's other blends leaving pipe smokers in virtual purgatory before Peterson picked them up some years later. Now when I bought this blend, I was a very young and starting up pipe smoker and let me tell you, was my very first english blend. It did not sit right with me one bit. Popped open the bag, loaded the pipe and smoked till my heart's content and sent into a hysteria of nic high and unsettled stomach. It put me off at first but decided to age the blend in a mason jar. Some 4 or 5 years later today, here I am smoking what is my fifth bowl in a week's rotation and I must say I AM IN LOVE. Age and maturity does affect your palate, and case in point, your enjoyment for certain tobaccos. From start to finish I must say EMP is true to an early morning love affair. It's fragrance and aroma has you enjoying every sip from the top to the very miniscule bottom of the bowl. As I sit here, writing this review, smoking a bowl of this hidden treasure in my devil cutty corn cob; I am pleased to say anyone that is looking for a good morning and truth be told, all around good english that you will not be disappointed. Could not go wrong with EMP or Nightcap for that matter. I hope this helps you all and Happy Piping fellow Pipers!

I Love It!
This blend fits its description beautifully. It is smooth, cool-smoking, and each puff delivers a multitude of flavors. While it is tasty at any point in the day, I especially enjoy it with my second cup of coffee. The Virginia provides a bit of sweetness, the Oriental adds spiciness, and the Latakia plays well with them.

My first English and I’m impressed. Very flavorful!
First off, If anybody has had a bad experience with this tobacco, it is a result of smoking it way too hot like I did. This is really a really great blend. I received my first tin of EMP several days ago and wrote a review telling of my terrible experience, bashed the tobacco and I now hope it does not get published. I will say this: this tobacco taught me how to smoke a pipe. I picked up a pipe 2 years ago and gave it break for a year or less. Just got back into it. I thought tongue bite and lack of flavor was the tobaccos fault. But I couldn’t understand why I never got the flavors people spoke about. Apparently smoking your pipe like a cigar or a train stack is NOT the way to go. My favorite blends tend to be Aros, Lane Q1 takes 1st. But, Early Morning Pipe may replace it. I did some research because of all the raving reviews this blend has had and I couldn’t figure out why I hated it. I leaned how to really slow down by using the breath method as taught by Mutton Chop Piper. Man, this changed my life. Ok, so EMP is sweet to the bottom of the bowl, spicy, some pepper bites, zero tongue bite when smoked cool, maybe a little bit of sweet sour here and there throughout the bowl. This is awesome stuff. I can’t wait until my tastebuds heal so I can experience the full flavors. I can now see why this is a favorite of so many. I’m really glad I stuck with it and didn’t give up. My only regret is the ounce of haunted bookshop that I threw away last week. I need to give that an honest try again now that I know I was the problem.

Quality blend, but not for the faint of heart!
I'm giving Early Morning Pipe 5 stars not because I like it, but because I recognize that it is a high-quality tobacco with excellent smoking qualities...but it blows my head off. The nicotine content of this blend is high! It's called "Early Morning Pipe" for a reason - it's designed to sock your system a fairly strong jolt of stimulant. If you're a light-weight like me after about 10 minutes of smoking this blend you will feel like you are on the tilting deck of a ship during a storm. However, if you're a crusty pipe smoker with a manly nicotine tolerance, you will most likely enjoy the excellent tobaccos used in Early Morning Pipe.

Gold Standard Light English
Been smoking this for years as my all day baccy. Very consistent. Light and easy smoking with Latakia smokiness, oriental sourness and Virginia sweetness all in perfect balance. Very smooth and a good hit of nicotine. Never bites. Always satisfying

Fantastic
I was very excited to try this legendary blend, and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Very balanced, easy smoking. The perfect amount of Latakia for those who like it but don't want it to be too forward. I love English blends, and this one might be my favorite yet. Do yourself a favor and try this classic blend if you haven't already.

Profoundly Weird
I'm new to pipe tobacco, so if it sounds like I don't really know what I'm talking about, you're probably right. Early Morning Pipe was the 5th pipe tobacco (and 1st English-style pipe tobacco) I ever tried. Having been preceded by a blend I bought locally called "Somerset" (delicious, by the way), Sutliff's Vanilla Custard, Captain Black, and Stokkebye's No. 38 Highland Whiskey, this was the first non-aromatic tobacco I stuck in my pipe. I don't think anything could've prepared me for how radically different this would be compared to what came before. The best way I could describe it would be "profoundly weird" (sort of like the first time you had an IPA and thought you'd just drank fermented onion juice). As with IPAs, Early Morning Pipe has become an early favorite.

Made me love Latkia
I got this to try because my 5:30 am coffee/pipe time is my favorite part of the day. I am a fairly new pipe smoker and was totally biased against English blends, in fact turned off by ANYTHING with Cyprian Latkia. However, I committed to at least 1 bowl of EMP each day. Now English & Balkan blends... pretty much ANYTHING with Cyprian Latkia is more than welcomed in my briars. Peterson EMP (as well as Nightcap) have become a daily morning (and evening) ritual that I find myself looking forward to throughout each mid day.

I used to smoke Dunhill Standard and found the Peterson version a bit too intense for my palate. I believe the Peterson version of Early Morning is slightly stronger than Dunhill’s original so, for me, it comes closer to the old Standard Mixture

Mellow English with a Buzz
I agree with most of the reviews of this stuff. It's a mild, English tobacco that is great to start the day, especially with the buzz that I get from the nicotine content. I've only smoked a few tobaccos over the years that have given me a real rush, with mild sweats and increased heart rate, and this is one of them.

Peterson & Dunhill EMP
My personal take on it is that Peterson has done a great job in taking over the manufacture of EMP. It is very good. However, that being said, it would be great if they were to make it in bulk as well. Tinned tobacco gets a little pricey as a regular go-to tobacco. The EMP match brands falls way short, every brand seems to adds ethylene glycol to the tobacco to maintain a moisture level. The chemical has a taste that I find off-putting and detracts from the blend, hence I do not use it. Peterson has been true to its charge. May it continue.

High quality starter English blend
Easing my way back into pipe smoking after nearly 40 years away, this was the first English blend I tried. The Latakia is really prominent in the aroma in the tin, but is not overpowering once you light it. I'm enjoying it as much now as I did 40 years ago when it was a Dunhill brand.

Subtle, but well-rounded
This English blend offers a subtle sweetness and nice, gentle smoke for those early-risers. However, it's perfect any time of day. I found notes of cream and leather, but very understated. I'd say this blend is a good introduction to Englishes for those looking to expand their tobacco horizons. Also, unlike other Englishes, the room note is soft enough that my wife doesn't run me out of the room half-way through a bowl!

Spot on re-issue, it's just like I remembered.
This was one of my staples, under the Dunhill name, along with My Mixture 965, Nightcap, Standard Mixture, and Elizabethan. I was seldom so pleased as when Peterson picked up the torch, and began releasing these blends under their own name. Peterson Early Morning Pipe is, IMO, spot on to the original, I can't detect any difference. This is one that I usually cellar for a year or two, so I purchased four tins (also four tins of 965, Nightcap, Standard Mixture and Elizabethan), one for now and three for later (and I plan on ordering even more for the celler). I opened the first tin, and was greeted with a very pleasant and familiar aroma, sweet and smoky, with a complex creamy leathery undertone. Moisture content was perfect for smoking right out of the tin (as all of the Dunhills were). It packed nicely, lit easily, and stayed lit very well. It got into the 'zone' quickly, and delivered a sweet and slightly smokey incense like smooth smoke, just like I remembered. The nicotine was on the high side of medium, just right for the first pipe of the day. My conclusion was that that 'They're Back'! I had the same conclusion with the other blends I mentioned. I'm very grateful to Peterson for bringing back our beloved Dunhill blends, if you (like me) enjoyed the Dunhill blends, you will not be disappointed with the Peterson re-issues. They even kept the cool Dunhill tin art, it's exactly the same except for the change in the name from Dunhill to Peterson.

Mild but stinky
This is the first tobacco I enjoyed. I bought it alongside Nightcap which didn't go with my palate. This one is relatively mild but I can get some decent flavor when I smoke it hot. It leaves a bad room note, though. Other tobaccos don't smell as much like an ashtray as Early Morning Pipe. That lessens the experience for me so it loses a star. It also seems relatively expensive but I might just be a newbie and the price is justified by some esoteric quality I'm not experiencing. Good on Peterson for continuing to blend it since Dunhill dropped pipe tobaccos, though.

Day Doesn't Begin Without
This is the perfect blend to start your day with. All the different tobaccos are present without overstimulating your awakening senses. The different profiles of the Latakia, orietnals (to a lesser extent to my taste buds) and VA's stay pretty consistent throughout the bowl setting a foundation for a productive and fulfilling day ahead (and more bowls). Gave 4/5 only because I am relatively new to pipe tobacco and haven't tried enough blends to have found my 5 star.

EMP is back!
Dunhill EMP was my favorite tobacco for years; I was sorry to see Dunhill get out of the pipe tobacco business. Peterson has taken up several of the Dunhill blends—they are using the same Danish manufacturer that Dunhill used, so this is the same mix. Excellent mild ‘English style’ tobacco for all day smoking.

My Favrite
I have several different English tobaccos but this is the one I choose when I want a cool slow smoke in one of my large capacity pipes. I guess my palate isn’t good enough to tell you why. I just know it is my favorite. I do like to dry it out a bit.
5 out of 5
Good first english
This blend opened up the tobac world for me. Coming from being an amateur cigar smoker, I was used to tasting and enjoying delicious tobacco. My first pipe tobaccos were aromatics (McClelland), and god they were TERRIBLE. I was really down in the dumps man. Tongue bite, 1000 relights, burnt bowls, I almost gave it up. On a whim I tried this as a last ditch effort. I should have started here. It arrived a little wet, I had to dry it overnight. But I packed a bowl and smoked it to the heel. No bite, couple relights (I’m new, give me a break), and it tasted great! Smooth, buttery, toasty. From here I moved into 965 and Elizabethan, Orlick Golden, Bengal Slices, man the world has opened up for me. No one I know smokes a pipe and I’m not big on forums so I’m figuring this all out on my own. I underestimated how difficult this is compared to cigar smoking, but the rewards (recently) have been commensurate. Highly recommend this blend, and I wish it wasn’t going away. It’ll hold a special place in my heart and if I could afford it I would buy 10 tins. 1 tin will have to suffice.

Tasty Buttery Smokey Blend
Upon opening this blend my senses were punched with a beautiful light Virginia smell along side a more powerful Latakia smell. The Latakia only overpowers the Virginia's because of the nature of Latakia. It smelled beautiful upon opening, and my palette was ready to take in the smokey buttery flavor of this blend. This blend packs a punch. The Virginia's were beautifully smooth with a punch of the Latakia that I like. Buttery and nutty with a smokey aftertaste that reminded me of a good BBQ. However, I found that the blend burned a bit hot. I struggled to maintain an even burn that didn't give me some tonguebite. Upon exhaling through my nose was an amazing flavor that enhanced the smokey, buttery flavor. Never-the-less, the hot nature of this smoke did irritate my nose a bit as I exhaled. The day I tried this blend, was a bit breezy, so I won't fully blame the blend for its hot uneven burn. I feel that it was largely because of the wind. Four stars. I haven't found my five star blend yet, as I am still learning the intricacies of tobacco pipe smoking. This was tasty. If Dunhill does intend to close shop, it will indeed be a sad day. My next buy will likely be Dunhill's Night Cap. I look forward to trying a strong Latakia Perique blend.

My number 2.
I only gave this tobacco 4 stars because I tried Ashton Consummate Gentleman first. If it wasn't for that it would be 5 stars hands down. The Ashton has a little bit more of a smoky, leathery flavor that I prefer. This tobacco is very smooth and easy to smoke. It burns cool and even down to a white ash, I only had to re-light once and that's because I had to get another beer. In my book, that's not a bad thing. If this product is truly going away, that's a sad thing. I would like to keep it in my rotation. I've tried several others and this is my number 2. With a little luck someone will come up with a match in bulk.

My First English Blend!
I'm still pretty new at pipe smoking, but I'm getting a sense of what I enjoy. I'm also starting to learn to appreciate how much different the flavor is from the smell of the unburned tobacco. Some tobaccos smell fantastic but don't taste much like the smell. I found that this blend smelled odd (like a mix of leather, wood smoke, and burnt rubber) but not unpleasant, but it tasted fantastically mellow and was a pleasure to smoke for the entire bowl. Incidentally, I put out my trash and recycling early every Monday morning, and today I puffed away on this blend for the entire chore. Quite enjoyable. Also, it burns well! I didn't have to relight once!

Good old English standby
This is the standard by which all other English blends are measured. Always a good standby of you want your latakia fix any time of the day. Tin note :leather, smoke, spice. No toppings, just tobacco Smoked fresh, I don't have the patience to let it age. Pipe: briar Stanwell, Elliot, GBD. I must admit that my latest favourite English blend is Murray's 1 A Linfield, if you enjoy 965 you should like it to.

Not my taste
This was not to my taste. Others called the taste subtle, and I even read one review about aromatic? It tasted like when I smell smoke from my fireplace. The nicotine hit was strong, and although I am not a cigarette smoker, I assume this is similar to smoking a commercial cigarette.
5 out of 5
I like it
Subtle, easy going, and light. Not too much, not to little. I really like this smoke.
5 out of 5
Spicy, yet Mild?
Fantastic. Read the review on tobaccoreviews.com if you haven't already. tmoney has said it all already. It is somehow mild in the sense that your mouth isn't tasting latakia for three days afterwards, but it in no way lacks flavor. And the room note is tops. Compare it to a good Pilsner; great going down, doesn't hang with you all day.

Tasty blend to kick off your day
Giving this one full stars because it is exactly what it says it is: A good early morning blend. It is probably a bit stronger than the product description shows, in my opinion, and it is high on flavor. I really like the citrus-y little sting it has. The tin note is understated, but for a tobacco blend that is supposed to be a day-starter it is perfect.

Smoldering Kindling
The flavor is unbad, though not particularly good, either. It burns hot and imparts a strange flavor like smoldering kindling. The nicotine hit is also overly aggressive for my taste. My favorite thing about it might be the tin artwork, which is fantastic.

Great Smoke
Is a ribbon cut tobacco with a moderate strength. There is no flavoring detected in it but the taste Is very pleasant and the room note is what I would say Is somewhat pleasant but is sure tolerable. It has the right amount of Latakia and the Virginia base Is not in the least overpowering. For me, very pleasant to smoke, I rather enjoy it after an Evening meal.

Dunhill Early Morning Purchase
My first time with this blend and I find it most enjoyable. I usually pack my bowl with Early Morning when else? In the morning. It's a solid first bowl option any day of the week.

As the name implies, excellent in the morning
This tobacco is a bit of an enigma. In the morning, it's one of the first things I want other than coffee (which it pairs with excellently). It has a nice rich, smokey taste typical of an English but it's blended with some lovely sweet Virginias which keep things more on the mellow side. Not to say EMP is mild or weak tasting, it has a nice full body with plenty of creamy smoke. It is the perfect tobacco for that first pipe of the day. The enigma comes after that first bowl. Once coffee time is done and the day starts rolling, I don't want EMP at all. I smoked some in the late afternoon once and somehow it had lost its charm. I can't put my finger on how, but it just wasn't nearly as enjoyable. The next morning, though, it was back to being exactly what I wanted. I highly recommend EMP if you're a fan of English blends. There's no casing, no flavoring, just pure rich tobacco. It burns extremely well, rarely requires a relight, and all but disappears as it smokes.

Perfect way to start the day!
When I opened my first tin, I was caught off guard with how smoky it smelt - almost like a fireplace or a charcoal grill. I thought it was going to have quite a bit of bite, but it turned out to be perfectly mellow! It packs well, doesn't burn too hot, and stays lit all the way until nothing is left but a neat pool of ash at the bottom of my pipe. It became part of my morning ritual to go out to the smoke deck before my shift starts and smoke a bowl of this while watching the sun rise over the waves. I'm going to have to order another tin pretty soon!

A Great Way Wake Up
Dunhill's Early Morning is aptly named. It's a medium bodied traditional English blend that will go very well with your morning coffee. Those who are accustomed to English blends could smoke it all day without difficulty. It has a fine cut which makes it easy to light and easy to keep lit. Highly recommended.

Introbto latakia
My first delve into the world of latakia and im very pleased. Smooth smoke with a mild leathery, smokey, tobacco flavor. A good intro to latakia which im surprised I liked. Very strong smelling but pleasant smoking. I purchased this along with My Mixture 965 and Nightcap. Looking forward to trying the others. Actually Nightcap makes me nervous...lol

Very nice tobacco & a great price!
Very smooth/easy and relaxing tobacco. Not a real strong bite or aftertaste (which I personally prefer) and it has a good, continuous burn. I don't have to keep lighting it a hindered times. Smells great! The tin keeps it sealed tightly. I don't smoke a lot, so it's nice having a good tin that keeps the tobacco fresh, every time I open it. I like trying new tobacco's but this is one that I would definitely buy again. Recommended for sure!

If you don't like it at first, give it time...
EMP was my first attempt at an english. At first, I didn't like it at all; it smelled bad in the tin, the room note was smoky/spicy, and I had that after-taste for at least a day. I quickly turned back to my aromatics, but continue to give EMP another shot every weekend. Now I find myself looking forward to it. It is a much better smoke than any Aro I've had to date. The taste is complex and delicious if smoked slow. Not sure if I just finally learned how to smoke correctly or if my taste is changing, but this will definitely be my go to on the weekend (at least while I can still smoke outside).

If You Have Not Tried This Don't Miss This Opportunity!!!
Again like My Mixture 965, balanced and genuine, original in its own Legend. Best of the Best as the top sellers reflect.

Damn Good Stuff
The first time I smoked it was in a Brigham Mountaineer pot with filter I was working on the computer and it went out 2 times. . I then decided to try it in my new Royal Dutch Lumberman that I had only smoked once. . I really liked the flavor and it’s a mild tobacco, it smoked cool and has no bite. This is the tobacco I’ll use to break this pipe in. In a new pipe, and it burned down to a fine ash. Dunhill Early Morning just went to the top of my tobacco list.

Bland
I found this blend to be bland & over hyped. It burns fine, but doesn't leave anything noteworthy, aside from a mild smoky flavor.

A wonderful classic
For the seasoned piper who enjoys English blends, this is what I consider an icon. Always in my rotation.

Very Good Tobacco!!
This is the blend that got me into smoking English tobaccos. A fitting name as it is a mild tobacco and it's a good place to tart if you're new to English mixtures.

Should be Early Mourning
I found this blend to burn extremely hot, so hot in fact I can't bring myself to try another bowl to make certain it wasn't other factors. I really enjoy this brands Night Cap blend, for me anyhow a much better option.

first non aromatic I've tried
This is the first Latakia/oriental blend I've tried, first bowl was interesting, bit of a nicotine buzz. So I've been using a very small pipe to try and enjoy it, and I am really liking it-I light up one bowl right after the other. So I think it is a good place to start before moving on to a more English blend. The thing I don't like is that it has "room note" which just smells like somebody lit 10 cigarettes. It's worth a try though, so just go ahead and buy a tin.

smokes fine, weird smell
Upon opening the tin (I love the packaging) I was hit by its strange smell. It gave me a headache and I closed it right away. I later tried smoking it and it smokes fine. But the smell... chucked the rest.

My first English was E.M.P!
New to pipe smoking, I decided to purchase a tin of Dunhills Early Morning Pipe (E.M.P) as my first English. Either my palate is too inexperienced or this just didn't sit well with my taste buds. The flavor was not what I want first thing in the morning nor did I feel it pared with a cup of coffee well. However I've since found that I love Balkan style tobaccos and straight Virginas. I placed my unused portion of E.M.P in a jar and shelved it almost 5 months ago. I think I'll give it another try at 6 months and see if my tasted have changed! 5 stars for P&C though for the service they've delivered since I started my Piping journey!!!

Awesome intro to English blends
I am still relatively new to pipe smoking and I'm sampling different blends to try to find out what I really enjoy. I've been smoking mostly aromatics (like many beginner pipe smokers start out with). I have also tried 1 or 2 non-aromatics and my English blend sampling has been limited to the Frogmorton blends. I know Dunhill has a very good reputation among many pipe smokers so I wanted to give a couple of their blends a taste as well. Nightcap has a great reputation but it also has a reputation for being a very strong blend so I decided that it probably would not be a good first choice for me. EMP on the other hand is excellent, in my humble opinion. I am too new to pick out the subtle flavor nuances but overall I find it to have a excellent mild flavor. I could see this as being a all day smoke for some folks, but as for me I truly enjoy it as my first bowl of the day. I usually smoke it right after breakfast and it's a perfect start to a day of pipe smoking for me. The flavor is mild but very appealing to me. Out of the tin I got it was perfect. It packs easily, burns consistently, smokes cool and requires very few relights. Out of the several brands and blends that I have already sampled, I can tell that this one will be a keeper for me. If you too are new to pipe smoking and looking to expand your palate, I highly recommend EMP!

Great All Day Smoke
This an all day smoke for me, It does go really well with that first coffee of the morning, but it has enough flavour that I find it's becoming my go-to tobacco. I will definitely be getting this on a regular basis. Thoroughly recommend it.

My husband loves this tobacco and I love the great service!
Customer Testimonials
Dry, bright, and simple. After enjoying a half of a tin, here are my notes: Tin note: dry leather baseball mitt mixed mixed with fresh leaf pile. My tin was over a year old, and was much less sharp than when first purchased. The best part of the bowl was after the first 1/4th, after which it took on a warm, faintly sweet flavor reminiscent of fire-roasted corn husks. When not patient, I got mild tongue bite from this mix. Please note that the bite was nothing like a scalding Captain Black chemical burn some of you may relate to from your tobacco adventures. This blend was meant to be sipped, not chased. EMP mixed very well with a shandy or a mimosa. It hid a medium nicotine buzz, which I enjoyed. While the name demanded a morning smoke, I preferred it mid-afternoon, on a bright, sunny day. The room note never got rave reviews from my girlfriend, who described it as "smoky and dry, almost cigarettey at first, then turning cigarish." Please note that she has been spoiled by my aromatics (lol). Unlike my aromatics, I observed the taste and room note improved greatly over the course of a bowl. Great tobacco, perfect with a good cup of coffee

Until I got Dunhill Early Morning, I was mostly smoking aromatic blends. Since the first taste of Early Morning, though, this has become my "go-to" smoke. It seems like no matter what time of day, each bowl is perfect. If you're looking to get into English blends, this is probably the one to do it. It's not to harsh and offers the right amount of flavor. It packs quite well and smoke production are at the levels I prefer.
JS of Burrton, KS
Speaking as a (novice) fan of English blends, I think this is a great anytime tobacco as it tends towards the mild side. Excellent humidity right out of the tin and smokes perfectly dry. For a mild English, it certainly merits the hype.
EB of Philippi, WV
I wont try and describe the blend suffice to say it was very nice as the name imply s it is a nice morning smoke very smooth.
JL of Saint Petersburg, FL
I really wanted to like this tobacco. It has a nice nicotine kick, but I find myself a bit repulsed by the leather aftertaste.

Great first bowl of the day, I smoke it every morning.
RB of CHRISTOVAL, TX
This tobacco is great morning, noon or night. The taste is great and I will be ordering more soon.
KJ of Aiea, HI
EMP is a great light English to smoke at any time of the day really. This isn't to say that it is light in flavor but rather that it isn't a lat bomb. You certainly get a good taste of the lat but the orientals shine through for a really fine mixture from Dunhill.
TS of Bellefontaine, OH
Not a fan. It is way too smoky and spicy for me. I will stick with my Lane BCA, I love Cavendish.
MS of Austin, TX
This is a mild, smoky-sweet smoke. It smells great out of the tin and is great with a cup of coffee in the morning. I ordered more after my sample.
ML of New York, NY
This is my blend. Smooth, cool, smokey. Like a good scotch. I have been trying many brands and blends - sweet, fruity and non. Still trying to find about 3-5 blends to rely on. This is one of those go to must have tobaccos.
RM of Dallas, TX
This blend has great range. Pack it loose or tight its a nice mild smoke with English characteristics that fade in and out.Lovely stuff for anytime. There is an almost buttery finish about it for me at times..could just be me.
CB of Burlington, WI
When you find a good thing, you can't help but share. I stumbled upon EMP early my exploring of pipe blends, and it has settled into the #1 spot and is my "Go To" blend. I've had a tin somewhere for several years now. This blend is perfect for every use, but there is something magical about it when smoked in the cool of the morning hours outdoors. It's worth twice it's price or better in my book. Buy it!
BR of Sebring, FL
Brilliant tobacco, nice and light but still has just enough Latakia to give it a sturdy english feel. I'd highly recommend it!
TB of Smithfield, RI
I like this stuff, I haven't had the infamous Nightcap before, but this is what I settled for. I think it's good, it's not as light and mild as it may sound like it is, but it's not quite as strong and dark as some other latakia-based English blends as. It has sort of a dark and mysterious flavor to me, smoky and charcoal-like, not in a bad way though, it's not bitter or ashy or anything. I would say it could still make an all-day smoke, though. It's good.
BC of Monument, CO
Great blend. Smoky, mild spice and slightly creamy. Good anytime of the day. Has the spice and pipey flavors others tobaccos lack. I find myself using this to cut plum pudding and Mississippi River. It adds the burn and flavors those 2 Baccys lack. All around its a great blend, a must have.
JA of Greendale, WI
I was surprised that I actually kind of like this blend since I'm not too crazy about non-aromatics or English blends. It smoked nice and had a nice aroma.
BW of Pomona, CA
One of my fellow pipe smoking friends from pipe magazine .com gave me several baccies to sample. One was this product. I would say this is my go to smoke. I find it smokes cool and mild. My wife likes the earthly aroma it has. A great smoke anytime of the day, but especially "early morning."
