Very nice every time you open up the can you can smell the beautiful aroma. It’s very unique. Also unlike others that all smell the same you get a lot for your money. Also you don’t need to put so much in your pipe. Take it easy try it don’t take my word for it, you’ve gone back for more

From an old Frog Morton's lover - the best replacement I've found yet.
I am no pipe tobacco expert - my introduction to this world was in 2014 or so when a friend turned me on to Frog Morton's Cellar, which blew me away with its dank, sweet, lovely darkness. A few years later when I discovered this great website, I was disheartened to learn that FM had been closed down. The helpful support folks here recommended Bengal Slices as the best alternative. While I enjoyed Bengal Slices well enough, it was missing that special something. I then moved onto Dunhill Nightcap, which was and is an amazing smoke but without the rich sweetness of FM and with a pretty strong, unpleasant morning aftertaste. Neither of those tobaccos, however, compare to Plum Pudding when it comes to matching the memory I have of Frog Morton's. I have finally found something to fill that void and I can't imagine not having this one available either (please, Plum Pudding folks, don't make that come to pass). What I like best about this smoke is that it has the dark, sweet taste, once it gets going it's wonderful (takes awhile, though), and while it has a little bit of a sour, funky aftertaste, I can barely taste it the next morning, unlike Bengal Slices or Nightcap. It's truly the perfect blend for someone like me and I'm honestly a bit embarrassed I didn't discover it before now. I'm hooked and it will be my go-to for years to come.

Pricey, but worth it
Delightful smoke. Definitely has some uncommon tobaccos in the mix, so a different smoking experience. Significantly higher price than most other mixtures, so will not be my regular pipe full, but worth it for the occasional treat.

Got to try!
Very nice! This was my first departure away from aromatics (bored)! Read some reviews, watched YouTube and had to buy a tin! When I opened the tin and stuck my nose in ( at first I was shocked because I was getting cow manure and grass) But when I lit a bowl I fell in love with this amazing tobacco! Tastes smokey, earthy, spicy, grass, and a little sweetness! I would compare this to smoking a premium handrolled cigar! One of my favorite cigars is the Rocky Patel Sungrown Maduro, this tin smelled similar!

An "OLD MAN'S" thoughts on Bengal Slices
I am one of the very few original Bengal Slices smokers still puffing away. To set the record straight I am going on 91 years old and have been smoking a pipe for about 75 years. Drug store tobaccos like Sir Walter, Half and Half were the smoke of the day but I switched over to Sugar Barrel during my college years. And then out came Bengal Slices and I was hooked! It became my favorite Latakia blend and for years I alternated between it and Sugar Barrel...my aromatic favorite...and after years of smoking pleasure they both disappeared!! I was crushed! I never did find a Sugar Barrel substitute that matched the original in my opinion but when Fusilier hit the market I immediately bought a can and was very pleased. BUT when Pipes and Cigars got the original Bengal Slices recipe and except it being in a round can instead of the old square can it was, for my taste, the Bengal Slices that I remembered from days gone by! I don't try to describe all of the flavors in tobacco like the younger smokers do but after many years of smoking a pipe I know what I like and Bengal Slices still work for me. Now...if you can get a hold of the "original" Sugar Barrel recipe I can spend the rest of my years a very happy man!!

A Real Treat
This is a treat. I have one or two bowls per week. But when I'm craving this sort of kitchen sink complexity, nothing beats it (though C&D's Star of the East is kind of in the same zone). The crumble cake is easy to deal with but you have to be careful not to rub it out too much. And definitely don't eat it. You'll want to, but don't.

Good, balanced blend
Excellent pipe mixture. I sometimes use it alone in my pipe, but other times I mix it with Bengal Slices. Plum Pudding, despite the name, is a fine, balanced smoke, not too sweet, with little or no bite and a pleasing aroma.

Good stuff!
Plum pudding is a thick, rich, smoky blend that pleases your whole mouth. I am a newer pipe smoker and saw this blend reviewed everywhere. I knew I had to give it a try. Boy, am I glad I did. I know the newer barrel aged and special reserve are getting all the hype, but this original deserves a 5 star on its own. For me I had to sip to get all the nuances. I like a full bodied smoke and this blend provides. I can get a bowl hot trying to make smoke from a lighter blend so this one held me in check. I love it.

No BS!
I bought a tin of Bengal Slices in a P&C battle. I am a newer pipe smoker and am trying everything as fast as I can! This has a pleasant tin odor. It was easy for me to light and keep lit. I picked out the Orientals right away and they stayed the forward taste for me. The Virginia's are easier to taste and are more prevalent if you sip at it. If you puff hard this will get hot quick, as I learned. This is a wonderful smoke if you take your time. Lots of full smoke and great flavor. I'll be keeping some on hand.

Bengal slices wins
I have to go with Bengal slices as my pick for the battle, liked them both But for fun tried Maltese falcon in as well and that is the best of the three! Variety is the spice of life as they say

Plum pudding plum won it for me
Fun battle but clear winner for me. Plum pudding is an excellent smoke. I didn't age it or dry it just smoked and enjoyed it. I know this version is taking a back seat to the barrel aged but this stuff is great. Smooth, tasty, and full enough smoke to keep from choo-chooing. The Bengal slices are good but a lighter bitier smoke. Not as rich and full. It had a weedy taste the first quarter of the bowl but got better. The Orientals were the most forward taste for me. I liked it but up against plum pudding it swung an missed for me.

A Really Good Blend From Seattle Pipe Club
One of my first tobacco brands aside from a bulk aromatic that I am still enjoying on occasion, this blend delivers a great blend for my new, still learning palette. This blend delivers the sweetness one might crave after a good meal and would pair ever so well with a glass of bourbon. The special reserve variant of this blend is well worth cellaring. I find this blend to have a rich, smooth character with smokey notes worthy of reminiscent moods and light introspection, but prepare to allow yourself to be distracted by each puff as the flavors roll around and mingle with a pleasant room note.

Absolutely amazing blend
The anise topping is absolutely amazing. It's not overpowering but does get increasingly noticeable throughout the session. This blend is the predecessor to Balkan sorbanie (and caked) but Balkan sorbanie can't hold a candle to this in my opinion. Slowly becoming my favorite evening blend!

"They're GREAT!"
Love the flavor profile. I bought this with white knight and white knight is preferred by a small margin. It definitely has a unique top note that enhanced the flavor and smell of the Balkan style without diminishing it. I was concerned that the top note might take away from the flavors, and it did not at all. Great on a little puffer with a small bowl.

If not for the smooth charming tone of my peterson, I may not have taken to this blend. Fortuitous for the latter it had such a platform for representation. Just kidding, it’s pretty good.

Great Tobacco For The Enjoyment Of Life
I'm not a pipe tobacco aficionado, just a simple older guy who recently started smoking a pipe for one of those simple pleasures in life. This tobacco is pretty good from the first lighting of the tobacco to the bottom of the bowl; pretty consistent taste; no tongue bite for me. It definitely has a floral note with my taste buds, and I like it tremendously.

Wonderful blend
I received Bengal slices along with Plum Pudding and after several bowls each I can say I love them both. I began this pipe smoking journey a year ago and I’m still trying to determine what I do or don’t like. I’m moody, sometimes I feel like aromatic and sometimes I want pure tobacco. I smoke what I like when I want to. Since I’m new to this and have no Tudor I jumped off the cliff and just started learning about what I like. The anise top note is not that strong, however if you’re up for a little adventure, pair this with a sniffer of Ouzo and see what happens- wow! Not for everyone but fun to try. This tobacco is sure to satisfy. I like to leave it in big chunks and smoke it in a Savinelli Trevi 320KS. Enjoy!

Give it a shot
You’re doing yourself a disservice by not experiencing the magic that is plum pudding. Even if you’re not into English blends and are stuck on sweet aromatics I dare you to give it a shot. Probably my favorite tobacco. I save it for those special moments when I just really want to cherish what’s in my pipe. Combine this with a Savinelli and experience a moment of pure bliss. A lot going on in this blend but it smokes true the whole way through never losing itself. Haven’t found a blend yet personally that’s been the same from start to finish. Love it.

One of the greatest of all time
This is far and away one of my favorite blends and some days my absolute favorite. For an English blend with the amount of latakia this has the top note(anise) not only goes excellent with the flavor but makes it have one of the best room notes. A highly recommended blend

Repulsed by tin note, now can't get enough.
I'm relatively new to pipe smoking, but I have studied up quite a bit and had the pleasure of trying a fair number of tobaccos at this point. When I cracked this tin (one of my first non-aromatics) my stomach almost turned at the sour musty smell. Couldn't put my finger on it. But, I don't know why, I couldn't stop thinking about it. The smell was becoming more intriguing. I finally packed a bowl, and as I began to smoke it, the smell was still unpleasant, but oh man am I glad I gave it a chance. This is one of the fullest most comforting smokes I've ever enjoyed, and it was perfect sitting around a campfire under the stars after dinner. I'm finding that I've quickly come to love English stlye (well, Bulkan) Latakia blends, almost to the point of craving it. I now also enjoy the tin note, which still shocks me. It is campfirey like people say after you become accustomed to it.

As good as the hype!
Have just finished my first bowl after wanting to try this for a good while. Received a tin for Christmas and I couldn’t be happier. This lives up to the many positive reviews I’ve read. I will be making this a part of my daily routine. Thank you.

Loved It
This tobacco is incredible. I'm a newer pipe smoker (3 years), but, so far, this has to be one of my favorites. There are just so many different things going on, but it all comes together in a very tasty way. After I got the cake sufficiently crumbled apart, it burned nicely and required only a few relights. It's very cool on the draw too.

One of the Best
A really magnificent blend. Rich, mellow, with a hint of something in its flavor that I can never quite define but which definitely adds to Bengal's overall character. This is a tobacco that you can smoke all day, or save for special nights. Very little bite, and no harshness. I order it over and over.

This tobacco is just wonderful. Very complex flavor and aroma. The room note is like that of licorice but it has a mouth feel of milk chocolate. Perfect after dinner pipe tobacco. It's such a wonderful blend. Definitely up there on the desert island blend list.

Good change up tobacco.
Plum Pudding has a bit of a bite compared to my favorite Crooner. My wife, however, like the nice aroma of it. I like it for a change of pace occasionally but not for a steady diet. It burns fairly well and the Perique does give it a nice balance.

Bengal over Plum
Okay I am going to say it, despite the cursing and hatred involved, but I prefer Bengal Slices to the Plum Pudding. Don't get me wrong, plum pudding is a fine smoke, but the Latakia blending is so well balanced that the flavors become muted. When I smoke an English I like the woodsy leathery flavors of the blend to overwhelm the palate on the draw and the oriental notes to come through on the exhale. I am a fan of Count Pulaski from Sutliff and the Bengal reminds me of that.

A blast from the past!
New pipe smoker here and avid book reader and fan of old libraries (will circle back to this). I was smoking aromatics to start with and my local tobacco store (well in Phoenix, everwhere is vape) only had a few selections one of which was Cult Blood Red Moon. The store owner had very little knowledge of pipe tobacco and his supply was limited. So I took CBRM home packed my $25 starter pipe kit from amazon and was floored on how good CBRM was. I quickly jumped onto google and found Pipes and Cigars.com from which I then found out CBRM is one of the highest rated, if not THEE highest rated aromatic, I was shocked! I was so fortunate to stumble upon CBRM to introduce me into the piping world. Fast forward a month and I decided to dabble into english blends, and did some research and concluded Plum Pudding would be my next tobacco. I was uncertain how I would receive this and was not sure I would like it or not. At first puff, I again was floored. I am a huge fan of old rustic libraries and books. When you open an old book, the aged quality of paper really grabs you, this tobacco reminded me of just this! CBRM got replaced as my daily go-to. When I sit on my porch and open my book to read, I have a good full pipe of Seattles Plum Pudding and transported to an old english library with decades old books aged to wonderment. I ordered the Barrel Aged version and it is coming today. 5/5 stars easy!

As good as it gets, as far as I’m concerned. One of my two favorites right now (the other being Peterson Nightcap). Mid bowl, all those amazing tin notes show up (for me anyhow), and it’s really something special. It’s really just an amazing all around smoking experience unlike any other I’ve had so far.

Love it, love it, love it
Definitely one of my top 5 blends. The anise topping fades into the background quickly, leaving a rich yet accessible latakia/oriental smoke. Just enough cavendish to add a bit of creaminess to help round out the wonderful oriental funkiness and latakia smokiness.

This is perhaps one of the best mixtures ever and is by far my favorite tobacco to smoke! I was an aromatics only before I tried this beautifully balanced blend! If you are a Latakia fan and enjoy a smoky BBQ flavor and a party of many tobaccos in one bowl, this is for you!

I've never tried an English
I've never tried an English type tobacco. Well I thought I'd try this one. Plumb pudding is quite popular in England, so I tried this one. The first time I tried it I kinda thought, what the hell do I have here. Ah yes, the flavor grows on you quite fast. I do enjoy a bowel of this from time to time. The only thing is it will leave a ghost flavor. The ghost isn't too bad, a couple bowels of my go to tobacco scares that ghost away. I just took one of my Peterson pipes and dedicated it to this tobacco. I believe I'll be keeping some plumb pudding on hand. It's only right to smoke a Great Britain style tobacco, with a pipe made there. This is just another good tobacco from Sutliff. Give Ole Plum Pudding a try, you just may like it. I've smoked a pipe better than 40 years. This old dude says give the Plum Pudding its fair shot. It's right smooth, I haven't felt any bite and it's right taste

Plum dandy deal
Thanks P&C for the deal! After smoking each, same pipe and pack, I favor the Plum. Reasons? Taste, mouthfeel. Plum is delicious. I don’t know how they do it but 1st 1/2 of bowl is actually tangy. Not sweet. But definitely hits the back of you he with almost a citrus flavor. 2nd 1/2 is pepper and leather. More nutty. Bengal is excellent too! Must not my 1st choice. Much more mellow and consistent. I found myself puffing for more flavor. The Lat is prominent, and I found it to be more English. Very very good. Both are great, dry and cool in the pipe, each with its own satisfying notes. I he real winner? Me, for getting a great deal on two excellent tins. Thanks again!

A very nice tobacco!!
Seeing the slices in the can and how no matter how one stuffs their bowl, the 'mix' of this tobacco will come through. I find that, believe it or not, it tastes better in one of my Missouri Meerschaums. About halfway down, it really starts to shine and the sweetness comes through almost like a main dish. The 'English' of it though, is *always* there, so that no matter where you are, the bowl has a wonderful state and I would bet that non-smokers might not complain about it either. This is going to become one of my 'horde' tobaccos, heh, it's just that good.
5 out of 5
Both great
Both incredible tobaccos, and I'm glad to have tried them side by side. I do prefer the Plum Pudding over the Slices, though mostly for the topping added to Slices. They smoke similarly, with Pudding being barely sweeter and Slices having a slight bit more complexity. I look forward to trying the White version of Slices to see if that compares more similarly to Plum Pudding.

Pleasant Smoke
I am new to pipe smoking, so take this review as you will. I find this tobacco to be very pleasant, and plan on keeping this in my rotation. for the first third of the bowl, when sipping, I first get a nice hint of a cross between anise and molasses. To me the finish is of a light leather. I find this to be a smooth tobacco and have not experienced any tongue bite as of yet, however I do focus on slow small sips of my tobacco and exhaling though the pipe more often then not. I have three other english blends, and I like them all, and really can not compare them since they are each their own experience. I bought this one in a bundle when I bought plumb pudding and figured for an extra $5, why not? I do not regret the purchase and am glad I have another good tobacco in my collection.

I don’t know that English/Balkan
I don’t know that English/Balkan blends are going to be my favorites, though I am relatively new to piping. Maybe my palate will develop into liking more. This has a lot of raves though so I of course had to try. From what I can tell it is a great blend, however I could not give the 5 star based on my likes as they stand. I am looking forward to trying the barrel aged version as well down the road, as I am cellaring that one for a time.

Bengal Slices, no contest. Plum Pudding was a disappointment. Never had either one before and based on the reviews I expected a closer contest. Plum Pudding is weak and boring. Bengal Slices is not the best but has a much better flavor.

One of my favorite smokes
One of my favorite smokes it’s sweet, smoky, meaty, and the oriental provide a beautiful incense spice like cloves or allspice. People talk about this being a lat bomb, but I smoke a lot of lat so yo me this is the depth of flavor from a ballkan done perfectly

Plum Pudding , It is the one !
A continual pipe smoker for ages ! Stareted with the old favorites like Granger, Half & Half and Prince Albert . ALL good blends . But lately I began trying out some different ones , and there are many that are worth trying ! But after everything is said and done my nearing 80 palate has definately settled on the Seattle Pipe Club ---PLUM PUDDING ! t has all the delights anyone could expect in the well established tobacco blend ! It took me by surprise , but it is now my # 1 go to daily delight . Try it folks , and you WILL agree.

Get some slices of Bengal Slices
This mixture is amazing. It needs little drying time, burns great and is such a fun blend. It has tangy notes, little mushroom/ meaty notes from the Perique and in crumble cake form has nuance with each smoke. One of my new favorites in the rotation

First time smoking a tobacco
First time smoking a tobacco of this type. I’m generally an aromatic smoker, but I do enjoy non-aromatics from time to time. This mixture hits me with just the right amount of tobacco flavor that I’d expect from a good cigar. Overall I was pleased with this tobacco, and I look forward to more enjoyment from it in months to come.

Bengal Slices for the win
Both of these fall just barely outside of what I would normally purchase or reach to try but they get enough good press to eliminate any worry of buyer's regret after smoking. I started with Plum Pudding and found it to be an enjoyable smoke, after a handful of bowls I moved on to others in my stash and eventually got back to Bengal Slices. The smell in the tin isn't my favorite at all, it reminds me of old candy where Plum Pudding has a fruit smell that is very enjoyable. After the first 20 minutes of a bowl of Bengal Slices I was already sure it was the winner in this battle since there was no memory of a "wow" while smoking Plum Pudding but couldn't be sure until after a few more smokes and then revisiting Plum Pudding. Sure enough, the last two bowls were good but didn't compare. There's a richness to Bengal Slices that Plum Pudding doesn't have. Both are good blends that obviously earned their reputation but the Slices are what I'll restock down the road

Wonderful, one of my all time favorites!
This smoke is a wonderful experience. Im not so good at pulling out exact flavors but dang this stuff is enjoyable. I tend to stay away from aeromatics and and some english blends are gross to me. This is a well balanced experience with rich smoke that is not too hot, at times I experienced a sweetness and at other times during a retrohale I had a quite pleasant vinegar/ ammonia sensation. I know it sounds crazy! It was a unique sensation but to me it wasnt repulsive but rather quite plesant. I will definitely add this to my cellar.

As a Plum Pudding smoker
As a Plum Pudding smoker I was intrigued by Bengal Slices. I broke off a chunk and broke it into pieces, Peter it dry for a few hours and it lights up well. I noticed this needs drying time because it gets wet and it can be hard to stay lit otherwise. Unless I’m breaking it apart wrong. The taste is similar to plum pudding but there’s something more mysterious that I can’t pinpoint. Overall this tobacco is great and will be part of my permanent rotation!

2 great blends!
Let me start of by saying that I agree with the fact that both blends are great in their own way. These 2 are oriental forward english blends (balkan type - think Penzance, Balkan o.s.m or Star of the east/ Quiet Nights). I find the Plum Pudding more appealing (imo) as I find it to be a bit more consistent in terms of its flavors being well blended. The Bengal Slices are similar, but with the flavors popping out individually from time to time but with the anise/liquorice top not ever present but nowhere near overbearing (think War Horse Bar). I am biased towards the Plum Pudding and compare other "balkan" blends to it (even Penzance, I know ) however I do also keep Bengal Slices stocked regularly as well. Hope this helps, ymmv and to each his own. The battle deal is a good price point to be willing to try both if you've never had either... don't miss out on 2 great blends!

Perfect blend
One of the most complex and tasteful blends I have ever had, smooth and no bite.
4 out of 5
Very nice
Very good. Very mellow. In the larger, 2.5 inch depth bowl i packed, the latakia showed up first, then the oriental about half way down, with the rest of it sort of providing background jazz the whole way. I thought it was very tame until i got to the bottom of the bowl, where it pretty much backhand slapped me across the face. I can't say it takes my top spot, but good job here.

Just let it happen
I absolutely love this stuff and could smoke it all day long. I had heard so much about it and finally decided to give it a try. It's definitely a most excellent tobacco and I would totally stock my seller full of it except the price point is a little painful for that.

Now part of my new blend
When I first purchased this blend I liked it but it is pricy and have not reordered due the two ounce tin price. I did not find this blend to be an all day smoke but I did smoke on occasions. Having less than an ounce left in the tin I added Lane 1-Q at a ratio of one part Plum Pudding with one part Lane I-Q. Now I find this can be an all day smoke for me. Mixing these two blends I now have a more desirable combined price point for my new blend. It has a great room note with a new taint of vanilla. The Black Cavendish, Cavendish, Latakia, Oriental, Perique and Virginia along with the Lane 1-Q have a great balance with no dottle, no tongue bite and will burn nicely to a white ash with very few relights. It works for me and you might enjoy it also.

A great blend
A very nice oriental forward (balkan) type English blend with a great top note of anise/licorice. The top note is not overbearing, all the tobacco leaf comes through nicely. If you enjoy Plum Pudding or Quiet Nights, you may want to give this one a try...

Match Made in Heaven!
I would give 4.5 stars if allowed. This blend is a match made in heaven. If you like Latakia do not hesitate to purchase this tobacco; you will not be disappointed. Rich in flavor but no one tobacco is overpowering, however you will definitely notice the Latakia. There is a slight salty after taste from time to time. If your looking for something different (in a good way) give it a try!

Versatile blend
I like the overall flavor of the Bengal Slices. A lot of TLC went into this blend and very versatile overall. I personally could wake up and smoke this one as opposed to Plum Pudding for evenings only. Complex, robust yet mellow. Smell and room note are there. Would be interested in the other versions of this as well.

Summer blend
If you like Bengal Slices but need double the punch, go with plum pudding. Very complex, flavor grows on you but more of a summer spicy barbeque blend to me. Quality and flavor are there. Probably not a regular smoke for me but I can appreciate it for what it is.

Plum Pudding is Plumb Fascinating
I figured when I received my first tin of Plum Pudding well over a year ago, it would be a dried fruit tasting, gross over exaggeration of flavor. Then I got it. OH WOW. Instead it is a journey through the depths of bbq and other smoking flavors that culminates in a perfect smoke for the newbie or the veteran smoker. This is a tobacco that I enjoy to smoke when I am firing up my charcoal grill and getting ready to throw some ribeyes on there. The flavors that I smell and taste are a perfect complement. Between this and the special reserve, YUM.

How does one choose between heaven and heaven?
Holy, high god of tobaccos, please don't make me choose between these. Both are exceptionally phenomenal. Bengal slices with it's delicious topping and similarity in softness and sweetness to Plum pudding. Plum pudding with it's deep, dark and deliciously soft smoke. I can't choose I just can't, I love these both and will be purchasing more of both in the future.

As a new pipe smoker, I was having a difficult time finding a blend that really stood out for me. I was contemplating if I would even continue with a pipe at all.....until I tried plum pudding. I love this complicated tobacco
A lot of moving parts in this one. Takes patience and about 1/2-2/3rds of a bowl to reach full development. I recommend the slowest tempo you can possibly do using the breathe method. As you maintain a cool smoke, and a constant amount of smoke in your mouth without fully expelling, and an occasional retro-hale, all the different tobaccos will take a turn and eventually combine into something great. Smoke it too fast and you’ll have a bowl of peppercorns to deal with; and wonder why anyone would this smoke spicy manure with any pleasure. Cheers!

A Great Soap Flavored Tobacco
I finally put my finger on the taste of this tobacco. It’s like smoking a bar of cheap soap. The taste is so pungent that half way through the bowl your mouth and throat are coated with a soapy film that even water won’t wash away. So if your the sort of person who likes drinking used bath water, this is the tobacco for you. Enjoy!

Mediocre
This tobacco was okay. It has a unique flavor that is hard to identify, which is ultimately too strong in the end. Bengal Slices is one that I’ll keep in the drawer and smoke occasionally. It’s certainly not in my regular rotation.

Like no other
Amazing tin note. Smells slightly like red man and mosquite barbecue. Reminds me of lodge pole pineand sage brush burning together, mixed with a tangy sweet citrus note. Very stunning room note, and flavor. Smokes VERY cool and smooth in a missouri meech huck fin pipe. Sutliff voodoo has such a similar tin note, i believe it might be the spare trimmings. Sutliff fox and hound has a similar scent and flavor, with a very different balance, much more of the sharp virginia taste and less of the smoky accent is found in the fox and hound. Fox and hound always gives me moderate to severe tongue bite after half a bowl, feel like i could smoke bengal slices all day with no tongue bite

Lat Bomb Perfection
Bengal Slices is the perfect lat bomb. The latakia is by far the main player in this blend; it is rich, smokey, and strong. There is a topping that remains consistent throughout the bowl, which to me tastes like the topping on Peterson’s University Flake. University Flake consists of extremely high-quality and well-balanced tobacco which does not require a topping, in my opinion. The topping doesn’t ruin that tobacco, but it just kind of hangs out and does its own thing. It’s like candy; you consume it for its own sake. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with candy, but I’m not a big fan of it. Bengal Slices is different, however. The topping serves to refresh the palate and prevents the latakia from becoming tiresome. I can smoke a large bowl of it slowly and enjoy every puff. I’ve tried countless blends, and this stuff easily makes my top 10 list of favorite tobaccos—perhaps even my top 3 list. It has become my solid favorite latakia blend (it beats my previous favorite, Squadron Leader, by a mile; it is on par with G.L. Pease’s Key Largo, but I consider that to be more of a cigar leaf blend as the cigar leaf comes through at least as much as the latakia). To make a long story short: Bengal Slices is wonderful, and I highly recommend it.

I really liked this tobacco. I got it along with Plum Pudding and I think I prefer the Bengal Slices over PP. I'm not sure how to describe the flavor notes other than really great to me. I get a touch of the Anise. I'm just struggling to put a finger on the flavor notes. If you like things like Plum Pudding, Haunted Bookshop, Habana Daydream and the like - I would say you owe it to yourself to give this a try. I took mine out of the tin and put it in a mason jar for a couple weeks and I think that made it even better.

Great smoke for Aromatic and Non-aromatic smokers
This is definitely one of my top five blends and is in my rotation. This non-aromatic has so much flavor and things going on. All of the components are blended in such a way that non are overpowering. I like Latakia only when it is used to mellow out other tobaccos and in Plum Pudding it is a great asset. The nic-hit is less than medium and will not give your stomach the rumba. The room note is fine, but don't expect raves. Once the tobacco gets lit and stays lit, it has few relights. It doesn't burn hot or bite, but I smoke at a leisurely pace. It has a good aftertaste. This is such a nice smooth smoke that is a perfect lay back and relaxing experience. Plum Pudding may be my favorite smoke, but there are so many great tobacco blends to choose from. Whether you are a Aromatic or Non-aromatic smoker, you can't go wrong with this Balkan blend. Highly recommended.

An exemplary balkan blend
This blend comes in thick slices, feels a bit dry but smokes perfectly for me. Break it up roughly, and pack it loose, and get ready for an incredibly fine-tuned and balanced flavor of earthy, smoky, sweet, sour, a little hint of spice, with a deep body. For me the smoke leaves a very rich and pleasant aftertaste. This is my new favorite smoke.

I'm new to pipe smoking,
I'm new to pipe smoking, having smoked aromatics and wanting to try something different, I bought both of these blends as a deal bundle after hearing good reviews on both tins. Both PP and BS are similar in how they taste but their are slight differences. In PP, their is a dry fruit top note and after lighting a few bowls, the flavor takes on many different layers of fruit, and has a slight peppery note (probably the perique?) In BS there is a anise, clove-ish top note but it is not very prevalent after lighting a bowl, the flavor like PP, tends to be complex and instead of taking on the dry fruitier notes like PP, there are slight citrus notes that play a part in the blend and a slight clove taste. Both blends crumble easily and are very enjoyable. I find are best smoked after a long day at work or before going to bed. The nicotine strength in both blends isn't too strong like others may be. However, it is mild and is balanced. The only cons I can find is that BS is slightly harder to keep lit but it may be due to me just still learning on smoking a pipe. I also advise that these blends shouldn't be smoked on quickly. Take your time smoking these blends, or you will risk getting an unpleasant aftertaste from burning out the tobacco too quickly. If you like finding and picking apart rich and complex tobacco blends or want to delve into something different from the usual, I'd highly reccomend checking out these two tobaccos. You really can't go wrong with either one.

Complex Blend, See if it's Right for You
I'm working on my 3rd tin of Plum Pudding and I still go back and forth on it. It'll always be in my rotation, don't get me wrong, but do I LOVE it? Some days I think "my god this is a truly sophisticated and incredible blend--totally worth the price." Other days it won't stay lit, the flavors are unruly and unbalanced, and I simply can't seem to figure out what I enjoyed about this blend in the first place. It's an ever-lasting gobstopper of smoking experience and I do recommend it to everyone at least once. See if it's right for you.

This is NOT a negative review.
Honestly, the first time I tried this I thought it tasted like body odor. I almost threw it away. Then I tried a bowl of Early Morning Pipe and I really liked it. It had a mellower version of that flavor. I decided to give plum pudding another try. I LOVE Plum Pudding now. I dont know what happened. I can't stop thinking about how much I love this flavor. My description of it sounds very negative, but it isn't. It really reminds me of body odor, bicycle inner tube and leather gloves. It doesn't sound good from my description but it has become probably my favorite taste ever. I feel like a jerk because I really love this blend and I know I'm not conveying that well. Give PP a shot and if you don't like it give it one more try. It took 2 bowls for me to fall in love with this, but I am hooked. I absolutley love it.

I didn’t understand what all
I didn’t understand what all the fuss was about until I finally gave it a try. I’m so glad I did. This is the most satisfying tobacco I’ve smoked in the last 6 months. It’s superb tobaccos are delicious, smoky, spicy all at the same time. I especially like the Latakia and oriental mix. Perfect blend that burns slow and nice. It’s aroma is so pleasing and addictive.

Bengal slices is sweet with
Bengal slices is sweet with a complex yet subtle sour note. It smells wonderful in the tin and even better when smoking. The room note is pleasant and distinctive. It’s a great tobacco to sip slowly. Sweetness is noticeable but balanced with the other notes of spice and raisin. Excellent. So glad I finally tried it.

This aptly named blend recalls delicious flavors of spices like clove, nutmeg, and allspice, along with its sweet aroma of dried fruits.

Now at the top of my favorites list!
Wow. I read a few reviews singing the praises of this tobacco and the way it was described, I had to try it. The first few puffs after the initial char light made me think, this is good, perhaps not exceptional. After relighting and all the way to the bottom of the bowl, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is truly a delicious, smooth, cool burning product. The smoke is rich and flavorful with absolutely no tongue bite. I'm hooked!

Pure pleasure in your pipe
Oh wow! This is quite possibly the finest blend I've ever smoked. It checked every box.

Great blend
This is just aromatic enough and smooth enough to enjoy any time of the day, either straight or blended with something else 50/50, like Cult Conspiracy. The only problem with Bengal Slices is that I seem to go through a can about twice as fast as the other, looser blends. Not Bengal Slices' fault though; the company actually packs a couple of ounces MORE tobacco in the can than the 1.75 oz advertised. So buy two cans at a time and enjoy!

The hype is real!
This has been the only tin I’ve bought twice. I taste something different every time I zen out with this. Great balance of flavors and tobacco types. I highly recommend.

Really good
Very smooth with a good balance of Latakia. Slightly smokier than Plumb Pudding. No tongue bite.

Top Notch
What can I say that has not been said of SPC Plumb Pudding. Everything about it is pure smoking bliss. Not an everyday smoke, but a treat when you get a break from all life throws at you. There is a reason this is held in such high regard, quality. Recommended.

Mellow
Great mellow English that can be an all day smoke. Quality Lat that is not overpowering. Delivers a clean smooth and consistent flavor throughout. Pick some up, you will not be disappointed.

REALLY GOOD
I am new to pipe smoking so when I opened plum pudding I was not expecting such a smoky tin note. When I begrudgingly loaded my first bowl and started to coax the first few flavors from my char light I almost had to check which tobacco I had loaded up. The smoke was not smoky, It was delicate and complex. There are so many flavors you taste individually and simultaneously. It was a very pleasant surprise. I could not wait to try Bengal Slices next and enjoyed it just as much. Bengal has a slight taste of Ouzo(Anise) in the smoke. If I had to choose a favorite the answer would be different each day. They are both GREAT!

Wow.
Love this tobacco so much. As soon as I opened the tin, I knew I was going to love it. Complex and rich, this tobacco creates a very satisfying smoke with a depth of flavor I wasn't expecting. This is now an easy choice for my go-to smoke.

A great component for blends
I can't compete with other users' reviews; I don't have the lingo. When I received my first tin of Bengal Slices and stuffed some into my pipe and puffed on it, I was blown away. I love this stuff! I can't explain it, but it has an almost magical flavor. I detect some anise it, which is one my favorite flavors. However, I do not use it straight; I use it as an additive to blends I make containing Virginias and other blends to spice them up.

Perfectly balanced, hint of sweetness
As a pretty "no fuss" occasional pipe smoker (a couple times per month) I am just as happy smoking something like Captain Black as I am anything else. But, given all the hype surrounding this blend, I thought I'd give it a try. On a positive note, all the different tobaccos that are in this blend are all extremely well balanced. You can taste just about all of them, but none really steal the show. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sweetness coming likely rom the cavendish component, again perfectly balanced. Tastes great. There are fewer negatives than positives, but it was a little tough for me to keep it lit. It's a little pricier than your average tin. And finally, with all the hype I was honestly expecting a little better - is it a great blend? Yes. Is it the best like the hype would have you believe? Probably not. Overall - complex, perfectly blended, and pleasantly sweet. Pick a tin up if you get the chance, but don't feel like you're missing out if you don't!

Very nice, but "Trout Stream" s still #1
Well, I'm one who prefers aromatic tobacco -the flavors of caramel are tops in my book. That said, the Bengal Slices are pretty good as regular tobacco goes. I do like a bit of Latakia with my Cavendish, plus, the orientals are nice. It's a pleasant change for me.

If you like a balkan style tobacco, try it.
I will make this simple: if I was a castaway on an island I would want crates of this stuff with me. It is that good. A rich, satisfying english style smoke, I am adding to my stock of it.

Plum pudding for the win
When I'm in the mood plum pudding is great, it gets 4 stars. Bengal slices aren't that good to me. They taste somewhat similar but the sour taste at the end of the plum pudding is what wins me over

A craving panacea
In the last 3 months I've bought $180 worth of pipe tobacco from this website (not one type over 3oz) to learn learn as much as I could, about what I like. This may seem extreme, but I'm trying to replace my cigarette addiction. This is the best one so far. Iv'e dabbled with pipes for years, but only occasionally. This is a home run for me. Thanks Russ! Fiddlesticks is great too, but this one is so good it makes me forget where my cigarettes are.

2 Champions
Both smoke and taste great. I would describe their taste as the following- bengal slices is 50% leather 25%campfire smoke 25% earth. Plum Pudding is 60%campfire smoke 20%earth and 20%leather. At first I thought Pudding was the flavor for me. But as time went by, turns out I was reaching for the Slices and it was gone before the pudding. Both excellent smokes though for fall/winter/early spring. If had to pick 1 though, I think id go with Bengal Slices as the winner

Both are exceptionally good in flavor. Only slight difference between the two is the Plum Pudding has a notably mellow smoke where the Bengal slices are a bit more on the milder side.

Deep, rich, and a new favourite
Okay, so I've been smoking a pipe for about a year now, and I have previously gravitated to mostly VA and VaPer blends, though I found I love some English blends like Petersons Old Dublin and Ashton's Consummate Gentleman. I didn't quite know how I feel about Latakia until this morning, this is on a whole new level. It is deep and rich and this blend has to be the smoothest English style blend I've tasted yet. I'm definitely adding this to my rotation.

Not a connoisseur but also not a drug store blend fan, this crumbles, burns very well, top note is subtle and very enjoyable, I prefer to smoke this nice and slow inside somewhere so the drafts/wind don't detract from the aroma. As good as it gets folks.

A single malt smoke...
When I first popped the tin, at first I was cautious - the smell reminded me of Drum Halfzware rolling tobacco, which always left a foul aftertaste in my mouth when I was still a cigarette smoker. Then I crumbled up a slice, rubbed it out a little, and packed it into a big cob... Ho. Lee. Crap. Plum Pudding is delicious. I like it more every time I smoke it. The sheer complexity of the flavor is phenomenal, and I can only compare it to an good single-malt Scotch. It’s like puffing on a slice of well-smoked brisket and a dark chocolate brownie in the best possible way. Might be my new favorite. If you haven’t tried it yet, do. Just. Do.

One of my all-time favorites
I was probably a little late to the bandwagon, but Plum Pudding is definitely one of the top 5 tobaccos I've smoked. I stocked up on a few tins of it, so hopefully it will age well. I'll definitely be coming back and buying more and more of this!

great blend
wow, what an interesting smoke. in my opinion it has some qualities (flavors) similar to plum pudding or sutliff krumble kake english blend, but with a similar (if not same) top note as war horse bar (red) - sort of an anise type note. it is a great blend in its own, consistent and well balanced. definately worth a try if you you enjoy english/balkan type blends

Saw the ads in your catalog and decided to give this blend a try. It is great! Just as advertised, it is a unique English blend with an amazing top note. Smooth, smoky, flavorful with what I think is a great aroma. Already ordered a few more tins. This blend is really a must try for smokers of English or Balkan blends.

This tobacco gets better and better the more I smoke it. I love the changing taste and the crumbling flakes. It's my second all-time favorite tobacco and I keep bunch of it cellar-ed. This is a unique tobacco that everyone should have in their rotation.

Plum Pudding Wins the Battle! Both Are Too Notch Blends Though!
Both delicious blends. Plum Pudding has more flavor punch though for sure. They taste about the same flavor wise, with maybe more depth to the Plum Pudding as well. Plum Oudding wins the battle, but they are both delicious blends.

Not my favorite but very tasty
I bought this mississippi river and pp special reserve all at once, i rather enjoy this blend its very intense and has numerous complicated flavors that my palette is simply not developed enough to pick out just yet but it is tasty. It smokes pretty cool and dry although needed a bit of drying time for me. The special reserve I'm gonna leave unopened to age for a year or two although im sure that's going to be difficult.

Man, what a homerun with my first online purchase of pipe tobacco!!!
I am still quite the novice, however I find my taste is solidifying towards English and Baltic blends. What I find pleasing about this blend is that the taste is layered compared to other Baltic blends I have tried. If Plum Pudding were a beer, it would be a complex IPA. The tobacco is a little spicy up front and mellows as you smoke through it. It leaves an awesome aftertaste in my mouth when I have finish the bowl (I have never experienced this from smoking any tobacco before). My only complaint is that Plum Pudding tends to be a difficult initial light up if I don't pack the bowl perfectly. It is the standard for me by which I compare other English and Baltic blends.

All day smoke
Nice mellow smoke. Easy to smoke all day long.

Perfection
This will become one of my regulars. Flavor is very complex and changes as you go down the bowl. I had no problem keeping it lit and leaves very little dottle. Straight out of the tin, it wasn’t too wet or dry. It’s a very relaxing smoke with a decent nicotine hit; wouldn’t recommend as a morning or early afternoon lunch. Perfect for after work or before bed.
5 out of 5
Complex
I get a different taste marriage with every new bowl. The Latakia is not strong like the description would have you believe. Cool burning. No tongue bite. Thick smoke. It's kind of addictive. Slightly sweet, a little spice. The more you smoke, the more you'll like the complexity.
5 out of 5
A Sublime Smoke!
It's either this or Bengal Slices as my top Latakia blend. I'm trying to cellar as much of both as my budget will allow as I find this and Bengal Slices as the only two tobaccos I wish to regularly smoke. Let it be known that I am not an all day pipe smoker, only having a bowl or two each evening after dinner. However, these two blends are what I crave each evening, they are just that good!
5 out of 5
Delightful Smoke!
Latakia blends are my favorite tobaccos by far, as well as an occasional bowl of pure Latakia (Pipes & Cigars Blending Latakia being my choice). Bengal Slices is my side by side favorite with SPC's Plum Pudding for a Latakia blend, it's really just a matter of what mood I'm in as for which I will reach for!

MUST HAVE MORE!!!
I used to stay clear of English blends because of some earlier, absolutely horrible experiences with Lakeland aromatics. But then I tried this as part of “Saved by the bell”. I’m in awe of this masterpiece. It’s almost literally on my mind every day. I’ve caught myself up at 3am, smelling it in the can. I can’t say enough good things about this stuff in 2000 characters. I only have two complaints. It’s kind of expensive and the can doesn’t seal very tightly so you have to stay on top of your humidification. But I’m just nitpicking.

If you’re willing to wait
Tin aroma is amazing, presentation is gorgeous, flavor when fresh is just like hot air, BUT, after about six months something amazing happens to this blend. A solid core of tobacco flavor with a little something extra that’s hard for me to put my finger on has developed. Bought this as part of “Saved by the bell”.
4 out of 5
A very fine and pleasant experience.
I really enjoy this blend when it comes up in my rotation. I was sold on Bengal slices from the first inhale of anise and sweet smoke. It came with just the right amount of moisture: I only had to rub it out and let it sit for a few minutes and it was perfectly packed and smokable. It has the same characteristics as another similar crumble cake, SPC Plum Pudding, though to my tastes a little less intense and with the added licorice/anise notes. I think it is a superb smoke. I'll definitely be ordering more when I get down to my last few pieces.
4 out of 5
Very Nice
Great Latakia-forward blend. The Cyprian is sweet and plays well with the orientals to give a nice cedar/incense note. The Perique gives a tiny bit of pepper and prune/raisin taste in the background, and the Cavendish quietly blends everything together and smooths it all out. It’s a medium-bodied blend in terms of taste, and could be an all-day smoke for some. The nicotine level is fairly mild.
4 out of 5
Hesitant at first
Tried it on a recommendation from a YouTuber. It was a bit harsh right out the tin, so I let it dry out for awhile, what a difference, much more mellower and flavorful. Nice room notes, could taste the different types of tobacco. It didn't disappoint, going to cellar the rest for a couple of years see if it will improve in quality and taste. Goes good with the morning coffee or a satisfying dinner. Would highly recommend it.

My New Favorite English
I’d heard numerous pipe smokers singing the praises of Plum Pudding and decided to try it recently. It’s already edged out Dunhill Nightcap as my favorite English, and not just because Dunhill is no more. It’s a nice, bold, sweet smoke with a bit of a floral note of some sort. Tastes and smells divine!!!

Wonderfully complex
I will caution you...I know nothing about pipe tobacco except for some of the basics so if you are looking for a review to help you make up your mind then this is not the review for you. That being said I found Plum Pudding to be a deep rich and satisfying smoke. I thought that my Scottish Breakfast tea went really well with it. Definitely can detect the Latakia presence.

Time machine tobacco?
This tobacco has the most intriguing smell that has kept my wife and I doing our best to pinpoint, but the only thing we can agree on is that it smells 'old', as in from many years ago, not a criticism of the tobacco's age! The taste is unusual, complex, rich and pleasant. It also seems quite strong, my first small bowl gave me a nicotine rush. I'm awaiting a new AristoCob to really test this blend properly but that damn smell, what does it remind me of? The closest I've got so far, is a British Railways carriage compartment during rush hour. Its a smell that reminds me of smoking rooms in a private mens club, other memories of a similar bygone age are evoked. Best I can do chaps.

Good dessert like flavor modest nicotine content
I am a Mac barren bold Kentucky and old dark fired fan so this one is a little settle in the nicotine department. With that said the taste is quite good and sweet almost like pudding lol. It's easy to crumble up and load and it smokes at a pretty good humidity level straight out of the van although it could dry out a bit too be better. This isn't on the same page for me as bold Kentucky but it's not bad either. I don't see myself buying another can but that doesn't mean you won't love it I can E why a lot of people do like it. I'm just a bigger fan of the fire cure Kentucky blends myself with loads of nicotine and strong Maduro style flavoring

A Trip to Flavor Town!
This is my first crumble cake, and what a delight it is! It is complex, clean, smokes cool, burns to fine gray ash, and has a pleasant room note. It is suitable for most of my pipes...not just the ones I reserve for latakia blends. I have to remember to pack lighter than normal, but the smoke is long, flavorful and pleasant. It goes into my rotation, for sure.

My new favorite. A rich smooth smoke. All day enjoyment!! I love it.
4 out of 5
Excellent! The only reason I
Excellent! The only reason I submit a four and not a five is that I do not see Plum Pudding as an all day smoke. That said, all other considerations work together to put this blend on the top shelf for sure. Tin note; rub; lightability; burn; room note; finish .... a genuine treat. "Plum Pudding " strikes me as a misnomer. True, it is smooth, as is pudding; it has a certain sweetness, as does pudding.....but, "Plum"? How about " King's Choice " or something like that? Names aside, this blend is just the right amount of latakia and perique. The sweetness of the Virginias is not obscured but is augmented nicely by the exotic character of the latakia and just the appropriate measure of perique. Through the nose, Plum Pudding produces a pleasing pinch ; for the tongue, there is plenty of zest. Personally, I find ginger tea to be a nice accompaniment. Pudding is full enough and lively enough to warrant no more than a medium sized pipe ..... perhaps a large one in the open air. Plum Pudding is a must!

Pleasantly Surprised
As a somewhat new pipe smoker I have found a few very nice well known and exclusive blends here at P&C. They have all been aromatics. I seem to favor the aromatics tobaccos. But I did want something that was not in the same family as the sweeter aromatics and have been trying a few non-aromatics and english blends. I was completely surprised by how nice bengal slices are. A wonderful full bodied but mild smoke. Delicious flavor not overpowering at all. The smokey notes are just right. There something else that I can pick up on but not sure exactly what it is but it is very nice. So far this is only non-aromatic that I have tried that smokes great right down to the bottom. Smooth with no bite whatsoever. This is really a wonderful tobacco. Most definitely will keep this on hand.

Great tobacco
This, along with Plumb Pudding were my two first latakia heavy blends. I would say this is just as good as PP, but not quite as complex. Quite smokey, but even as a new pipe smoker, not overwhelming by any means. I would certainly recommend.

Holy cheese Louis. This is the best 'Battle of the Blends' to ever exist in the history of the known universe. These Tabascos are truly marvelous. I know it's tobacco, but I say Tabasco. Big deal. Wanna make something out of it? Go ahead; call the cops. They're not gonna do anything about it. Last I check this was still 'Murica. I also know that it's jeez Louise, not cheese Louis. Again, 'Murica.

The Proof is in the Pudding
I have to say right up front that I prefer aromatic pipe tobaccos. However, Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding is a pleasant and enjoyable non-aromatic smoke. The little bit of Latakia in the pudding, gives the tobacco a little zip, and I have to admit I kind of like the taste of Latakia.

First few bowls I really was not getting the full experience, the flavors just were not there. Finally I set a pipe full aside on a paper towel in the morning and smoked it at night. One of the best blends I have ever smoked hands down! Completely worth the money and lives up to the hype, I am satisfied.

Mellow and satisfying.
This is a mellow and satisfying tobacco, but my only reservation is that the name is misleading. "Plum Pudding" sounds like something aromatic, which it is not. It is basically an English.

Consistently good
This is a great, balanced, aromatic blend that's easy on the tongue, smokes clean and is good all day and into the night. It crumbles easily and mixes well with other blends in case you want to experiment. A go-to smoke for any occasion.

Bam!
Whenever Emeril Lagasse would want to pick it up a notch he would go spice it up with flair. For me that is what Bengal Slices are. I have found that putting a little Bengal on top of almost any other tobacco makes it new and interesting. By itself it can be too much for me. Topping off other tobaccos is where it shines for me. I highly recommend.

Great blend
This blend definitely lives up to the hype. It's got a great flavor that's unique and neither overbearing nor underwhelming. Would recommend trying it out to see for yourself it's definitely worth the price per tin.

Normally I smoke heavy English/Oriental
Normally I smoke heavy English/Oriental blends with lots of latakia. My other tobacco is Virginia/perique. This was likeable but certainly different. Unlike most blends that I try occasionally, I probably will buy some more of this one.

Awesome tobacco
This tobacco is some of the best that I’ve smoke. It’s a very smooth and relaxing smoke.

Phenomenal!!!
Man this stuff is good! I'm not a huge fan of Cavendish but the Cavendish in this has a way of complimenting the taste. I was hesitant of buying this because i never seem to like tobacco that's usually very hyped up. I guess my taste is just different than most. But man this stuff is GOOD! like I'm honestly blown away. Even the after taste is good.

Two fine English Blends, but the Plum Pudding seems to've aged better
I became a convert to English blends a while back after enjoying some of the fine offerings from S. Gawith and McClelland. This sampler contains two excellent examples of the style. In the spirit of the "battle of the blends" I have tried to pick a favorite and settled on Plum Pudding for that; however, my margin for that decision was razor-thin. Both of these are fine English blends. I will say that the Bengal slices were a touch dry and tended to crumble when rubbed out but that may have been just luck of the draw. In any case it is nothing a bit of humidity won't fix. Again, two fine English blends here to spend a good deal of time taking your time to decide on.

SECOND FAVORITE
A little more Latakia than my favorite Mississippi River, but makes for a change when you want something a little more smokey. Joe just doesn't make a bad blend. As with Mississippiu River a little more expensive but worth every cent.

Bengal slices
Very smooth, subtle notes of sweet and spice. Not one tobacco seems to overpower the other. Even burning, and did not experience any tongue bite. Would buy again and would recommend.

For all you old timers..this is it!
I've been smoking a pipe on & off since 1966. When some of my favorite brands "went away" in the past (Bengal Slices, the original John Cottons, etc) I migrated more toward cigars because I couldn't find anything that hit all the right buttons in the tobacco that was available. I heard that Bengal Slices and some of my other old favorites had been re-created, and I excitedly tried them all... they were pretty good, but not quite what I remembered. After reading some reviews about Bengal Slices, someone mentioned Plum Pudding, so I decided to give it a shot... there it was; that elusive "something" I had been missing from the Good Old Days....and probably better! I immediately ordered an 8Oz can and a 4oz can of the Plum Pudding Reserve! If you are a lover of the old English blends (especially Balkan Sobraine's offerings), don't hesitate to try Plum Pudding. I'm a happy camper :)

Bengal Slices
One of the top full mixtures I have smoked in my 38 years of piping. Since I don’t have a golden pallet that can pull apart all the components One by one,I’ll just say the finished product as a whole is above average.

Great tobbaco
One of the better tobbaco that I have tried it does suck that everyone is sold out but Bengal slices are a close match but in my opinion not as good as the plumb pudding

I really enjoy this pipe tobacco. The blend is already delicious but while you smoke it you get a creamy note also.

Believe the hype because Plum Pudding is for real!
Outstanding English blend. This is the only review I have ever written, but I just had to compliment this blend. Many blends get built up by hype and the momentum carries them to the best seller list, but Plum Pudding is FOR REAL. If you like English blends, please give this one a try. It was a little damp when first opened, but a little drying time is ALL it needs. Happy piping my friends!

Great afternoon smoke!
Love the taste of Latakia in this blend, it’s a great taste. The oriental, Virginia, and cavendish all work really well with the Latakia. The aroma of licorice is also present in this blend and might I say, great blend. I recommend it, a late after dinner smoke.

My thoughts on Bengal Slices.
First 2 x smoking this all I tasted was floral notes. Packs well and smokes long. I am not getting it. So far not a favorite. But time will tell.

Tasty
Having never tried Bengal Slices prior to this iteration, I have nothing to compare the current one to. Having gotten that out of the way, I am thoroughly enjoying this newest edition. Just enough Latakia to bring the smokiness I crave, but with a sugary plum/raisin flavour that I find delicious. Recommended.

Top Shelf all the way
Off the bat let me say that this is one very special tobacco blend that any English lover simply must try. From the tin art, to the tobacco appearance, to the very thick cut slices, to the very very mild but extremely interesting top note, this is a one of a kind blend that simply should not be missed. It is very definitely English but definitely not just another English. It is unique and is like a top shelf whisky (or whiskey if you prefer) that is worthy of savoring and enjoyed on special occasions. Like most English blends, this is Latakia forward, but the Latakia is not overpowering to the point that it overshadows the other component tobaccos. You can definitely pick up the spicy oriental leaf and the figgy sweetness of the virginia leaf. The unflavored cavendish adds just enough sweetness to enhance and mellow out the flavor profile of this blend and everything works in perfect balance. I think the very subtle topping is what sets this apart from most other English blends. The tin note seems to suggest Anise or Licorice but it is so subtle it is difficult to tell for sure. Whatever it is, it is amazing and done is just the perfect proportion. This tobacco blend is just a bit more expensive than average but I think it is well worth the extra expense, especially if you enjoy this on special occasions like you would a nice single malt scotch. Not an everyday smoke. It is good enough and smooth enough to smoke all the time but it is so good you really ought to save it so that when you do smoke it, it will be that much more special. Let me reiterate, this is one not to be missed, can't recommend it highly enough. Enjoy!

Sourness I just can't place...
Unlike most pipe fans here, I'm not a fan of this one. I'm somewhat new to pipes (again) after smoking them for a bit then went on a cigar kick for years (still enjoy a stogie from time to time, but pipes are taking back over). I've tried several bowls of this out of several different pipes and just don't like the "sour" flavor I get from this tobacco. It's almost reminiscent of smoking meat with green red oak wood. Very unpleasant and I don't think it was the pipes or my technique as most of the other tobaccos I've tried (from OTC brands, bulk from local tobacco shops, to various other branded tins) and found most ranged from acceptable to great. So far Plum Pudding and Sir Walter Raleigh (regular) are the only NO GO tobaccos I've found. Hopefully your results will be better, but this one is off my list for the foreseeable future.

Bengal Slices or Bengal Brick?
Smoked the original Bengal Slices about 20 years ago, sold in a rectangular tin, with similar markings as on the current round tin. This certainly smokes as the original mixture, but what puzzles me, is that as the name implies, the mixture was originally pressed, then cut into thin slices. This one came in a solid brick, so it is now a Bengal Brick, not Bengal Slices. My initial thought was that the folks who purchased the Brand name and the formula, forgot to ask for the slicing tool. (Probably a special design, and expensive to build new). The problem with the brick, was that to rub out, i needed a screw driver or ice pick to first break out pieces that could actually be rubbed out. Took several minutes, and i decided that next time i would use my Japanese cabinet maker's saw with the fine teeth to cut my own slices. Recently Pipes and Cigars had a discount offer with special aged bulk Bengal Slices tobacco. I just purchased a few ounces, and found I received a bag of several thick slices, not a hard pressed brick, so easy to pick a chunk to rub out and put in the pipe. Greatly appreciated P&C! This is a great smoke. Even, slow burn, no tongue bite, and with a unique note that is different from most Dunhills and other familiar English mixtures. My only complaint would be that, as with other tobaccos infused with a substantial topping, after a few smokes my pipe is coated with goo from condensed topping, and requires an effort to scrape it out, as well as to clear the 'sludge' out of the stem. Still, a small inconvenience for an unusual and satisfying smoke.

My current favorite
I recently resumed my pipe smoking after a decades long layoff and have worked my way through assorted English Blends, chasing my old favorite, Balkan Original Mix. I found some Penzance and liked it but the nicotine hit was a little more that I wanted. Bengal Slices was recommended to me by my local shop, and I love it. it is my current and favorite everyday smoke now. Smooth, full flavor, slightly sweet, burns really well and I find it a cool smoking tobacco as well, and I'm a "puffer". I purchased a tin of Plum Pudding to try as well, but I like Bengal so much I haven't gotten in to it yet.

A New Favorite!
Tried this tobacco for the first time, and what a wonderful surprise! Smooth, full bodied smoke with a complexity of smokey flavors and a hints of spice. Opening the tin for the first time was a great experience for the nose too! A great smoke to finish the day. This tobacco will now a part of my rotation going forward. So happy to have discovered it!

Celebrated For a Reason
As a fairly recent addition to the pipe smoking community, I don't believe for a second that I have the most discerning taste, these were actually my first crumble cakes. That being said, it was Bengal Slices by a country mile, uphill both ways. Even though it's my pick I'm having trouble describing it, all I can really say is that I felt a slight disappointment when the pipe was finished, the kind that made me consider moving up a size. Plum Pudding wasn't bad, but it has a sort of sweetness that got to be a bit much towards the end, it's got an apt name. Both are good, but I'll be canning the Plum Pudding for experiments down the road, while another tin of BS is on my list.

Yes, Bengal Slices
First let me say that I love this tobacco. For me, it is the epitome of an english/oriental, and I will be buying more ! However, it is not a smoke for a beginner, and for me, it is not an all day smoke. I rubbed this out and filled a large bowl pipe with it and smoked it for WELL over an hour. This tobacco burns very slowly, i enjoyed every minute of it. A little bit goes a long way, so you need some time for this baby.

Revisited
I had tried this about six years or so ago and found it to be decidedly average. I put down my pipes for a few years, then smoked stuff I had cellared, and recently have been purchasing tobacco again. Either this tobacco has undergone some changes or my tastebuds had been burned out a few years back. This is a great, meaty, sweet and salty blend that talks back and gets more complex the further you get into the bowl. Perhaps my first taste of it was when it was in it's infancy (I remember the announcement that the Seattle pipe club blends would be available to the public, I was living in Oregon at the time). The tin I just got from P&C, like yesterday, with a bit of time in the air, tasted mature and well rounded.

Plum Pudding, an exquisite smoking expiereance , almost to good to share
A friend of mine gave me about two bowls worth of Plum Pudding for me to sample, Once I lit up my pipe I realized why he had given me such a small amount, Plum pudding was so good, it was almost too good to share . The aroma was a bouquet of floral, incense, and herb as well as a rich smooth smokiness' with just a hint of spice. Just a beautiful smoke. I immediately purchased six ounces from Pipes and cigars.

Hard to find but worth it!
Beautiful crumble cake with a pleasant tin note. Top note is not an issue unless you are sensitive to them...very subtle. Also the cavendish plays a back of the bus addition but it is there, which is a good thing in this blend. Latakia is the star but the orientals are right there as well. Very tasty blend as you slowly work it. Gets better throughout the bowl. Really interested in letting some of this age. I am in the camp that all tobaccos benefit with age. Some more then others but they all will improve with the blending of flavors, the rounding off of high notes and the such. Something with this blend leans me to a nice surprise in a year or so.

Fantastic
I never had the pleasure of tasting the original Bengal Slices, though, after they were gone they were spoke of in hushed and reverent tones. The new Bengal slices rank very high on my list of what a latakia blend should taste like. Reminds me more of Germains Special Latakia Flake, a tobacco that hasn't been pronounced dead yet but hasn't been available, to me at least, in several years. The bengal slices are a bit sweeter, though the can I recently purchased never got to see a cellar and the last Germains tin I cracked had a good four years sealed and in the dark like some residents of the white house. I can't say exactly why you should like it, I love it. It burns slow and cool and the flavor is there from the start and just keeps getting better as it burns down. One of the few tobacco's I've bought in the last six months that has me trying to light a bowl of ashes.

Not quite Bengal Slices but almost.
A very nice tobacco quite reminiscent of Bengal Slices or Fusilier’s Ration. Similar texture, similar flavor and aroma but missing a little something, either a particular ingredient or slight difference in the way the tobaccos were matured/seasoned. It smokes smoothly and evenly. It’s very good and worthwhile having in hand, particularly when Bengal Slices or Fusilier’s Ration are unavailable.

Plum Pudding - Complex and Smooth
Somewhat new to pipe smoking but after two years I have found my favorite blend in "Plum Pudding." Like other Seattle Pipe Club blends I have tried, "Plum Pudding" has very complex flavors why being very smooth. I definitely pick "Plum Pudding" over "Potlatch" because it does not give me tongue bite where "Potlatch" does. The spicy and sweet flavors complement each other much like salt and caramel do. Finally the crumble cake flakes add to an already interesting tobacco when I am packing my pipe. Order the 2 oz this time and I promise you will be ordering the 8 oz on your next order after that so you don't run out!

Pack a big bowl and sip all day long...
This is a great blend to end the day with, or as I like to do, pack a bigger bowl and sip on it all day long. Great mouth feel, complex flavors, but a little off putting room note for those people who don't enjoy the smell of heavy pipe smoke. My tin came a little drier than usual, but smoked cool and even.

It took me a few bowls to come to a solid opinion on SPC's "Plum Pudding", but I think I can honestly says that it is a very good Balkan blend. Of the two SPC blends I've tried, I think "Potlatch" is even better! But "Plum Pudding" is certainly close behind. I know one thing for sure: I'm definitely going to try all the SPC offerings in future.

Smoky and sweet - a jewel from Standard Tobacco of PA
If you love sweet surprises, this is a gem. I got it as part of the Standard Tobacco of PA Sampler (excellent sampler, BTW - includes some great John Cotton's mixes) and it blew me away. I had heard its history but that meant nothing to me as I was not smoking pipes when this was last on the market. This new iteration from Russ O is outstanding, regardless of it being a clone of something from the past. It's a smoky, sweet, and rich 'English crossover' experience. It has all the Latakia you could want but the star component is a kind of anise-like top note reminiscent of old fashioned licorice. I call it a crossover because it happens to be highly aromatic. It burns cool and long - a very economical smoke. A big bowl has lasted me all day. From the first light to the final draw the flavor remains consistent. Not for the strict English aficionado, maybe, but for those who like to try new things and occasionally crave something smoky with a sweet sting, this is an A+ smoke.

Delightfully surprised
I will keep this short and sweet - amazing blend! I only wish it could come in 8oz tins. I will be ordering several tins for my cellar, placed right next to my Penzance, as well as a few for immediate gratification.
