Good, but not enough flavor for me. Very light blend.
A pleasant and very mild english blend. It seems to me to have equal parts equal parts unflavored black cavendish, virginia, oriental, and latakia. Nothing spactacular, but nothing negative besides not having enough flavor my taste. I like natural tobaccos with lots of flavor. This is light an unobtrosive in every way, but really doesn't have any rough edges. I would compare it to an even lighter peterson early morning pipe. It would make for a great introduction to englishes for someone who is specifically hesitant. I will not purchase again just because of the lack of strong flavor for my tongue. What flavor it does offer is distinctly english, smooth, and pleasant. Definitely very light on latakia.

Subtle and enjoyable
'University Professor' will appeal to those who are looking for a mild English blend that will never offend. It is not for the lovers of "Lat bombs", which has already been oft-stated in the reviews, more for those who appreciate the subtle presence of the pleasures of Latakia, working in unison with the primary varieties. It could serve as an all-day blend, which is something I can't say about many of my preferred English blends. Class is in session!

I enjoyed it more than the plum pudding I purchased. I was the right amount of smokey and the right amount of woodsy.

If I close my eyes
If I close my eyes I can see tweed and Walnut paneling and tea and scones, with just a dollop of preserves. Wistfully I return to grading the first year’s exams. There’s a steamer launching Tuesday next for Cairo and I imagine a holiday with my sweet Annan....

A fuller body that smells
A fuller body that smells and tastes like a campfire. One wants a glass of Scotch with this smoke.

Just a great and flavorable smoke. Only criticism is that it burns hot and quick.

05 OCT, 2020 Upon opening
05 OCT, 2020 Upon opening of the bag one can immediately smell the Latakia with the Virginia's in the background. The Orientals also are noticeable and add some spicy interest to the blend. This smells wonderful and enticing to the olfactory membranes. I am going to enjoy this. Under match, University Professor lets you know it is not a week mixture but rather a semi stout blend that hits you with the Orientals first then the Latakia steps in because it does not want to be left out. The Virginias do add a little sweetness but not a lot. I like this blend just simply for its strength. There is a NIC hit but minimal. I could very easily smoke 3 or 4 bowls of this at one sitting.

I have to confess that
I have to confess that I'm a non aromatic kinda guy but want a bunch of flavor, to the point I crumble up the cigar tips into my jar of odds and ends to add some Oomph to it. It took a couple bowls to really get into it and I just reordered 4oz so I guess that's really what matters. It also keeps it's flavor as it dries out... My wife also can appreciate the room note as long as it doesn't get too smoky in the room.

English style that is 'just right'....
UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR is a great substitute for vanished or WAY $$$$ 'English blends! Just the right amount of Latikia, cool and long burning. The cut is a little long and stringy, but maybe that's just me....! Waited until I had smoked half my order before writing a review. For me, this blend will have lasting power and will become my 'regular' English style tobacco...! I am as pleased with University Professor as I am DISPLEASED with the supposed 'match' blends from P & C. Mostly they aren't matches at all. Poor quality & value....even when on sale.

THIS, is what down-to-Earth means
If this has latakia in it, I couldn't taste it, but that may not be saying much as I'm simply not one of those who would make a very good wine taster or food critic because for me it's 'beer and steak and potato', lol. The very first puff after charring I got the taste of this blend and for me it didn't bring into my imagination what a 'university professor' would be smoking in his leather and dark-stained oak bookshelved office. This sinatntaneously brought to mind a poor and simple man sitting in a very primitive log cabin, in a rough-hewn chair he made with his own hands, his wife cooking a stew in a heavy cast iron pot hanging over the fire in the fireplace. Think Davy Crocket or Daniel Boone kind of scenario. This is what the flavor of this tobacco brough to *my* mind. It's such and earthy taste and nutty. When I say 'nutty', don't think peanuts, think walnuts or pecans and the aftertatse one gets from eating some of those. This was a dry tobacco in the bag I got it in (I only ordered an ounce to just try it out), but again, like the Ramback Gold, I'm beginning to think I've been smoking my tobaccos while they're too moist, because this blend was a wonderful taste at the first puff. And now the kickers...there was literally zero bite whatsoever. I mean this stuff was so smooth on the tongue you would almost wonder if something was wrong. A whole bowl of this in my Tom Sawyer MO Meerschaum and my tongue was nothing but a happy camper. This was also a very cool smoke! A couple of times I puffed pretty hard just to see what it'd do to the bowl, and it remained tame and barely heated the bowl more than normal puffing. Overall, this is going to be marked as my favorite tobacco in my stash. I very much like my sweet-type cavendishes and Virginias, but because of the wonderful overall experience with this blend - taste(!), bite, bowl heat - this blend is simply wonderful.

University Professor
A true English blend; one of the best I've ever smoked

Perfect English for the seasoned smoker or new English smokers.
Been smoking SUP for a couple of months now and it is as good from the first light to the end of the bowl. It's the perfect blend between the lat bombs and the lighter American English blends. Lots of flavor but it doesn't overwhelm. Could smoke all day.Good ash and flavor to the end of the bowl. The wife even likes the room note.I have a pound but just ordered another pound. Love smoking a couple of bowls at the end of the day to relax and wind down the day. Very good English from Scotty.

University Professor
This was a Nice Blend...But, it was a little heavy on the Latakia, with too much "Bite" to the tongue. I tried to "tone it down" with a touch of LL-7 or 1-Q. Still, on its own, University Professor is a Nice Blend, but it cannot an "all the time" smoke!

Good tasty English Blend
I really like University Professor. The Latakia and Orientals provide that rich smoky flavor that you want in an English blend. And the Virginia adds just the right amount of sweetness. The flavor stays consistent throughout the smoking experience and is satisfying. For a bulk blend this is my favorite English.

A smart move that doesn't require a diploma
I've been smoking this for years and it never disappoints. A good all-day smoke or a special end-of-the-day reward.

My Dunhill London replacement
As Ive watch my Dunhill London Mixture supply dwindle, I've searched for a replacement. I may have found it! This is a wonderful, traditional, English blend. It not be right up with London Mixture on strength but the taste is there in similarity. I did taste a more sweetness than what London offers, which I enjoyed. This has found a place in my rotation. Super blend at a 1/3 of the price of similar blends. Hard to beat!

Relaxing
Fantastic blend! If you enjoy relaxing by a camp fire, this blend will take you there. I don't know how else to explain it. It tastes like a campfire smells and I love that smell. I don't know if it could be all day every day for me, but I sure am enjoying it right now. Extremely enjoyable. Will definitely buy more in the future.

Very Nice!
I enjoyed this blend very much. It has a nice aroma of a campfire/bbq and it's a nice all day kind of smoke, at least for me. The lady of the house seemed quite pleased with the smell too and that is a big plus in mine and her's book. If you haven't already tried it I recommend that you do.

Fantastic English Blend
I have been exploring different English blends and this one has become one of my favorites. If you are looking for an all day smoke than look no further. You might be think I’m over exaggerating but this one is as good as Dunhill Early Morning Pipe! Give it a try, you’ll fall in love with this blend like i have!

Very good!
This my first exposure to Scotty's University Professor and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite English blends. I am finding that I like it better than Dunhill Early Morning (or Nightcap). Stays lit and burns well.
Customer Testimonials
I don't have any fancy ways of explaining the smoke or taste but I can say that I was very pleased with this blend. Very smooth and my wife doesn't seem to mind the smell so overall a win .... I will definitely be ordering this one again, cheap and pleasant.

I've been smoking a pipe for over forty years. This is one of the best English blends I've ever tried. Not to strong, not to week, perfect! University Professor can be smoked all day. It will be one of my regular orders from Pipes & Cigars. Better than some tobacco's costing three times as much. I do not care for aromatic blends...tried them ALL!
AP of Ledgewood, NJ
This is a fantastic blend, that is equivalent to the pricey English imports. I've been a long time fan of Dunhill's English blends. I've tried many blends that were said to be comparable to Dunhill, but they never held up to the claims for me. Finally, I've found a blend that does actually compare, and at a very affordable price. This will be my primary blend now. I love it!
RB of Steele, AL
Very good smoke for those of us who don't care for aromatics. Also at a very good price.
RM of Fortville, IN
This has got to be my favorite non-aromatic. I love the smokey taste with a hint of sweetness. Plenty of smoke and burns to a fine white ash with no residue in my pipe.
