The Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen series might well be their most iconic line. All of them exhibit the graceful styling for which Stanwell is renowned, but with a unique twist. All of them come with a standard length and a churchwarden stem so you can enjoy your pipe when you're a bit more active, or when you have the time to lounge and relax.
The Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen Brushed Black is not only the most affordable finish in the lineup, but it's incredibly attractive. The bowl and shank get a wire brush treatment and a glossy black finish, but the rims are smooth and stained in a rich red tone. Treat yourself to one of the unique shapes in the Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen series at the lowest price.
Please note - The pipe lengths in the More Details section are for the pipes with the sort stem installed. With the churchwarden stem in place, they will typically be between 10 and 11 inches long.
Awesome pipes. I waited 4 years for the HCA VII to come back. I also have an HCA II. Both are great smokers, and just simply beautiful pipes. You don't have one? Why not. What is wrong with you. You need one of these pipes
I'll start by saying I'm a huge fan of the higher end Stanwell pipes, and I have really wanted one of these HCA's. Well I finally pulled the trigger and got one. The briar pipe itself is very nice, very classy. I like the short stem and it is good quality, but the church warden stem, which I was most excited about, has some funky warps in it which makes it bend a couple different ways, not a nice smooth bend. Instead it bends down and bends to the side and then the end twists a little too. Looks like they heated a straight stem and just let the heat warp it whatever way it went and just left it at that. Very disappointing. Makes the pipe look silly and cheap. Expected much more from Stanwell.
Ordered my first HCA about two months ago and smoked it during my Christmas break. Grabbed a black calabash style and after burning a few bowls of Meat Pie I'm already browsing the catalog for my next Stanwell. Craftsmanship is excellent, the pipe is a highly functional work of art, and it fits in my hand so well I'd believe it if someone told me it was custom built just for me. I can't decide which stem I like more, the short or the churchwarden, so I'll probably just keep alternating between the two. The pipe comes in its own HCA tube with a black pouch large enough to hold the pipe when fitted with the shorter stem. Great for travel. Stanwell is known for quality but the HCA's are a cut above the rest. They're definitely head turners.
