Sutliff Burma Road

If you're a fan of blends like the late, lamented McClelland Frog Morton series, this is a blend you should try - Sutliff Burma Road.

Virginias and Latakia are blended with some toasty black Cavendish and finished with notes of vanilla and rum to create a smooth American English blend that has smoky notes with mellow sweetness and an intriguing room note. If aromatic Latakia blends are in your wheelhouse, you should add Sutliff Burma Road to your rotation.

Sandalwood and teak and heat.
Sandalwood and teak and heat. Elephants lumbering on the jungle path. Porters and pith helmets and leeches; mist and overgrown temples....

Definitely different from most latakia blends
Pleasant, slight sweetness and still a good deal of latakia. Definitely different.

Solid latakia
Ok so,,,, I'm on the fence with this one. Totally in love with vanilla custard, but this one is very latakia forward. The tangy virginias are there, but extremely understated. I would have cut the latakia in half and filled with virginia, but that would not be Burma. In any case, I'm going to continue to smoke it and update.

Light It Up
Is peppery and tangy yet balances real well. With hints of vanilla and nuts, it goes well together. Definitely a morning smoke.

Great Morning Smoke
Smells real boozy in the bag. It smokes smoky, spicy and sweet. I love this as morning smoke with coffee. Despite a very strong bag note, the smoked flavor is creamy and light, never harsh.

Tasty and sweet
A tasty aromatic English that smokes well with a nice flavor profile. For me the taste became sweeter as I got further down the bowl. Sweetness with hints of chocolate, brown sugar notes. Enough latakia to keep it interesting. I'll be smoking more of this blend. Good job Sutliff

Still searching for Frog Morton replacement
Not bad. I thought this was going to hit the “frog morton” spot, and at times i can somewhat taste some things that are similar, but its not a consistent flavor that i was looking for. Still good, mild, and burned great all the way through. I could see this as an all day smoke or an “ol’ reliable” in the future if i wasn't busy trying everything on this site haha

Decent English blend.
This is a decent, cheaper English blend. It burns well and has a nice flavor, but gets a little soapy tasting toward the bottom of the bowl. It smells like leather and bonfire. I enjoyed it outdoors. My wife objected to the smell. She said it smelled like burnt green beers.

Pretty good, but not what i was looking for
It taste like you would think cavendish and Latakia would together, seems to be roughly a 50/50 blend. I wanted this blend with a little vanilla, i guess. Not exactly an all day smoke, but also not terribly harsh.

Taste like Plum Pudding, but better.
Smooth smoke. Good taste. Similar to plum pudding, but not as strong. Worth trying.

Sutliff Burma Road, English Aromatic
Excellent blend, perfect combination of black cavendish, virginia and a touch of latakia with a top note of vanilla and rum. You can smoke it pipeful after pipeful with no bite whatsoever. Wonderful room note and flavor. Packs well, not to moist, stays lit to the bottom of your bowl. Offered at a great price as well. Try a couple of once's, you'll come back for more . . . I DID! and I usually don't care for aromatics. But Sutliff Burma Road is the exception to the rule . . . ENJOY!

Sutliff Berma Road
Very Pleasant Tobacco, enjoyed smoking this Very Much. Nice and smooth, stayed lit, with only one relight, burned down to a white ash, and not a bite. Had a light Rum & Vanilla flavor. Would certainly buy this from P&C again, cause it's an All Day Smoke !

A new favorite
Recently bought as a replacement for FrogMorton cellar. That being said it’s not Frog Morton Cellar but it is a lightly topped English that is one of my favorites. I’m stocking up on this blend.

Great crossover blend
This is my first aromatic with Latakia. It’s really good. My only issue is it’s pretty moist and needs a bit to get ready to smoke. But the flavors are great. It’s been a go to blend for me when I have time to prep it

Loving that Latakia!
I have always smoked aromatic tobacco. I thought I would try something different and branch out a bit. I have been intrigued about Latakia especially by the way it is cured by smoke. So I decided to give this Burma Road a test drive. Upon opening the bag, the Latakia is quite prominent. When I first lit the pipe I was even more intrigued. The taste has a nice smokey flavor. At first I thought this might take some getting used to. However, it did not take long at all. In fact by the second bowl, it had me hooked! It burned cool with no bite and it kept begging me to come back for more. After several bowls, I find myself going back repeatedly for that Latakia. I really like the smell and taste of it. I like it so much I am going to try some other Latakia blends. I wish I had tried this years ago. If you are an avid outdoors man like myself and fond of campfires, good times, good friends and a great smoke, give it a whirl, it may be right up your ally.

Burma Road
I haven't ventured into the non-aromatics to much, but with the Sutliffe Burma Road I'll do a little more venturing. The tobacco has a nice room note, no bite and a tobacco that will likely be a part of my tobacco rotation.

One of the best pipe
One of the best pipe tobacco I smoke.

This was my first attempt at an aromatic English blend. I usually smoke non aromatics and mild English blends. However, this is a very mild blend. So mild I can't tell where the aromatic or the English begins or ends. It is not bad, it is just extremely mild.

Where's the smoke??
I think the description to this blend is decently accurate.... Although I thought the Latakia should of been a bit more pronounced. Well, maybe I at least hoped it would be. This is a fantastic blend for easing folks into English blends.

End of a search!
I bought 2oz. of SBR. I've been searching for an aro/latika blend. I've smoked them alone and mixed them with different blends to get what I was looking for. I bought this hoping it would be the end of that search and it has been. However, I couldn't really taste or smell the aromatics in the blend. I decided to try a little bit Sutliff Spiced Rum mixed with the SBR and that did the trick! For my palate it made all the flavors come alive! I always have Spiced Rum on hand because it is one of my favorites. I'll be buying more SBR!

Burma Road
Burma Road has a very nice balance of tobacco flavors with a very lightly aromatic twist. This has become one of my favorite regular tobaccos. I like to dry it for 20 minutes or so. My family remarks often that it has a very nice aroma, though to me it is not overly sweet. I enjoy other aromatics like Lane RLP and 1Q. I also like latakia blends like Old Dublin and Sutliff Medium English. Burma Road splits the difference very nicely.

Solid Blend
Nice and mild. Great flavor. Not at all overpowered by the Latakia. You get hints of the topping but still good tobacco flavor. Will buy again

Customer Testimonials
Great tobacco. Just enough Latakia to taste. Slightly sweet. Reminds me of Lane HGL but I think I like this a bit better.

Hankering for a change, I randomly chose Burma Road. Nice crossover blend. Very alive, but not too strong or bitey. I'll buy more.

Absolutely beautiful flavors. I was an English fanatic and never dared touch the aromatics. I always wanted to try them but couldn't figure out why someone would want their tobacco to taste like anything but tobacco... then I tried this blend not knowing it was flavored and freaking LOVED it! Once I found out it was an English/Aromatic my bias was destroyed and I ordered 8 oz. Long story short... Try it. It's the perfect blend of English and Aromatic. The flavors compliment each other in a mad partnership of a perfect smoke... Enjoy.

Being a long-time aromatic smoker, I wanted to try something different. I was interested in trying a light English blend so ordered 1oz of Burma Road to try out. Man, this is good stuff. To my nose, the pouch note was of incense from the Latakia, but the flavor was very mild, and room note wonderful. If you're interested in a 'crossover' blend, you should try this one.
