Sutliff Crumble Kake No. 5 Barrel Aged

Do you like your blends bold and flavorful? Then you've come to the right place because that's exactly what Sutliff Crumble Kake No. 5 Barrel Aged is.

This blend begins with mellow Burley, sweet Virginias, and nicotiana rustica, a once wild-grown form of tobacco with a heightened nicotine level. These tobaccos are combined and spent time in a bourbon barrel before pressing into an easy-to-prepare crumble cake. It's a hearty blend with some earthiness and spice, a subtle sweetness, and a nice "kick". This is a great choice after a nice meal, or later in the evening before heading off to bed. STRONG nic hit
For years and years I was a constant Copenhagen snuff user. I literally had a pinch in my mouth if I wasn't eating or sleeping. I've smoked "super strong" cigars and couldn't feel it. This pipe tobacco is not a joke, so for those who are unaccustomed to strong nicotine content, handle with care and a full stomach. Flavors are fairly balanced. Not getting a lot of bite. Rubbed easily and personally I didn't dry it out and is smoking very well.

Great smoke
Taste great and strong with nicotine. Thick smoke with a hint of chocolate.

Wetter than last time so
Wetter than last time so drying time required. Still has the great rustica flavor. It's still strong on the Nic hit. Smokes great. I don't get sweetness or bitter it's right down the middle. Enjoy and get it while you can.

NIC BOMB
The flavor was deep and rich but it was a little much for me. Very powerful nic hit. I broke a sweat after about 1/4 bowl. I retrohaled a couple times and felt like I singed my nostril hairs. I woke up in the middle of the night with a migraine. I felt like I had been poisoned. It was my bad though - I should have known what I was getting into. That's just my experience and I'm a big fan of taking personal responsibility. I have since used the rest of this great tasting tobacco as a blend component.

Not much flavor for me.
I’m probably judging this blend way too soon. It all sounded perfect, and the presentation and tin note are absolutely top notch. This is a really nice crumble cake, smelled amazing like that of sherry and natural tobacco leaf. However I found that it just wasn’t very flavorful. I smoke it in a large bowl briar, not a super wide bowl, just standard width and deep. The flavor remains the same throughout the bowl and does not change, and becomes more prominent. There is a bit of a vinegar flavor, but the flavor was very mild to, would say officially medium/light flavor. What flavor there was was a little bit floral, a little bit vinegar, a little bit grassy and ever so slightly nutty. There is a very slight tang and I did not detect any sweetness. I’ll definitely try it again in a smaller bowl at some point, but going to shelf this tin for a long while. Too many other flavorful tobaccos to enjoy and try in the meantime. Lots of thick smoke. Oh and the rustics leaf provided no nic hit discernible to me. It seemed overall fairly low in nicotine content which was surprising given the contents.

Easily in my top 3
This stuff is amazing. This is easily in my top 3 favorite blends. Right up there with HH Bold Kentucky and HH Rustica.
