Sutliff English

Sutliff English combines Virginias from the US and Africa with a good measure of Orientals and a moderate amount of Cyprian Latakia. The Orientals steer the ship in this blend with floral and slightly sour notes, supported by the smokiness of the Latakia. The Virginias add just the right amount of sweetness to keep the flavor from being to dry. If you're searching for an all-day type of Latakia blend, Sutliff English is just what you're looking for.

Easy going English blend.
Not a unique English blend. But it sure does hit the spot, one of my favorites.

A fine mild Latakia blend.
Very mild. Just enough latakia to produce that ethereal flavor and aroma. Very cool smoking. A pleasant change if you tire of the bite many of the stronger latakia blends can produce. If anyone you know wants to try a Latakia blend for the first time this would be a nice way to start. I'll probably keep some around as a change of pace.

A great "Let's try Latakia" blend for the uninitiated, or an any time of day smoke.
A gentlemanly tobacco. Very pleasant to smoke with just enough Latakia to add mystery. A good "wake you up" blend for the a.m. but I could smoke this periodically throughout the day also. Satisfying. Hearty. Not nearly as intense as Sutliff's fine Lord Nelson, which I also enjoy savoring, this is more of a "warm-up act" to heavier Latakia blends. If you want to try Latakia, but aren't ready to go "whole hog," give Sutliff English a taste. I found it to be a nice alternative to my usual Lane 1-Q without taking the plunge into something drastically different.

Good balance of non-aromatic Virginias
Good balance of non-aromatic Virginias with orientals and a bit of heavier Latakia. Smokes cool and yet has an acceptable room note.

Would Recommend
This stuff is great even if you don't like English tobacco's. I used the bulk of it this to mellow out a strong English blend, and voila I had a nice smooth tobacco still with a little kick of Latakia. And the aroma is great. I saved some to smoke straight on those mellow days

Nice smaoke but a trifle bland
A classic London blend, mellow with no bite; would be perfect if the flavor profile were upped a bit.

Liked the cut, I thought
Liked the cut, I thought the latakia was about right,in that it didn't overwhelm the burley. My three stars comes from the orientals. Which I've never liked.

Sutliff English is a very nice and decent english blend. it might not be an especial one at any way,but there is nothing wrong with it ! Anybody who miss McClelland 2040, should try Sutliff English! it might be one of the best compliments for it.

Not no, hell no!
Although I've tried nearly every blend by Sutliff, I must say this blend is by far the least enjoyable. No aroma, no taste and too many re-lights. I won't buy again.

A great blend
This blend is my all around, "go to" blend. The smokiness of some latakia, with a hint of caramel from whatever else is in it. It is smooth, always, with a great room note. It was formerly the Altadis 302 and is now a Sutliff. Perfect for the person who wants to move away from the sickly sweet, clogging, wet Cavendish blends that sound like a fruit bowl or candy shop. Someone who prefers the heavier English stuff will find this too light. I don't, and I venture occasionally into a stronger latakia. Five stars plus.

Sutliff light english
Light English is a very light and smooth smoking tabbaco. An enjoyable smoke. Jay Mackelprang.

Good stuff
Nice mild break from others; lights well and stays lit; no bite; real tobacco taste and aroma. I would smoke it in a bent Peterson/Nording or similar pipe.Good morning smoke.

Great beginner English!
I've been a pipe smoker for over two years now. I tried Latakia blends and didn't like them. My tastes have changed since I became a pipe smoker so I figured I would give Latakia another chance. I saw that this one is light in Latakia so I gave it a shot. I'm glad I did! It is light on the Latakia and I think it has some black cavendish in it. Nice flavor and I detect just the slightest sweetness. This is a great intro into the English blends for aromatic smokers such as myself.

Light is the word.
I found this to be too light of an English for me. Almost as if a little added Latakia would make it just right for my palate. Only having had two bowls may not be enough to judge this tobacco as there are other high mark reviews. It's also possible I just happen to like heavy English blends.

A nice transition
I recently have been venturing out from Aromatic tobaccos. I've tried some VaPer and English blends. On the English front, I've tried Dunhill's Early Morning Pipe and Samuel Gawith's Squadron Leader. Both have been a little too strong on the nicotine side for me. I usually start getting dizzy and nauseous about 2/3rds through the bowl. But then I tried Sutliff Light English--just the right amount of everything! Not too strong; not too bland. Just a nice balance in flavor and intensity; perfect for someone wanting a nice transition into English blends. Highly recommended.

The Ultimate Crossover
I purchased Sutliff Light English under the assumption that it is the new name of the former Altadis blend 302 Light English. At the store it goes by "Professor," and it has been my go-to blend for years. It is mixture of a light cavendish with Latakia, and it offers a light caramel note with the smokiness of the Latakia. It is not sweet or cloying like most "cavendish" or aromatic blends - the Latakia offers the perfect dry tempering to the aromatic side. This can be smoked all day, any day. Smells excellent, I am told.
