Three Nuns Orange (Original)

Bell's Three Nuns Orange is a classic tobacco, coming in a small spun-cut format which matures the Virginias and marries them perfectly with the robust dark-fired tobaccos used. The result is a hearty blend with a deep fruitiness, rich body and a smokiness that rounds out the flavor. It was unavailable in the US for many years, but has made a triumphant return. Once again, you can enjoy Three Nuns Orange.

Note: With the addition of Three Nuns Yellow and Green, the original may also be referred to as Three Nuns Orange.

One of my favorites
Amazing smoke! perfect for any situation. Good for a mid-day smoke or a chilly evening smoke all the same. Smelled to me like BBQ sauce fresh in the tin, but in a good way, and the longer it aged the better it smelt. Flavor wise it was a wonderfully full, somewhat sweet and almost citrus flavored. One of my favorite smokes.

Perfect right out of the Tin!
This is my first go with this tobacco and it was amazing! Great flavor, pleasant room note, mild but full of flavor. A side note: I used a new cob instead of one of my briar’s for this as I wasn’t sure if I would like it … enjoy!

Nun yesterday , Nun today, and Nun tomorrow!
Three Nuns is one of my favorites. I was introduced to it about 50 years ago. Although, I feel the original was better tasting and seemed to burn slower, it’s still very good and one of my favorites. As I remember, the original tin was a full 2 oz. I hope this helps, Tom

A time tested blend of
A time tested blend of Virginia, burley and Kentucky tobaccos to gratify millions of pipe smokers. I used to buy bulk blends but for a while I have sticking to tons. Great product.

Ready to smoke without any drying time. Coiled coins of promising golden delight, ready to reward with the flavor of Virginia, Dark Kentucky, and spicy Perique.

Really good flavor. Lighter smoke. I find it compliments quite a few bourbons and Canadian Whiskey.

My Favorite All-time Smoke
This was my first DF Kentucky and has become my all-time favorite tobacco. I love that it is super rich, decently heavy nic hit, the smoke is thick and yet it has a bright note that some DF kentucky leaf doesn't have. Somehow a light toasty combined with that deep, dark rich flavor DF KY is known for at the same time. Smokes absolutely perfectly. Only issue I've had with it is I need to care for it a lot or it dries very quickly.

Nice, mild but satisfying, afternoon/early-evening
Nice, mild but satisfying, afternoon/early-evening smoke. Taste wise, it reminds me of lovely, well-brewed cup of tea. Earl grey, perhaps.

I see why CS Lewis liked it
By far my favorite pipe tobacco. I've tried 30+ tobaccos of all types, so maybe a semi-beginner with some experience over 10 years. This one has a fragrance and intensity that I love. I wish I had better words to describe it with, but I feel like it's a combo of cologne, leather, hay, incense and fall leaves. On top of that, it has a pretty strong nicotine presence.

Nice smokey smoke
If you like fire cured tobaccos and Virginia tobaccos then look no further! This 'baccy does the trick and itches that spot that needs scratching!

My husband loves it!
Great smooth taste, slow burn, great tobacco and i like the aroma as well.

Nice earthy blend
Got this as a gift for Christmas. Really enjoy the earthy flavor. I may be doing it wrong, but the little twirly disks make for easy pipe packing and a long smoke. (Roughly twice as long as a usual bowl).

Tasty, but plan to give it some age.
Bought 2 tins, one to crack open and the other to toss in the cellar. The Virginia’s in this are quite nice, but definitely could use a little age. Excited to see how it is in a couple years.

Best smoke I have had.
I have tried a range of other pipe tobaccos, and Three Nuns gives me the perfect balance of natural bitter and smoothness I love. Think of breathing in chickory coffee with an aroma that has actually turned the heads of random folk on the street. This is by far the best I have had.

Three Nuns over the years!
This is one of the first Fancy tobaccos I smoked in the early 70's. Yes! it is a little different in taste... perhaps more nutty and less smokey. But still one of the best smoking tobaccos I've enjoyed for many years!

Perfect pipe smoke
It stands up to the name despite the recipe change. A great smoke at any time of the day!

Packs a punch...
I've been smoking pipes for about 3 years -- averaging a bowl once a week. This was my first attempt at a more powerful smoke. Taste is pleasing and (for me at least) packs a pretty good nicotine punch. So I give it a 4-star rating -- I think for those who like the bold flavor and nicotine punch, this is one to try. I'm into tobacco that has a little less punch though.

Try it!
Back in the early 90's I had a pipe in my mouth all day long and Three Nuns was all I smoked, it was expensive even then. Then I quit pipes for cigars. Now i'm back to both. The Three Nuns of now is not the same from the earlier time but still ...to me ...a very tasty, mild, easy burning smoke. Try this! When ordering, also get a can of" Perique for blending"and experiment. Now a question for PIPES AND CIGARS can we get Three Nuns in a 3.5 oz. tin and save a little on the price?

Not bad...just pricey.
Good coin cut tobacco. I don't think it's worth the extra cabbage though. Burns really fast like it was made of pure Maryland leaf. It's good and tastes Virginia though for sure. Just pricey.

Lovely ladies, those Three Nuns are.
After not smoking this marvelous blend for several years, I must have gotten distracted by newer blends for awhile, I have returned to my old friend Three Nuns and found it as wonderful as I remember. Lots of deep tobacco flavor with no bite whatsoever. I'm glad I snagged two tins when they went on sale but now I'm wishing I got several more as it ages beautifully as well. I guess I'm just going to have to start ordering more soon!

Three Nuns Tin
This is getting to be one of my favorite smokes. It comes in coins that need to be rubbed or cut prior to loading it into your bowl. I cut it like I'm mincing fresh parsley which gives me the best smoke. This tobacco is to be smoked slowly like sipping a fine wine. I also find that the way you smoke it (with pipe in the corners of your mouth vs the front of your mouth) changes the taste somewhat based on where the smoke hits your palate first. This tobacco starts off tasting a bit like butter pecan or on the nutty side. It finishes though with a fruity taste of dates or figs. It's somewhat hard to pinpoint or describe. All I can say is, it is a smooth and tasty smoke. It is also somewhat strong for the first time pipe smoker. It can give you somewhat of a buzz.

C.S. Lewis was right again
Just smoked this for the first time and have really enjoyed it. It's sweet, a little fruity with some spice/pepper to it. Smooth finish and smokes/burns very well and easily. This is on the lighter end of an English for me but still very satisfying and relaxing.

A nice smoke
A very nice, relatively mild, dry smoke. I was a little hesitant to try it because I thought it smelled a little like a horse barn. But I was pleasantly surprised once I put a flame to it. My girlfriend says it smells like raisins. The little medallions certainly add a little character.

Classy Smoke
Flavor is rich and scent is classy. I am new to tobacco pipes but greatly enjoyed packing and puffing on this tobacco. I read that JRR Tolkien smoked this stuff so I had to give it a shot! Fully recommend. It keeps a light quite well even on my poor pack job.

Customer Testimonials
Not quite like the Three Nuns of old, but still a delightful smoke.
TS of rochester, NH
This is a stout blend. The dominant tin fragrance is licorice, which is also noticeable in the room note.
RH of Middletown, RI
An excellent blend for any time of the day. All natural unadulterated tobacco flavor. 3 Nuns has that special something, I smoke this all day on the go.
SA of Chicago, IL
Oh my Lord...I enjoyed this tobacco and will keep it in my rotation, however this does not contain the ORIGINAL recipe for the blend so do not think it is of the old. The tin looks more sinister than one would think of three nuns. Upon opening the aroma is really nice, smooth, with a sense of nuttiness. The tobacco was cut well, moisture level ok enough to pack right away probably. I did let them dry for about 15 mins because "coins" tend to hold moisture. The flavor is nice and mellow with the Va being noticed. It had good lighting characteristics as well.
