I'm always on the lookout for a good Cavendish selection. I don't think I've tried this before. But I been doing this a long time so perhaps, maybe? However, I bought this recently in an order, and gave it a try last evening. Oh my gosh, it was so good; and filled with the mellowest and smoothest flavors and, to me, better than most Cavendish products I've enjoyed to date. The whole process was, I want to say, cool! And I don't mean cool as in; "hey man, this stuff is really cool", you know, like way back in the 60s?? And i was born in 1950 and that makes me oaf, but I'm not so old that I can't appreciate a very very good Cavendish smoke. And this one from Borkum Riff, surprised the heck out of me. It's good, really good.

Another good budget blend from Casey Jones. Wife enjoys the aroma indoors. Comparable to capt. black, if you ask me.

Oh my! One my my all-time favorites! A wonderful temperate taste with great comments from everyone nearby! "Oh my!" Delicious taste and scent made the smoke a genuinely delicious experience! The velvety texture was easy on the tongue for a great experience all the way to the end. I didn’t want the bowl to end! The pipe stayed gently warm throughout the smoke - even with a hard pull draw experience! Casey Jones Hero’s Blend is a keeper! I can hardly wait to try the other C/J’s blends…

A good tobacco, it’s a close second to Prince Albert Vanilla, It has a little bit of a soapy aftertaste, it’s not bad , it’s just not as good as Prince Albert vanilla,

• A little too aromatic - causes some tongue. • Smokes dry and smoothly - no gurgling dottle common to today's overly flavored blends. • I am still looking for a low/no aromatic blend that tastes like there's some real tobacco in it. • Stop all this overly aromatic and flavored blending for the kiddies. If you don't like the flavor of tobacco then don't smoke it! Smoke candies and perfumes instead!

Nice vanilla tabacco we it no bite

The Flavor was a mild smoking outside watering my yard in the evening time about 7:00 pm C\ST. Love smoking it in my Big Ben pipe from Holland...Wish that I still had this pipe.it was an Alligator. green. It was a great pipe that I smoke the Borkum Riff Black Cavendish Tobacco.

First of all, this is not an all-black cavendish, like CB Dark or Lane BCA. It's a mixture of Virginia and about 50% black cavendish (as the package says, but more like 35-40%). Having said that, wonderful aroma off the pouch, mellow, no bite, an all-day smoke. Another plus, not much humectants/chemical coatings here, and just right moisture level, as pretty much all BR tobaccos. Can mix it with harsh too moist/too dry tobacco to mellow it out.

Great flavor, i haven't had a smoke in a while and this one was fantastic.

The flavor is there for a moment but after the first-second-third burn the notes are gone.

Pleasure to smoke Borkum Riff!

Bought this for a change up to my everyday lineup. I bought the small pouch to try, and WOW! It is a little wet for my taste, but a few short minutes of drying on the top of my heater in a coffee filter (I am a little impatient), and its ready to go! Smells like cookies baking after drying, and its a good, sweet smoke! Hardly any bite at all. I just ordered a 12 oz can of it today. If you like a good aroma, and a sweet smoke, you wont be sorry that you tried this one!

I'll start by saying I'm pretty new to the piping world, only a year and a half, so my tobacco pallet has yet to be fully developed, but I have to say... I LOVE this blend. It's very smooth and has a sweetness... but not overly so. I can pick up a subtle vanilla note and once in a while the slightest touch of honey and other times roasted coffee. It depends how hard I puff and the pipe it's in. There are several other flavors that come and go while going down the bowl and they are ALL good. I know, it's odd, but that's what I get out of it. I've gone through VaPers, English, Virginia and cheap OTC blends and I always, always come back to Casey Jones Hero's Blend. It's a perfect mix for me. I recently jarred three pouches so I'll have some in reserve for a while. I can never smell the room note, I might be too close to it, so I can't speak to that. Even the sweetest tobacco smells like regular smoke to me. So, long story short...this blend is my absolute favorite....hands down. I think I'll go enjoy some right now :)

I love the sweetness and the smell of this tobacco. I did have to dry it prior to smoking but it is a wonderful tobacco. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a sweet tobacco.

The smoke is pleasant and the blend is decent. I prefer captain black due to it tasting more rich to me in its flavors.

Aroma

This is not like American Black Cavendish. The taste is less sweet, but just as smooth. It is earthier and the aroma is more like simple tobacco. There are flavorings, but they applied lightly. This is my absolute favorite of the Borkum Riff blends. I find the others to be a bit too light.

I'm really liking this new aromatic. Lots of flavor, pleasant room note, and a long, cool burn.

I love having BRBlack Cavendish among the tobaccos in my rotation. Relative to the other varieties I've tried so far, it's bold but not overpowering.

This is one of my favorite blends. I bought it in a package combo with Missouri Meerschaum Great Dane mixture. This is a richer blend, with a slightly stronger aromatic quality. It's definitely mild enough to be an all day smoke. As I like to rotate tobaccos, it's one of the tops.

Im a newbie and I've only tried a few things so far. This is the best smoke I've had up til now. The only thing i've had that was better was a blend i bought at the tobacco store. Its well worth the money. Thats the good stuff.

I taste the flavor of the tobacco subtly after the prune and plum which, has mixed well balanced between the cavendish and, a light colored tobacco. I find the consistent burning also, steady flavor throughout a bowl burn time has, a satisfying, cool pleasure that, suit me well.

Casey Jones Hero's Blend has a very nice room note, no bite, and a smooth flavor. This is my go to blend. I prefer this to Casey Jones Beyond Brave.

A wonderful addition if one mixes it with other cavendish brands. In my case, with Captain Black Gold. I really like the taste of pure tobacco without additives as whiskey, different fruits and so on. That's why 32 years ago I found out that Borkum Riff Black Cavendish corresponds to my needs. Dr. V. I tried Casey's Beyond Brave and enjoyed it, so decided to try Hero's Blend. While Beyond Brave is a good smoke, Hero's Blend has quickly become my go-to tobacco...but then, I have a pretty simple palate. This is a great smoke! It burns consistently clean and smooth, pleasant, with no bite. This fits perfectly around a campfire. Although no one will accuse you smoking a vanilla shake, it has a fine aroma. And, you don't have to take out a second mortgage to afford it. Recommend that folks give it a try.

Being a huge fan of Casey Jones' "Last Ride", I figured that I would give this blend a try! I was not disappointed! Smokes a bit more mellow, so it's great for a beginner like me! Furthermore, it has a bit of sweeter taste and aroma, so when I get a sweet tooth craving, "Hero's Blend" hits the spot! Like "Last Ride", "Hero's Blend" will have a permanent rotation in my cellar! Now to pick up that 12oz. can!

Similar to Capt. Black gold less bite

I remember the time in early 90s when suddenly my favorite Borkum Riff Black Cavendish disappeared at all. I was in despair and with great difficulties found a pair of packs in Prague (existed at that time such a country as Czechoslovakia). Thank God, finally it reappeared again. For me it's important as an additive to the Captain Black Gold, and for smoking it separately is too strong. Among other Borkum Riffs it's the only one made by "Cavendish cut" which I consider to be the most pleasant for smoking. I wish this product will return to it's first primary look as it came to the market: Black was in a black nice pouch and recognizable at once!

This and "Last Ride" have become my favorite!

My brother ordered the Hero's blend about a year ago, best stuff I've had yet, just the smell of the opened bag was out of this world. the last pouch i got was not quite as moist, but not dry either, Just doesn't smell or seem as good as my brother 's pouch. But I would order it again.

I purchased this never having smoked any of the Casey Jones tobaccos. I wasn't sure what to expect but, I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. I've been smoking it in one of my cobs, and it's worked out quite well. I have other favorites which I definitely like better but, make no mistake, this stuff was still a very enjoyable smoke. I'm not sure if it will become one of my regular puffs, but I'd definitely consider buying it again if and when I feel the need to mix things up or simply need a change of pace.

Good taste profile and good aromatics

I bought a 1.5 oz. pack in connection with a promotion by P&C when I submitted my order before this one. I liked it so much I ordered 2 more pkgs. It’s still a decent smoke, but I don’t like it as much as I did initially...not sure what’s different in my reaction, but I’m not as happy as I was the first time.

I use this tobacco to mix with other pipe tobacco, to roll cigarettes. This is the THIRD time I have suggested that cigarette rolling tobacco be included in your lineup of various tobacco. Please ask the Tobacco King to include these tobaccos as well. How about an answer from the CEO .

Very solid mild smoke, with a vanilla aroma and naturally mild sweetness. To be honest this is one of the few blends that left me wanting another bowl after bowl.

This one is moving to be one of my favorite. It is mild to smoke and has a great room note. This is first time I tried this brand and will reorder it again! If you had a list of tobaccos for new pipe smokers this one would have to be on it.

Not really a true cavendish. Not really black. Looks like some Virginia, something brown, no black! Not that it's bad, but it smokes a bit harsh. Closer to smokers pride than, say, Lane Ltd BCA. Worth a try but I wouldn't buy it bulk!

A perfect fall blend that would go well with hot apple cider. As you sip your pipe, the tastes of cinnamon and prune come through. It reminds me of the traditional Christmas puddings served in Ireland.

I've used the Borkum Riff Bl. Cavendish with the Original blend as my own blend for years. It's a great combination

This tobacco has been a favorite for a long time......by itself, or as a blend mix. My favorite blend is mixing it with Sir Walter Raliegh Aromatic....pleasant to the taste, very little bite, and non-smokers often comment on how pleasing the aroma of the smoke ls to them........try it..........

I have tried over 20 different types of tobacco in my pipes. Hated this mixture, Better off smoking something else, anything but this. Save your money and buy something better like Lane BCA if you like Black Cavendish.

Got this for my son and he lives in Ireland and is used to many Petersen's blends. He loved it and was very pleased with this gift!

I prefer the Amphora as it has a better flavor. Borkum is too dry and burns hotter and faster.

Not sure what went wrong as my opinion of this does not agree with many others: I found Borkum Riff BC to have a lot of tongue bite, seemed to burn pretty hot if you keep puffing, but would not burn well at all if you take your time with it. I bought this as part of "The Black Knight" duel, and found the Captain Black Dark to be way better than the Borkum Riff.

I really enjoy Borkum blends, they always deliver a satisfying smoke for me and I'm able to get the base tobacco taste despite the flavoring. This one was no exception. I did notice that the pouch made no mention of Dark Fired Kentucky and the label looks slightly different. Wonder if its been tweaked. Tho I still prefer the Whiskey blend the most, the Black Cavendish was similar enough to hit the spot. It tended to burn hot and was definitely better the more it dried. I suggest leaving the opened pouch sitting around for a week or two for maximum results. The taste varied between raisin/plum to dry red wine. A sipping smoke that did not burn me but I am used to Borkum and have learned how to draw it without bite. I recommend trying it and would not discount this blend just because it comes in a pouch. Better than a lot of tinned tobaccos I've tried.

This was a blend I thought I would enjoy, and I did, until something went off the rails. I liked the cut, the aroma in the pouch was very nice, it smoked cool and produced nice thick smoke. Everything was fine until about half way through the bowl. The nice nutty plummy flavor suddenly turned to a harsh chemical taste. It was sharp and kinda sour and stung my nose. It wasn't burning hot and there was no bite but the pleasant rather mellow flavor became harsh and acrid. I thought that maybe it was a reaction with my personal chemistry but my wife asked me if I was still smoking the same stuff I had been because now it really stinks. So it wasn't me. It was the tobacco. I was getting a thumbs up for aroma and it suddenly went wrong. I tried it again the next day in a different pipe with the same result. It's a shame too because from the first light to about the halfway point I thought it was enjoyable.

Ordering borkum riff is wonderful

This was my first stab at a non-cherry aromatic and was immediately spoiled. Rich vanilla and honey, reminding me of some of La Aurora's best cigars, with sweet complexity of light fruit such as a fresh pear and a touch of mango. I now have two more pouches awaiting me. It's a mainstay with me now, just as is Casey Jones Last Ride is for cherry blends.

Harsh! CB Dark is amazingly good, but BR BC is pretty rough. I like to let the smoke linger in my nostrils and sinuses to get a great sense of the flavor and aroma, but this one just won't let me. It burns well, but there are other tobaccos to try before going back to it.

Worth more than its price. Complex, with woodsy notes that complement its vanilla top, floral, and with virtually no bite. It’s a great aromatic experience, well-balanced and immensely relaxing.

With the weather at below 50 degrees, the room note is important and this blend's is good. The cloud of smoke rises as a heron does from the reeds and is dense as clouds in the spring morning sky. It has the kiss of a young Irish lass instead of the bite of a viper. The nicotine hit is that of a babe in arms. A tribute to a hero locomotive engineer dedicated to his work.

With the below 50 degree weather still prevalent, the room note is very important for me to smoke in the house. The Green River Valley Cavendish saves the day when blended with Honey/Vanilla. The heavy cloud of smoke floats like a leaf in the autumn wind. No bite at all. A tickle of Vitamin N and all is right worth the world. Long live the history of Casey Jones the only RR hero I know.

Good but not great. Drugstore brand widely available. Lane 1q is better but costs more. Try Capt Black or super value black cavendish. Nobody has matched Flying Dutchman. Nobody.

Wow, this stuff is awesome. Smokes like a unique flavorful dream from top to bottom of the bowl. Highly recommended from this seasoned Pipester.

Mild enough with excellent flavor- a good all-dayer, a fine outside tabak. Dependable, not as rich as I'd hoped, but you won't be disappointed if you're a Cavendish man.

It has a nice smooth flavor to it along with a sweet aroma. However, I found it hard to keep lit. Tried several different pipes with the same result. Don't know if it was me but I haven't had this problem with other brands.

I thought this was good, different from other cavendishes. It is a tastey change.

The hubby really enjoyed this blend gives it 4 stars.He said the vanilla was not overpowering and the honey added just enough flavor making this blend a winner! many vanilla blends he has tried end up in his jar of all vanilla tobacco because he finds them boring but this one he said will be ordered again and not end up in the "JAR"!

I tried both the Hero's Blend and Last Ride and they're both good. I like Hero's Blend the best of the two. It burns good and has no harshness even when it's smoked a little hot. I don't see any way to make this stuff harsh. It has a sweet Vanilla taste that is somewhat like butterscotch. A nice mild all day smoke with great flavor. I'm going to order the 12 OZ tin and ad this to my rotation. Oh the room note is great too. Great stuff!

good tobacco just not a all day smoke

Bought this blend because it was suppose to be an aromatic and mild blend. Packed a new pipe with this tobacco and lit up. Smoking this blend was difficult because it would not stay lit very long and would not burn correctly. When I cleaned out my pipe, seems like I wasted about half a bowl each time. I put aside the new pipe and tried a couple of older pipes. Same experience so I know it is not my pipes. Sadly, I bought a pouch and a 12-oz can. Not sure when I will open the can as I was very disappointed with this blend. I will be smoking Dunhill London Mixture again which is a different flavor profile but has always burned consistent and is never a disappointment.

I really liked the vanilla/honey flavor. It is a great aromatic and super cheap. You are missing out if you don't at least buy a pouch and give it a try. Ready to smoke right out of the pouch, not to wet or dry. Burns nice and cool. Room note is one of the better vanillas I have tried, and people like the smell.

I tried Hero's blend because it sounded like something I would enjoy.When I got it the smell was great.Well i'll give the aroma 4 stars but the flavor doesn't match.I expected a more smooth flavor but what i got was bite.The room note is wonderful.Unfortunately this one isn't going on my favorites list.

Looking for a substitute for north sea, tried both Casey Jones Hero & Last Ride. Liked them both, mixed them together 50/50 like that too. Found my substitute. Great Smoke.

This is a nice smoking pipe tobacco, very smooth taste and a pleasant aroma.

Not really sure what it is about this blend, but I'm unable to finish an entire bowl... and I like vanilla aromatics. I tried about 5X now, and always dump it about 1/2 through. Something odd about this one for me. It's incredibly light. Maybe the lightest tobacco I've smoked (and I started smoking a pipe in 1987). Overly steamy. Not really sure why anyone would smoke this over 1Q. But I understand everyone's taste buds/PH are different, and this could be a home-run for someone. For me personally, it was remarkably banal.

It's a decent smoke Most probably would not smoke again

This isn't what I would call a bad pipe tobacco, but I just didn't feel that it had much to offer. I picked this up along with the Casey Jones last ride. Last ride Lives up to the name. This, however, doesn't have much flavor to offer other than just...... smoke. Vaguely caramel, mild, but that comes along with a fairly sharp bite, and maybe it's just me, but I also struggled to keep it lit. Overall, it is OK, but it doesn't do much for me. Not bad, not great.

I purchased a pouch of each Casey Jones, the Hero's Blend and Last Ride. Last Ride was a winner from start to finish. I've almost finished the pouch and hadn't tried this one yet, so I reluctantly put my Last Ride aside and opened the Hero's Blend. Smelled good in the pouch and lit it up one evening while watering my garden. Everything went downhill from there. Not only are my plants suffering from the cold summer nights we're having, my pipe was no longer my friend. This one smoked harsh and distasteful. Couldn't find any vanilla or butterscotch in either the taste or room note, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I finally gave up on it and knocked out the un-smoked portion and called it a night. I'll put this in my wine cellar for 6 months and come back to it. If it seems to have improved by then, I'll certainly leave another review. Until then, this one will not see the light of day for a while. If trying a new tobacco, go with Last Ride. That is a wonderful blend and enjoyable start to finish. Room note is so good I find myself following the smoke around just to smell it. Room note on this one brings back memories of tax audits and transmission problems. Not desirable.

Enjoyed the Borkum Riff Black Cavendishand will buy it again.

They were pretty dry. I mixed them with vanilla cavendish to compensate for the dryness. Other than that: they were good but not great.

I recently purchased this Black Cavendish for my tobacco rotation, and I have,to say that I love the smooth sweet flavor. This one is a keeper!

My first order of a pipe and some tobacco samples can on time. The quality of the pipe met my expectations--it was excellent.
