Viking Tor Sandblast

One issue I have with reverse calabashes is why they gave them that name. Reverse calabashes function exactly the same as a gourd calabash - smoke leaves the tobacco chamber, enters a secondary chamber where it cools the smoke and allows moisture to be deposited. But enough with the rant. Let me introduce you to Viking Tor Sandblast, the first reverse calabashes ever for this brand.

These briars are short, but they smoke like a larger pipe in terms of heat because of the second chamber., and the styling has a Danish influence. They feature a nicely detailed sandblasting finished in an ebony tone. Best of all, I'm willing to bet that you've never seen a pipe like this at such an amazing price.

I like this pipe. I’d
I like this pipe. I’d never smoked a Viking, but on sale, I figured it couldn’t possibly be awful; worst case it’d move into my truck and become a workhorse, ant the thick, muscular shape looked like it’d be comfortable in my hand. It smokes like a dream with a nice open draw and a thick bowl to absorb the heat and keep things cool. It’s stocky, muscular, surprisingly easy to clench, and looks really cool. Best pipe ever? No. Favorite pipe? Nope. Object of desire envy for your pipe smoking buddies? Maybe, but who cares? It’s solid, reliable and great to smoke.

Love/Hate
I loved the look, the feel, the smokability of this pipe but the stem was poorly constructed and fell out as I was smoking the pipe. I had to exchange it for a Stanwell.

Great look, great smoke !
Materials used are very good ! The look is why i bought two of them ! However, the fitting between the pipe stem and bowl is a design flaw that i had to correct ! More of the stem into the bowl ! FORTUNATLY , there was enough stem to do that ! And i'm good with that !! So now i'm happy, and just smoking away !

Great smoke - loose stem was a downside
Smokes well, but stem is a loose fit. I have to be careful when handling.

Favorite Pipe
I enjoyed how smooth the tor smoked and continued to burn the full bowl. Really enjoyed and is within my top 3 of my collection.

Almost, not quite perfect
Excellent pipe. It feels good and solid in the hand, looks good (my wife says it's a nose warmer, but I don't mind), smokes cool and dry. I would give it 5 stars except the stem is slightly misaligned, and almost impossible to remove unless the pipe is warm. And it's necessary to remove the stem after every smoke to clean the air chamber.

This is grate
This was my first 'real' pipe. I ruined the first one I bought taking it apart hot. The stem just falls off of it now, I liked it so much though I ordered another one. With that lesson learned the second one has been grate. The bowl dose get your, the smoke stays cool though. It is definitely a better home than travel pipe because of the bowl size. I really like it though.

My "If I Only Had One" Pick
I've been using this pipe for 6 months now. It has quickly become my favorite pipe to smoke. It's rugged, small, cool to smoke, fits well in my hand, and provides the perfect amount of smoke time, and looks nice to boot! Even with a wet tobacco the pipe only starts to gurgle if I smoke back to back. If I were to only have one pipe, this one would be the keeper. I only wish there were one or two more bent pipe designs to choose from. If anyone reading this is acquainted with the manufacturers, please pass along my praise.

Viking Tor Sandblast 501
It was exactly what I wanted. I wanted a small pipe to hold in the mouth while fishing and doing chores around the house. This pipe is well made and light to hold without tiring. It holds enough tobacco for at least a 30 minute smoke.

Everything smokes and tastes better in the Viking 502
Being new to pipes you don't recognize the differences in one pipe from another with exception of weight and feel until you start to move up into better pipes. Full disclosure this is the most expensive pipe I own so I would expect it to be the best one I have but I don't know that there is enough emphasis on how better pipes smoke better, way better. Weight and bite comfort are by far superior to any of the other 7 pipes I have in my collection of mostly estate finds. But the real stand out is the draw from start to finish with little to no packing, slight tamping on first light and even the more wet tobaccos stay lit and smooth. Now that I have it mostly broken in there is little moisture and no bite. This pipe has made it to my go to for re-smoking tobaccos I don't really care for just to make sure it is the blend and not the pipe. Everything smokes and tastes better in the Viking 502.

Great Pipe
Great price for this pipe, i was surprised how thick the briar is, nice cool smoke. Not to heavy in my mouth and i can smoke it when riding horseback down the trails.

Sturdy Workhorse
Tis is a great little pipe — not short enough to be a nose warmer but a nice feeling, well-balanced, shorter pipe. I like bent pipes but I now have 3 Viking Tors of a straight design. The bowl is large enough to give a longer smoke and the massive amount of wood assures a cool smoke. The "calabash" (famous in the Peterson) system almost guarantees a dry smoke and adds to the coolness of the smoke. The stoutness of design is great for a person with a beard and gives the smoker a rugged look. I'm impressed with the pipe — an amazing value at a lower price.

A neat little pipe
This is a nice little pipe, fits easily into my purse or a belt bag with all my smoking essentials for a jaunt to the park or wherever. Draws nicely, too. A great buy for the price! Thank you P & C for a great deal!
