I like Latakia. This has Latakia. I usually add Latakia to other mixes. This Mixture 965 is a nicely proportioned mix of Virginias, exotic Turkish Orientals, Cyprian Latakia and Cavendish. I've bought it more than once. I like it. I've been enjoying pipe smoking since 1967. It's nice to find something new once in a while.

This is my daily morning smoke.

I blend the Orlik with Mix965+Red VA. About 2:1. The Orlik is fantastic alone too, but I like the smokey notes of the Mix965, and the Red VA adds a little spiciness. I've tried a lot of tobaccos from P&G and finally settled on these. The service from P&G has always been excellent. I'm very happy with the website too. And I pay way less than I would at any local tobacco supplier.

I buy this by the pound and cellar it for a few months. This is my everyday smoke at work.

Match 965 is one of my all time favorites. I purchase this blend on a regular bases. It's moisture content is just right, not too wet, not too dry. Room note is very pleasant. I am very fond of the taste and get complements on the aroma.
5 out of 5
I like the original 965 a whole lot. It's been a few years since I've had it but as far as I can tell, this is at least close enough for the price. I could swear there's a bit more Cavendish than the original, but my palette isn't refined enough to care. Either way, I'll happily adjust to this.
I'm a tightwad and if I'm planning to drop money on a pound of a tobacco, it meets my standards. An excellent facsimile of the original.

The flavor is good because t not as good as the real thing It has a room note of burnt plastic my wife is not a fan of. It does smoke well

Love this blend. Absolutely no bite at all and has all the flavors I dig in an English blend. If you like Peterson Mixture 965 then try this. To be honest, there are times I grab this over the Peterson Mixture 965. It’s that good.

Mellow. Lots of flavor. I’m hooked on that Latakia!

Excellent blend. I thought I was smoking one of my Dunhill favorites.

I'm still fairly new to piping, but this blend was one of my first purchases and has set the bar by which I judge all other English blends.
Interestingly, once I was out I got the "Original Recipe" Peterson 965, and by my palate, the Match 20 is noticeably BETTER in all aspects of a fine pipe smoking experience. I'm not sorry I bought the "original", but when it's gone I'll certainly go back to Match 20.

This is the ONE pipe tobacco that I'm Almost Always stocked up on. Bar none my Favorite. Sutliff version is VERY Close to the Same Flavors & Quality as the Original Dunhill. I order this one in Pounds . Thanks P&C

I typically like aromatics but for some reason I wanted to try this blend. Maybe to expand my pallet I do not know. What I do know is I am glad I did. This is a blend that I really enjoy taking my time. Though I want to puff more I refrain as I usually enjoy this blend while reading. It holds a place in my top 7 of my rotation. I have a 5 ounce jar of this blend that was sealed up about 9 years ago. I will spoil myself a pull from that jar on occasion. Thank you P&C for offering such fine blends.

I'm a Big Fan of Variety when it comes to my smoking tobacco; However there is one that I make sure I'm Never out of & that's the Sutliff Match of Dunhill #20,or #965. When supply of the discontinued original ran out, I was looking for a replacement. While not Exactly the same,it's So Very Close to the Original,it's almost impossible to tell which is which & that's Wonderful ! P&C is my Main Source of this & others that I use. Thanks P&C !

I smoke English types of pipe tobacco and you match 20 is very close to the original Dunhill 965.

It wasn't a hot smoking tobacco, burned clean - no residue left in pipe after smoking, and I will re-order this mixture again in the future. Thanks for assisting me in choosing this type of tobacco.-----Satisfied Customer...

Wow! This blend is far beyond my expectations.
I've always liked the "English" type blends but all too many were overpowering.
Match 965 hit the mark. A very rich taste, fine aroma, and a subtle "English" blend overtone.
I'm hooked and will be making bulk purchases.

I like this in small doses (20%) mixed with my favorite VA blends, like Orlik Gold and Triple Play. I don't like it much on its own.
5 out of 5
Will probably be my 3rd or 4th smoke after starting w/ Sunrise and/or Carter Hall. I will no doubt be regular w/ this outstanding mixture as there is no bite about it.
4 out of 5
Good, cool, slow burning with a good volume of smoke. I can't say how close it is to the old Dunhill blend because it has been so long since I smoked that, but it's pretty good on its own, and I'll probably be getting more when I finish what I have.
4 out of 5
Good match to Dunhill 965, but not quite as good as the original. Would be willing to pay more for the real thing, but am not dissatisfied with the match.

Smokes with just the slightest bite. Just right as far as I'm concerned! Very clean taste, great tobacco.

I usually smoke aromatic blends; however, I also like to have a English blend for those occasions when I like to set back fill my Corncob with a non-aromatic. This medium strong fits the bill.

Similar tobaccos at a local pipe shop are about 90% more. I always try to support local merchants first but their markup is ridiculous. Delivery time on this order was much better. The previous order was almost three weeks.

It’s smoky ,sweet and nutty must try.

One of my favorite Balkan/English blends. Latakia is very pleasant and forward of the orientals. My two favorite Balkan/English blends is Match Mixture 965 and Balkan Sasieni.

He loves it! When Dunhill stopped making his favorites, he was so happy to find this. He says he can't tell a difference at all!

I have been a fan of aromatics for a long time and finally decided to try another English blend. On my first bowl I was hooked. I really like the flavor that comes through and it smokes very evenly with no bite. I only ordered 2 ounces to try it...going to have to get some more on my next order!

I'd been a Dunhill My Mixture 965 smoker for most of my adult life (I'm 59 years old), and I was very unhappy (to say the least) when Dunhill stopped producing pipe tobacco. I took a chance, based on the recommendations from several friends, and ordered 16oz's of the Match version. I figured that I really didn't have anything to lose, that even if it didn't quite hit the mark, I was running low on daily use tobacco and needed something to fill the jars with. Well.... I have to say that I am pleasently surprised by this mixture, and it far exceeded my expectations. Memory (my memory) is a funny thing, and it's very difficult to tell if one tobacco is an exact match to another, by memory alone, and it would be impossible to compair fresh samples of each at this point. However, this tobacco certainly does take me on a walk down memory lane, and it is quite familiar! I think that I remember the Dunhill My Mixture 965 having a bit more latakia, but that's way OK with me. I've grown to like a little bit less latakia in my tobacco anyway. The way the sweetness of the Virginia and Orientals are allowed to come forward in this blend, provide a very pleasant, rich and creamy smoke, with no bite. It burns cleanly and evenly, with very little (to none) moisture build up in the pipe (ie no gurgling). This is odd, because the tobacco feels a bit more moist than I remember the Dunhill 965 being. It's also got a fairly high level of nicotine like the original. This is a remarkable blend, well worth stocking up on for aging, I'm going to order a couple more pounds, and put it into pint size mason jars to see what happens!

This was among the first pipe tobaccos I ever smoked, and it's still one I go back to.

A great smoke. Dry and doesn't bite.

This is a top notch blend! It has a flavorful taste with just the right amount of Latakia, and a sweet, pleasant smell; It's a very enjoyable smoke that has become my go to blend. I Highly recommend it!

Just right for my taste, love the touch of latkia.

I would like it to have a little more latakia

Dunhill 965 smokes well by itself or can be mixed with some Virginia to be a bit less strong, can mix with 1Q for an English aromatic. A classic blend

Love it. Been smoking it for a long time and had to switch
after Dunhill quit selling it.
Worked out great!

A good old-fashioned American tobacco

This is not a bad tobacco but just a little mild for me. Probably won't buy again but only because of personal taste as the tobacco is okay.

Good notes and balance for a medium English blend.

Incredible blend! My first taste of an English style, and was blown away with the flavor, depth and coolness. Will definitely be coming back to this again. I think I've found my goto blend.

This is my first "real tobacco" so ??? I must say it is wonderful. I cant pick out notes like the "pros" do but it is SMOOTH. Delicious taste, a little moist but other wise awsome. I think it would be great cellard for a few !!!!

very good tobacco, just a bit too moist.

Four stars and not five stars because I like less aromatics and flavorings than are commonly available these days.

Match My Mixture 965.... If you are looking for a great example of an English blend, then this is the one. There is nothing else I can say.

I can't tell a difference in tobacco. It meets all my expectations. Love the stuff. My wife keeps saying I lit a kerosene heater
4 out of 5
This is a decent blend on its own but has a bit much latikia for my personal taste however it burns very well with no bite. I’d definitely buy again (I mixed 50/50 with Flying Dutchman and it makes it more to my liking)

MATCH My Mixture 965 is a good tobacco and well priced. I can smoke it all day - has no bite and is rlatively cool. However, to my taste memory, Peter Stokkebye 52 Proper English is closer to the original 965 in that it has both the punch and aroma.

I'm new to pipe smoking, about 1 month as of 13 Jan 2018. I've missed out on the real "My Mixture 965". I randomly ordered this and love it. Not sure of the components, but awesome go to blend. I'm ordering 3 oz any time I order.
4 out of 5
Not sure how it compares to previous blend of 965 nut its still good. Great all day!
4 out of 5
This is a very close match, but is missing something. BUT, I still like it, and so far this is my favorite english/scottish/balkan blend. My favorite is smoking it in a MM General Corn Cob for a great 1 1/2 hour enjoyable smoke.

Love this stuff. My new go-to tobacco.

This is a good Balkan style mixture which smokes well with only white ash left at the end. The tastes are quite good and last through the smoking time.
4 out of 5
Y'know, I'm not sure what folks are after. It tastes good. It is good.

I like Dunhill more, but this is close to it, although, not as strong. They did a pretty good job on it. Maybe if you cellared it for a while? I will buy again.

I am still refining my palate so I by no means feel qualified to review lol.
My first English was John Bull in a sampler pack, I was hooked instantly. Then I tried PS luxury, it was very good too. Match fits the same bill. It was strong but not make you sweat and contemplate upchucking strong. It had spice and sweet zest yet mellow at the same time it ticks all the boxes my brain has set in regards to taste and smell yet I feel it’s missing some zest. Nonetheless it is good! I never had the fortune to try Dunhill so as I cannot compare but if your looking for a good English try this I dare!! Please excuse my grammar I’m just a good Old country boy whom enjoys my pipes!!

Blend of tobacco is good, but the ribbon cut changes pack, burn and overalll taste. Any chance of a Riff or fine cut on this blend?
5 out of 5
Tastes and smokes like Dunhill’s tinned tobacco. Very pleased!
5 out of 5
965 blend has become my favorite blend now of latakia loose blends. The flavor is full and rich, and it lights and burns cool and easily. So I have stocked up on Match my mixture 965. It is so good!
5 out of 5
I try other tobaccos but I always come back to mm965 because it's just raised the bar so high in my mind
4 out of 5
I have enjoyed the blend I just bought, will buy more.

The Match 965, although not an aromatic, arrived with a very noticeable top dressing. It was not simply over humidified! As such, it was virtually non-combustible and when I could get it lit, it smoked very hot. In an attempt to salvage 1/2 lb., I spread it out on a cookie sheet and put it in the oven at 225 degrees until it felt dry. After removing it, I misted it with distilled water and packed it tightly into a jar. Five days later, I had a very near clone to Sutliff Balkan II.

In its own right, I would call this Match blend an English aromatic. It is really no match for the real Dunhill My Mixture 965.
The Cavendish in the Match is very forward, and will appeal to an aromatic smoker who wants to dip into an English style blend with some Latakia.
I just did a side by side comparison of the two blends, and I find the Match version to be lacking the nuance and complexity of the Dunhill 965. The tangy flavor that you get in the Dunhill is absent, the Latakia comes and goes, and the subtle sweetness of the Dunhill is missing. It is not nearly as balanced and smooth as the Dunhill.
Give this one a pass unless you are new to English blends and just want to dip your bowl into some Latakia.

I've gone through about a pound and a half of this blend. I've burned it in a variety of briars: Dunhill, Charatan, Barling, Castello, Ashton's, Caminetto, Peterson's System, even Kaywoodie and Custom Built. I've also used it in a few meershaum pipes. Nice cake not particularly wet nice gray-white ash.
It is a pretty good blend over all, and for the price I rate it 4 out of 5 stars. It is really not anything like any iteration of the Dunhill 965's that I've smoked over the years (since 1967).
The cut is really broad and hence relatively slow burning. The Latakia is well placed and you don't have to burn it hot to get really nice complex flavor from it. Even leaving it sit over night I can still enjoy a rich flavor without any bitterness.
I also been smoking Sutliff's Nightcap match which is a little closer to the Dunhill blends under that name over the years.
I could go on about the blend but to cut to the chase, It doesn't really substitute for Dunhill 965. For a better match, as I said, maybe try the NightCap instead.

Flavor was good but there was a bit more 'bite' than I expected.
4 out of 5
Good taste and aroma. Burns a bit fast.
5 out of 5
Excellent cool dry flavorful smoke. A great blend of British and Balkan flavors .

This is your best Match yet. Longer ribbons and more flavor. A little more Latakia and it would be perfect. Its actually better than my last order of original 965.

Now I'm still rather new to pipe smoking and I have yet to get a hold of the original. But with that said, to me this is what I think of when I think pipe tobacco.

Great smoke, I like it. I catch myself reaching for it anytime rather than my usual daily smokes.

Product just as described. Excellent company to deal with.

This was the first English blend that I fell in love with. Never smoked the Dunhill, so won't compare them. This blend has a complexity that I never expected in such an economical tobacco. The taste lingers and develops in my mouth after each puff. It's not something I'd keep in my mouth all day; not because it't not good enough, but because I like to smoke it when I can devote my full attention to the smoke. It's like listening to a fine piece of music. It's not overpowering like some English blends but not a lightweight either. I'd call it a 'sophisticated' taste, but I don't smoke it inside.

A nice starter English. Good stuff.

As soon as I opened the bag I could tell this was going to be a good smoking experience . It had that same aroma I remember from the when I smoked actual Dunhill.
5 out of 5
Found to be very enjoyable smoke, will definitely fill the bill since the original is supposed to be going away
3 out of 5
Not my favorite. I loved the MATCH Nightcap. But i probably wont order this while that's available.
4 out of 5
Not quite the same as the original but I am aging it some to see if I get more enjoyment after letting it sit in jar for a while. Nice price though and if Dunhill is indeed gone, will work for subsitute
2 out of 5
The boldness isn’t there and it has bite. Not a close enough match for me to buy again.
5 out of 5
I'm enjoying a bowl of this with my morning coffee as I write this review. This is an excellent blend of tobaccos to offer a full smokey flavor with an "incense like" herbal aroma and a very nice room note. No tongue bite, not too much nicotine and an overall satisfying smoke. Great English blend,... I HIGHLY recommend this!
5 out of 5
I ordered flying dutchman but got dunhill 965 instead. It's a good tobacco; so, no complaints.
3 out of 5
OK we have match 965 and we have Dunhill 965 Mr. Alfred's personal favorite blend. The match is close but no cigar. It has a bit of a bite and is not as full as the real 965 which I have been smoking on and off for 55 years. If you're strapped for cash save a little money and buy the match. But, if you want the real McCoy get the Dunhill tobacco. I usually buy it in bulk and P & C has a pretty fair price. The Dunhill has more body to the smoke without being over powering. The Latakia is softly noted in the smoke and is no problem.

The 965 mano a mano between Match and Dunhill is the most fun I've had since getting back to pipes after my wandering listlessly in Camel Land. The Battle of the Blends is a beautiful concept, executed beautifully, and this particular matchup is an eye-opener. As a side note, as a result of this battle I will start cellaring, and my next P&C order will include Bengal Slices.
Both of these Blends are great, so there are no real losers here, but the Match emerges victorious because of the x-factor, despite the excellence of both 965's.
IMO a good English tobacco should be smoky, oaky, and dry, reminiscent of a good whiskey (scotch, not bourbon, my American friends), but the Match also provided a faint teasing floral note - almost incense - that brought back my first experiences with English nearly twenty years ago, and a blend for which I willingly traveled two hours, uphill, barefoot.
The differences between the two 965 contenders are many. Dunhill looks nearly like a shag instead of the nice ribbon of the Match. The Match had optimal moisture out of the bag, while the Dunhill was a tad dry & therefore burned a little hotter initially - but that was correctable and corrected. Match edges out Dunhill in room note, too, but only barely, and this is perhaps where Dunhill disappoints, with more cigar smell than pipe.
My favorite pipe is not my most expensive pipe, nor is my favorite shirt the most costly. So while Match is slightly less expensive, that is only a small consideration in this matchup. I will pay more for quality, but my loyalty is to my taste, not to brand names. I am proud to call both of these blends excellent, but I'm much more likely to buy much much more of the Match.
5 out of 5
A little more milder than Dunhill, but its good. Especially with a little pinch of Burley added to the bowl full.
5 out of 5
This site has a bigger selection than the tobacco shops in town. I was also able to find the right filters for my pipe, which saves me from rolling my own filters.
4 out of 5
I received my order very quickly and was very happy with both types. The Match is better price and seemes a little sweeter but I was surpised that the Dunhill comes in 2 ziplock baggies while the Match only needed 1. Once I placed both in same size jars, the Dunhill still fills jar more with same 3 0z. Not sure if this means the Match is denser but I will probably still purchase more of Match due to cost and flavor over the original.

I usually smoke a pipefull of this every evening after supper. Burns cool but pipe gets alittle warm if smoked too fast. I ormally smoke aros but b oming an english latakia lover. Very relaxing blend.
4 out of 5
This is a pretty good blend that I reorder occasionally. There are other Latakia blends I prefer but this is good straight up tobacco. Creamy and slight sweet it will satisfy the crave for the smoky stuff.
5 out of 5
This is an excellent match to My Mixture 965. Same smoky smell and taste. The moisture content was very nice. I put in some old saved Dunhill tins and almost forget it isn't the real thing.
3 out of 5
On this last batch, I'd describe it as corse and gnarly. Taste and aroma is on target, but the 'riff' cut is a bit heavier than normal, and there is an abnormal amount of stem and stalk embedded with the leaf. Having ordered, smoked and enjoying this blend for years, I'd presume this last batch to be an anamoly.
5 out of 5
Tastes great, smells good bites a little, will buy again
4 out of 5
The mix of this blend has a bit more of a bite than I like in my pipe. It's OK, but not as mild as I would like. It is well worth 1 oz. to see if you like it. Give it a try, it may be for you.
5 out of 5
An excellent and reasonably priced Dunhill match. Smooth and satisfying. Smokes perfectly in my Dunhill pipes!

Really enjoy this tobacco. Great smoke, room note, and the taste is nice too. Doesn't smoke hot, and easy on the tongue. Definitely worth a try, you won't be disappointed.
