Decatur Pipe Lighter

Love this Lighter and so far very rugged.

Great lighter! Love the "antique-like" case. Looks like it was carried in a pocket of coins...very attractive and distinctive. Easy to fill and the adjustable flame gives wide range for lighting your favorite pipe! What's NOT to like? P&C is always available to satisfy their customers and help us all enjoy this wonderful, time-tested hobby. Not happy? Contact P&C for resolution...don't just gripe and complain...sheesh!

It took me a bit to get used to using the lighter. I messaged P&C customer service and they were able to help me figure it out. Since then it’s been a good lighter. The real hero here, though, is the excellent customer service P&C has!

This is a great little lighter—Compact, easy to fill, and very reliable . A great value for the money spent. A great gift for the pipe smoker on your shopping list!

i find it very slippery, my 96 year ole hands drop it often

It works like it suppose to so far. Hopefully it lasts awhile.

Well I got this with a combo deal, I think it’s great. May take a few clicks to get a flame, I learned a technique, press half way wait a second and spark it. Really doesn’t do well in a breeze. I use my Zippo outdoors.

Once it lights its a good lighter. Have to strike sometimes 8 to 10 times to get it to light. And the gas chamber is quite small.

This lighter works quite well for lighting a pipe. However, NOT in any sort of breeze.

...the insert does fit well in a genuine Zippo Case. As previously stated, the Decatur case and hinge are a bit flimsy. I love my Zippo Pipe lighters but admittedly, naphtha flamed puffing can be a bit harsh. I like the butane of the Decatur so, why not marry the two? The fit of the insert into the Zippo case is quite snug but didn't need any modification and does ease with time. The insert has a reasonably sized clear fill chamber and fills easily to the top. The lighting consistency is constant. That is, it lights on the third click most every time. It would be nice if it lit on every click but when it comes to electronic (piezo type) lighters, this does not seem to be in their nature. I've found that [for ever reason, perhaps heating/cooling] the igniter needs to be realigned with the the fuel supply even though it is protected by the chimney. In summary, I don't remember how I got this lighter but I do know that I haven't needed a lighter is quite some time so, I must have got a deal on it. That said, all in all it's not a bad lighter when fitted with a Zippo skin. I've used it for a few months now and it's become my goto. I can't comment on msrp/value other than it was a good value for me. :)

Pipe lighters are tough, can’t use cigar lighters hate to use matches, too much work? Tried lots over the years, always had problems adjusting flame and never seemed to last? Z-PluZ seems great, flame easy to adjust lets see how long it lasts????? So far so good!

Disappointed. When it works, it works. This lighter does not fire consistently. It wastes more fuel than it burns during the lighting process. Stick with a Bic.

This lighter is made in China and it really looks like it. The lighter is ugly and very cheaply made. The only good thing I can say about it is that it does light. Don’t waste your money.

Easy to use as a replacement and quite effective. The gas capacity is limited.

Nice lighter, but it didn't light my pipe. No instructions included.

My original Decatur lighter did not work very good. I would have to click it sometimes 15 times to light. I took a chance and bought another insert and the new one has worked like a charm.

This is the second Decatur Pipe Lighter I own. I haven’t used the second one yet but if it is as reliable as the first one I won’t have any complaints.

The pipe lighters are great they light my tobacco right away even in the wind, I really like these lighters they work better then the standard lighters that are bought. I really enjoy them Thank You very much I really appreciate them.

I found the lighter to be very beneficial to me as I was using a standard Zippo lighter to light my pipes. This lighter is designed for pipe lighting and works perfectly.

I was expecting junk ! instead I got A great lighter, like the adjustable flame and the large amount of fuel it holds, Thank you P&C!!!!!!

was not to happy with this item, the lid is loose and the inside of lighter is rusty, but i guess for free with my order i should not complane

I've only ordered from P&C once being that I'm new to the world of pipes but already I've had a situation that was handled with great customer service. I ordered a small amount of items ( mostly tobacco ) and a few other things. one items I was not happy with and they contacted me right away to make things good on their part ( I'll leave the details out so P&C doesn't get scammed ) I'll make them my "go to" resource knowing I can count on a good experience. good enough to give a friend

It took awhile to get used to handling it and filling it with fluid, but it works well.

I like the "RF" finish on the case, but the interior is roughly finished, making it difficult to remove the insert. The soft-flame butane insert works beautifully. I happened to have another Zippo-style case laying around, so I swapped the inserts. The Decatur insert fits great in the other case, and the standard insert fits great in the Decatur case. I got the lighter for free (as part of a promotion), and I am pleased with the performance. I actually prefer this lighter to my standard Zippo pipe lighter.

the lighter is nice, a good size, and works well for the price.

Not what I thought it was going to be thought it would be a butane torch light flame for my father's pipes so was not pleased but different lighters for him instead

Lighter needed a little work, pipe is very nice, Dutch quality.

I had the same experience as the reviewer Jeff S. The inside of the case came corroded/rusted and the plastic face of the insert was scratched pretty badly. Although not pretty, it is functional and performs well.

Lighter doesn't come apart easily to fill. Wouldn't waste my money on this one.

The lighter portion works great. However, the case I received was rusted on the inside which scratched the plastic on the insert. The case is not usable as is. I will try to clean it up, but am glad I had another case/body to use.

Got one of these with the Decatur pipe cleaning kit. Had trouble getting the insert out, but once I did, I forced the metal open a bit, and it inserts fine now.

the lighter works as advertised. The first one I received was rather rough in terms of the way the plastic reservoir had been sanded at the factory and some rust on the inside of the case. P & C sent me a replacement that was somewhat better and told me to keep ‘em both. So I’m more impressed with Pipes and Cigars service than with the lighter itself. A Good deal!

Love this lighter. Lights my pipes well, holds plenty of butane and is just the right size to keep in my pocket

A waste of 20 bucks. The spark is to weak to ignite the butane. Junk.

Very pleased with this butane pipe lighter in zippo style, really surprised that zippo did not come up with something like this long ago, got one of their butane lighters which was only suitable for cigars. this is a good pipe lighter

Overall, the lighter works very well. I like the butane fuel over lighter fluid. My only complaint is that the first lighter I was sent did not work. I phoned Pipes and Cigars and they sent a replacement immediately. Nice customer service. The second lighter worked like a champ. I use this lighter and a Zippo brand pipe lighter as well.

Matches are better, but as lighters go this is doable for convenience at times. It does its job ;)

Fast shipping and great products

To Jeffery k who said that the Decatur case was all scratched-up. It's supposed to look this way---it's an affect for looks. The lighter is marvelous and works first time every time. A must have item for the pipe smoker.

THE DECATUR I RECIEVED WAS ALMOST IMPOSIBLE TO DISASSEMBLE FOR LOADING FUEL. THE FLAME DOES NOT WORK FOR ME IN LIGHTING MY PIPE. I LOVE P&C BUT HAVE NO USE FOR THIS LIGHTER....

Zippo styling...and butane performance...what's not to like?

I love this pipe lighter. It's built like a zippo but uses butane. It has a clear fill area so you can see when it's full. It lights every time just like a zippo and the flame is adjustable. I will use no other lighter from now on. The only improvement I could wish for is if it came with a tamper.

Honestly, I like the look and feel of your website. Along with a pricing and specials, your pages are always seemingly warm and inviting and enjoyable to open and look through even if I'm not interested in buying. A certain alure with your web design, nice job.

The out side if the lighter looks like it is a hundred years old, very scratch up, the inside is full of some kind of oil, I would guess from soldering the inside, the lighter seems to work so far, I had a old zippo and put it is that,

Works great and feels comfortable

Got this for free with a build your own kit. Don't know that I would have bought it otherwise. It is a good lighter. I'm glad its butane instead of zippo fuel. Lights well and has an adjustable flame. The only draw back is if you hold it the wrong way you can burn your finger and its a little awkward. Other than that I can't complain. Mechanisms seem sound and it feels like it will last a long time. I do like that it is a clear insert so you can see when it is full.
