Cornell & Diehl Virginia Flake

Cornell & Diehl's Virginia Flake begins with ripe flue-cured tobaccos that are further matured under pressure and cut. This blend delivers the naturally sweet flavors that only Virginia tobaccos can. There's a toasty, hay-like note with a citrusy element. This is a blend meant to be sipped and savored.

Good as a Part of a RYO blend
Tried this as a RYO. It is dry. Needs to be rubbed out and blended. Initially, I tried it alone, and then as a 50-50 blend. Didn't like it much. Burned too hot, needed other darker notes. But when I used about 20% in a 20-40-40 blend, it was excellent. As others have noted, has a nice hay like taste with notes of pepper or cinnamon/clove spiciness. I usually blend with VA and Norwegian or Windsail or the like, other mostly VA blends.

So good!!
I absolutely loved this one. I mixed it with a couple other flake tobacco's I enjoy and made a wonderful blend. Its pretty light and smells almost sweet, a little peppery when smoked but not what you would normally consider peppery. Its just a touch. It has somewhat of a brown sugar aroma when smoked which my family loves. I am very impressed with many of the tobacco's from pipes and cigars. Honestly the best thing to do is look for the tobacco with 30 or more positive reviews. You can't go wrong that way unless you are extremely picky.

1 part of a blend
I have been playing around with blending my own pipe tobacco for a few years now and finally landed on one that I really like and has been received well from my pipe smoking cronies. When I went to order more ingredients to make a large batch, I discovered that the Virginia flake I had originally used was no longer available and probably would be discontinued. I was bummed. I called my good friends at Pipes and Cigars and we sorted through a lot of different tobaccos looking for another Virginia flake that would match the original profile as closely as we could and landed on the Cornell & Diehl Virginia flake. I have put the blend together, but it takes at least 3 months for it to meld together. I am anxiously awaiting the day I can pull it out and give it a whirl.

Not For Me
Very dry and difficult to pack. Burned quickly and lacked flavor. Not for me.

C&D VA Flake - my new favorite.
Very nice! It's a flake that is in like cubes or chunks that doesn't need rubbing out really. You can just stuff it in your pipe as is, maybe crinkle up the bits on the top of your bowl just to help it catch a light. Very reasonably priced. If you are looking for a good, no-nonsense VA flake in bulk to have as your go-to bargain tobacco, I highly recommend it.
